  • In this paper, we propose an error resilience video coder which uses a hybrid error concealment algorithm. Firstly, the algorithm uses the error concealment with data hiding. If the hiding information is lost, the motion vector of lost macroblock is computed with adaptive selection of adjacent motion vectors and OBMC (Overlapped Block Motion Compensation) is applied with this motion vector. We know our algorithm is more effective in case of continuous GOB. The results show more significant improvement than many temporal concealment methods such as MVRI (Motion Vector Rational Interpolation) or existing error concealment using data hiding.

  • The combined generator system by integrating several renewable energy sources can share the electrical infrastructure and therefore have the advantage of constructing not only the transmission system but also the power conversion system. Among the various combined renewable system, the wind power and wave power has a high possibility of future growth due to the economic feasibility in offshore environment. This kind of large-scale combined systems might be follow the determination by the transmission system operator's directions and control the output profile by focusing at PCC. However, both renewable energies are depend on the unpredictable environmental variation; it is needed to do the compensation devices. In this paper, the ESS compensation plan is proposed to do output determination of the combined generator system by paying attention to active power of utility grid with the analysis of the controllable elements of the wind and wave power generator. The improvement of the new application technique of the combined system is confirmed through using the PSCAD/EMTDC. The entire simulation process was designed by adopting the active power control according to the reference signal of TSO.

  • This paper presents the results of a study of voltage-controlled PIN diode attenuators for Ku-band satellite payload and suggests the temperature-compensation method of these attenuators. The PIN diode attenuators are designed using thin-film hybrid techniques. The load resistance for maximum linear characteristics is determined by simulation and measurements. In the case of APD0805, load resistance of 150 $\Omega$ gives attenuator up to 10 dB linear attenuation range per a PIN diode. Also, measurements over temperature of these PIN diode attenuators were performed. From these measurements, designed PIN diode attenuators shows the severe temperature dependency due to forward voltage variation. A temperature compensation method using thermistor is now suggested to compensate the temperature variation of these PIN diode attenuators. This circuit shows good linear characteristics over wide temperature range

  • A hybridized simulator for generating blood pressure waveform is proposed to study the remedy and/or evaluation of the conventional sphygmomanometer utilizing the oscillometric method which is widely applied. The blood pressure of a flowing fluid was controlled for the blood vessel's condition caused by a rhythmical and periodical contraction/relaxation because of the special excitatory and conductive system of the heart. In this study, a hybridized controller composed of the PI feedback controller and the feedforward controller. The inverse dynamics function is proposed to operating the control valve while the pressure is applied in an oil pressure tank. The proposed hybrid simulator reproducing the blood pressure waveform in an artificial blood vessel has kept the control performance consistent over all range. Based on these results, the proposed simulators could be applied to the development and compensation of the non invasive sphygmomanometer type as well as to study the characteristics of the blood pressure and blood vessel.

  • In the series hybrid active power filter (SHAPF) with magnetic flux compensation (MFC), the system current oscillate in the experimental results when adding the same phase harmonic current command in current control block. This condition endangers the security of the SHAPF. Taking the digit period average arithmetic as example, this paper explains the inter-harmonics current oscillation in the experiment. The conclusion is that the SHAPF is unstable to the inter-harmonics current in theory. Limited by the capacity of the inverter, the system current and the inverter output current do not increase to infinite. At last, some methods are proposed to solve this problem. From the practical viewpoint, the voltage feed-forward control is easy to achieve. It can suppress the current oscillation problems, and also improve the filtering effect. The feasibility of the methods is validated by both the emulation and experiment results.

  • In this paper, we have proposed the optimum technique for wireless ATM (WATM) error control in indoor environment. As the optimum technique, the conventional concatenated FEC only is regarded as the efficient error control method for time-critical ATM traffic in AWGN, and the pilot symbol-added fading compensation with the concatenated FEC is required to optimize the WATM performance in fading environment. Also, the truncated Type- H hybrid ARQ technique will be developed for quality-critical ATM traffic in order to improve its throughput. Therefore, this paper presents the optimization of WATM performance in indoor environment by means of evaluating above techniques using theoretical analysis and simulation.

  • This paper presents a simple dynamical prediction scheme of the signal level which is attenuated and varied due to rain fading in satellite communication links using above 10GHz frequency bands. The proposed prediction scheme has four functional blocks for discrete-time low-pass filtering, slope-based prediction, mean-error correction and hybrid fixed/variable prediction margin allocation. Through simulations using Ka-band attenuation data obtained from the data measured over Ku-band by frequency-scaling, it is shown that the slope-based prediction with the mean-error correction has as small standard deviation of prediction error as below 1 dB, and that the error is about 1.5 to 2.5 times as small as that without the mean-error correction. The hybrid prediction margin allocation requires smaller average margin than those of both fixed and variable methods.

  • In this paper, a 12.5-Gb/s optical transmitter is implemented using 0.13-${\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The optical transmitter that we constructed compensates temperature effects of VCSEL (Vertical cavity surface emitting laser) using auto-power control (APC) and auto-modulation control (AMC). An external monitoring photodiode (MPD) detects optical power and modulation. The proposed APC and AMC demonstrate 5$\sim$20-mA of bias-current control and 5$\sim$20-mA of modulation-current control, respectively. To enhance the bandwidth of the optical transmitter, an active feedback amplifier with negative capacitance compensation is exploited. The whole chip consumes only 140.4-mW of DC power at a single 1.8-V supply under the maximum modulation and bias currents, and occupies the area of 1280-${\mu}m$ by 330-${\mu}m$ excluding bonding pads.

  • In a single-phase power factor correction (PFC), the standard cascaded control algorithm using a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller has two main drawbacks: an inability to track sinusoidal current reference and low harmonic compensation capability. These drawbacks cause poor power factor and high harmonics in grid current. To improve these drawbacks, this paper uses a proportional-integral-derivative-resonant (PIDR) controller which combines a type-III PID with proportional-resonant (PR) controllers in the PFC. Based on a small signal model of the PFC, the type-III PID controller was implemented taking into account the bandwidth and phase margin of the PFC system. To adopt the PR controllers, the spectrum of inductor current of the PFC was analyzed in frequency domain. The hybrid PIDR controller were simulated using PSCAD/EMTDC and implemented on a 3 kW PFC prototype hardware. The performance results of the hybrid PIDR controller were compared with those of an individual type-III PID controller. Both controllers were implemented successfully in the single-phase PFC. The total harmonic distortion of the proposed controller were much better than those of the individual type-III PID controller.

  • Human motion analysis is an important research subject in human-robot interaction (HRI). However, before analyzing the human motion, silhouette of human body should be extracted from sequential images obtained by CCD camera. The intelligent robot system requires more robust silhouette extraction method because it has internal vibration and low resolution. In this paper, we discuss the hybrid silhouette extraction method for detecting and tracking the human motion. The proposed method is to combine and optimize the temporal and spatial gradient information. Also, we propose some compensation methods so as not to miss silhouette information due to poor images. Finally, we have shown the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method through some experiments.
