Intracluster light (ICL) is composed of the stars diffused throughout the galaxy cluster but does not bound to any galaxy. The ICL is a ubiquitous feature of galaxy clusters and occupies a significant fraction of the total stellar mass in the cluster. Therefore, the ICL components are believed to help understand the formation and evolution of the clusters. However, in the numerical study, one needs to perform the high-resolution cosmological hydrodynamic simulations, which require an expensive calculation, to trace these low-surface brightness structures (LSB). Here, we introduce the Galaxy Replacement Technique (GRT) that focuses on implementing the gravitational evolution of the diffused ICL structures without the expensive baryonic physics. The GRT reproduces the ICL structures by a multi-resolution cosmological N-body re-simulation using a full merger tree of the cluster from a low-resolution DM-only cosmological simulation and an abundance matching model. Using the GRT, we show the preliminary results about the evolution of the ICL in the on-going simulations for the various clusters.
Shocks are induced in the intracluster medium by mergers of subclusters during the hierarchical structure formation of the universe. Radio relics detected in the outskirts of galaxy clusters have been interpreted as diffuse synchrotron emission from cosmic ray electrons accelerated at such merger shocks. Using a set of cosmological hydrodynamic simulations, we study how the properties of merger-driven shocks depend on the parameters such as the mass ratio and impact parameter of mergers. In particular, we examine the distribution of the Mach number and energetics of shocks associated with synthetic radio relics in simulated merging clusters. In this poster, we will present the preliminary results and the implications.

The hydrodynamic interaction of two floating bodies in waves freely floating or connected by a rigid link is studied by using a boundary element method in the frequency-domain. The exact two-body hydrodynamic coefficients of added mass, wave damping and exciting force are calculated from the radiation-diffraction potential solution of the improved Green integral equation associated with the free surface Green function. The irregular frequencies in the conventional Green integral equation make it difficult to predict the physical resonance of the fluid in the gap between two bodies floating side by side. However, the improved Green integral equation employed in this study is free of irregular frequencies and always yields the exact solution of the multi-body radiation-diffraction potential boundary value problem. The 6 degree-of-freedom motions of two bodies freely floating side by side or connected parallel by a rigid link have been calculated for the incident wave frequencies ranging from 0.1 to 5 radians per second in head, left and right bow quartering seas. The 6-component load of the rigid link have also been presented.

Galaxies associated with massive groups/clusters are normally gas deficient in contrast to field galaxies. HI observations on such galaxies have revealed signs of violent gas stripping, the direct evidence of the environmental effect. At the same time, the notable number of passive galaxies at the cluster outskirts indicates the presence of pre-processing that makes galaxies gas-poor before entering clusters. We investigate the possible channels for the production of the gas deficient galaxies using the state-of-the-art cosmological hydrodynamic zoom-in simulations of 16 clusters (Choi&Yi). We find cluster effect and pre-processing together play an important role in producing the gas-poor galaxies and in both cases gas loss qualitatively agrees with the ram pressure stripping description. Among the currently gas-poor cluster galaxies, 34% are pre-processed before the cluster infall. They are mainly satellites that have undergone ram pressure stripping in group halos. 43% deplete quickly after arriving at cluster during their first approach to the center. Some of them are group halo satellites low in the gas at the infall compared to galaxies directly coming from the field. 24% retain gas even after their first pericentric pass mainly because they are falling into low mass clusters and/or they have a circular orbit that minimizes the ram pressure effect. This study highlights the importance of the past history of galaxies, especially in group halos, before joining the current cluster when understanding the excess of passive galaxies in clusters.
The purpose of this paper is to understand and model the slow current (~2 m/s) effects on the global response of a floating offshore platform in waves. A time-domain numerical simulation of full wave-current-body interaction by a quadratic boundary element method (QBEM) is applied to compute the hydrodynamic loads and motions of a floating body under the combined influence of waves and current. The study is performed in the context of linearized potential flow theory that is sufficient in understanding the leading-order current effect on the body motion. The numerical simulations are validated by quantitative comparisons of the hydrodynamic coefficients with the WAMIT prediction for a truncated vertical circular cylinder in the absence of current. It is found from the simulation results that the presence of current leads to a loss of symmetry in flow dynamics for a tension-leg platform (TLP) with symmetric geometry, resulting in the coupling of the heave motion with the surge and pitch motions. Moreover, the presence of current largely affects the wave excitation force and moment as well as the motion of the platform while it has a negligible influence on the added mass and damping coefficients. It is also found that the current effect is strongly correlated with the wavelength but not frequency of the wave field. The global motion of a floating body in the presence of a slow current at relatively small encounter wave frequencies can be satisfactorily approximated by the response of the body in the absence of current at the intrinsic frequency corresponding to the same wavelength as in the presence of current. This finding has a significant implication in the model test of global motions of offshore structures in ocean waves and currents.

