A Novel Technique for Tuning PI-Controllers in Induction Motor Drive Systems for Electric Vehicle Applications

  • In the last decade, the increasing restrictions imposed on the exhaust emissions from internal combustion engines and traffic limitations have increased the development of electrical propulsion systems for automotive applications. The goal of electrical and hybrid vehicles is the reduction of global emissions, which in turn leads to a decrease in fuel resource exploitation. This paper presents a novel approach for control of Induction Motors (IM) using the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm to optimize the parameters of the Proportional Integral Controller (PI-Controller). The overall system is simulated under various operating conditions. The use of PSO as an optimization algorithm makes the drive robust and insensitive to load variation with faster dynamic response and higher accuracy. The system is tested under variable operating conditions. The simulation results show a positive dynamic response with fast recovery time.

  • This paper describes a re-adhesion control method for the Korean High-Speed Train (KHST) with parallel induction motor drive. To keep a traction efficiency and to improve vehicle maintenance, the adhesion characteristics between wheel and rail are analyzed. Also the re-adhesion controller is designed as the subsystem of induction motor vector control. In order to verify performance of the proposed control techniques, the simulation is executed by train model and a downscaled re-adhesion control simulator is utilized. Both simulation and running test results show that good re-adhesion characteristics are obtained.

  • Supercapacitors as novel energy storage devices between conventional capacitors and batteries, with more specific capacitance and energy densities than conventional capacitors and more power densities than batteries are to be used in many fields. And, social demand on fuel economy and reducing pollution needs equipment of new function such as energy storage system with good power performance, high cyclability and good energy efficiency. Supercapacitor is regarded as one of good alternatives for meeting the requirement of market with excellent power performance and high cyclability. This paper deals with the fundamental characteristics of supercapacitor unit and charge and discharge behavior of supercapacitor module for developing 42V hybrid energy storage system with lead acid battery and supercapacitor in order to adopt to 42V power net for vehicle.

  • In an attempt to minimize the air pollution caused by CO2, $NO_X$x, and $SO_X$ and the fuel cost, the auto industries and researchers recently are looking into replacing the diesel and gasoline cars with hybrid electric vehicles, plug-in electric vehicles, or battery powered electrical vehicles. This paper reports the technical status of the primary components such as batteries, motors, power control units and auxiliary parts to be used for electric vehicles.

  • Electrochemical capacitors are becoming attractive energy storage systems particularly for applications involving high power requirements such as hybrid systems consisting of batteries and electrochemical capacitors for electric vehicle propulsion. Both of amorphous cobalt oxide and manganese dioxide were prepared by sol-gel process reported in our previous work. Nanostructured supramolecular oligomer of 1,5-diaminoanthraquinone(DAAQ) coated metal oxides were successfully prepared by electrochemical oxidation from an acidic non-aqueous medium. We established process parameters of the technique for the formation of nano-structured materials. Furthermore, improved the capacitive properties of the nano structured metal oxide electrodes using controlled solution chemistry. $CoO_2$ and $MnO_2$-based composite electrode showed relatively good electrochemical behaviors in acidic electrolyte system with respect to specific capacity and scan rate dependency.

  • 본 논문은 하이브리드 전기자동차를 위한 에어컨 압축기용 구동 드라이브에 대해 연구하였다. 전기자동차의 경우 열악한 환경에서 구동되기 때문에 센서리스 타입은 필수적이며, 고효율화와 고집적화를 위해서 매입형 영구자석 전동기 IPMSM (Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronizing Motor)을 사용하였다. 본 논문에서 사용된 IPMSM은 비정현적인 역기전력과 입력전류를 가지기 때문에 기존 IPMSM의 센서리스 방식은 불가능하다. 이를 해결하기 위해 최소차원의 관측기를 구성하고 속도함수에 의한 가변차단주파수에 의한 강인한 필터회로를 이용한 새로운 제어 알고리즘을 제안하였다.

Design of Linear Transverse Flux Machine for Stelzer Machine using Equivalent Magnet Circuit and FEM

  • This paper presents the new design and validation process of the linear transverse flux machine of the stelzer machine for hybrid vehicle application. A linear transverse flux machine is a novel electric machine that has higher force density and power than conventional electric machine. The process concentrates on 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional analysis using equivalent magnetic circuit method considering leakage elements and it is verified by finite element analysis. Besides the force characteristics of all axis of each direction are analyzed. The study is considered by dividing the transverse flux electric excited type and the transverse flux permanent magnet excited type. Additionally three-dimensional analysis in this machine is accomplished due to asymmetric structure with another three axes. Finally, it suggests the new design and validation process of linear transverse flux machine for stelzer machine.

  • 하이브리드 자동차는 동력을 얻기 위해 엔진과 전동기를 모두 사용한다. 이 하이브리드 자동차의 구동부 구조는 다양한 형태로 구성할 수 있는데, 이 중 직렬-병렬 구조는 엔진의 토크 및 속도 자유도를 모두 확보할 수 있어 높은 효율을 달성할 수 있다. 직렬-병렬 구조는 발전기, 전동기, 그리고 속도 분배를 위한 유성 기어를 이용하여 주로 구현되고 있고, 최근에는 다양한 새로운 형태의 전동기가 개발되어 이를 구동부에 적용하는 것에 관한 연구가 진행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이 중 고정자를 회전자에 독립적으로 회전시킬 수 있는 새로운 형태의 전동기를 사용하는 구조에 관한 내용을 다룬다. 위의 전동기는 기존 구조에서 유성 기어 및 발전기의 역할을 대체하여 토크 분배 및 전기적 출력 변환을 수행할 수 있다. 또한, 회전하는 고정자에 인버터 회로를 탑재하여 슬립 링 대신 회전하는 고정자에 전력을 공급하는 방식을 제안한다.

Efficiency Improvement of Synchronous Boost Converter with Dead Time Control for Fuel Cell-Battery Hybrid System

  • In this paper, optimal control of the fuel cell and design of a high-efficiency power converter is implemented to build a high-priced fuel cell system with minimum capacity. Conventional power converter devices use a non-isolated boost converter for high efficiency while the battery is charged, and reduce its conduction loss by using MOSFETs instead of diodes. However, the efficiency of the boost converter decreases, since overshoot occurs because there is a moment when the body diode of the MOSFET is conducted during the dead time and huge loss occurs when the dead time for the maximum-power-flowing state is used in the low-power-flowing state. The method proposed in this paper is to adjust the dead time of boost and rectifier switches by predicting the power flow to meet the maximum efficiency in every load condition. After analyzing parasite components, the stability and efficiency of the high-efficiency boost converter is improved by predictive compensation of the delay component of each part, and it is proven by simulation and experience. The variation in switching delay times of each switch of the full-bridge converter is compensated by falling time compensation, a control method of PWM, and it is also proven by simulation and experience.

  • HEV(Hybrid Electrical Vehicle)의 배터리와 전동기/발전기용 인버터 사이에 전력의 흐름에 따라 바뀌어 동작하는 양방향 컨버터가 장착된다. 이 컨버터는 낮은 배터리의 전압을 승압해 DC-Link 전압을 높혀줌으로써 전동기의 전류용량을 낮춰 줄 수 있으며 그에 따른 전동기의 부피를 감소시키고 손실을 줄이는 역할을 한다. 본 논문에서는 HEV에서 사용되는 양방향 컨버터의 모드 절환을 포함한 디지털 제어 방법을 소개하고, 시뮬레이션을 통해 검증하였다.