Dynamic response analysis is conducted for a floating bridge subjected to multiple support earthquake excitation. The floating bridge used in this study is supported by discrete floating pontoons and horizontal pretension cables supported at both ends of the bridge. The bridge is modeled with finite elements and the hydrodynamic added mass and added damping due to the surrounding fluid around pontoons are obtained using boundary elements. During the analysis the concept of retardation function is utilized to consider the frequency dependency of the hydrodynamic coefficients. Multiple support excitation is introduced at both ends of the bridge and the time history response is compared to that of a simultaneous excitation. The results show that the multiple support excitation yields larger values in some responses. for example in cable tensions. than the sumultaneous excitation.

The very large vessels like VLCC and container ship have been built recently and those vessels have smaller structural strength in comparison with the other convectional skips. As a result the fatigue destruction of upper deck occurs a frequently due to the springing phenomenon at the encountering frequencies. In this study, the hydrodynamic loads are calculated by three-dimensional source distribution method with the translating and pulsating Green function. A ship is longitudinally divided into 23 sections and the added mass, damping and hydrodynamic force of each section is calculated. focusing only on the vertical motion. Stiffness matrix is calculated by the Euler beam theory. The calculation is carried out for Esso Osaka.
We present hydrodynamic simulations of gas clouds that inflowing from the disk to a few hundred parsec region of the Milky Way. Realistic Galactic structures are included in our simulations by thousands of multipole expansions that describe 6.4 million stellar particles of a self-consistent Galaxy simulation (Baba, Saitoh & Wada, in prep.). We find that a hybrid multipole expansion model with two different basis sets and a thick disk correction well reproduces the overall structures of the Milky Way. We find that the nuclear ring evolves into 240 pc at T~1500 Myr, regardless of the initial size. For most of simulation runs, gas inflow rate to the nuclear region is equilibrated as ~0.02 Msun/yr, and thus accumulated gas mass and star formation activity is stabilized as $6{\times}10^7Msun$ and ~0.02M/yr, respectively. These stabilized values are in a good agreement with estimations for the CMZ. The nuclear ring is off-centered to the Galactic center by the lopsided central mass distribution of the Galaxy model, and thus an asymmetric mass distribution is arose accordingly. The lopsidedness also leads the nuclear ring to be tilted to the Galactic plane and to precess along the Galaxy rotation. In early evolutionary stage when gas clouds start to inflow and form the nuclear ring, the z-directional oscillations of the gas clouds results in the twisted, infinity-shaped nuclear ring. Since the infinity-shaped feature is transient only for first 100 Myr, the current infinity-shape observed in the CMZ may indicate that the CMZ forms quite recently.
As a basic study for establishing a countermeasure for an oxygen deficient water mass (ODW), we investigated the variation of ODW volume according to the enforced total pollution load management in Jinhae Bay. This study estimated the inflowing pollutant loads into Jinhae Bay and predicted the reduction in ODW by using a sediment-water ecological model (SWEM). The result obtained in this study are summarized as follows: 1) The daily average pollutant loads of COD, SS, TN, TP, DIN, and DIP inflowing into Jinhae bay in 2005 were estimated to be about 12,218 kg-COD/day, 91,884 kg-SS/day, 5,292 kg-TN/day, 182 kg-TP/day, 4,236 kg-DIN/day, and 130 kg-DIP/day. 2) The calculated results of the tidal current by the hydrodynamic model showed good agreement with the observed currents. Also, an ecological model well reproduced the spatial distribution of the water quality in the bay. 3) This study defined the ODWDI (ODW decreasing index) in order to estimate the ODW decreasing volume caused by a reduction in the inflowing pollutant loads. As a result, the ODWDI was predicted to be about 0.91 (COD 30% reduction), 0.87 (COD 50% reduction), 0.79 (COD 70% reduction), 0.85 (ALL 30% reduction), 0.66 (ALL 50% reduction), and 0.45 (ALL 70% reduction). The ODW volume was decreased 1.5 $\sim$ 2.6 times with a reduction in the COD, TN, and TP inflowing pollutant loads compared to a reduction in just the COD inflowing pollutant load. Therefore, it is necessary to enforce total pollution load management, not only for COD, but also fm TN and TP.
