Gloeocercospora sorghi caused the zonate leaf spot on sorghum (Sorghum bicolor Moench) in fields in Korea. The zonate spots were conspicuous on sorghum leaves as circular, reddish purple bands alternating with tan or straw-colored areas, which formed a coarsely zonate pattern. The lesions often occurred in semicircular patterns along the margin of leaves. The fungus produced sporodochia on the surface of infected leaves in a moist chamber. The conidia, born in a pinkish to salmon-colored slimy matrix, were hyaline, elongate to filiform, straight or slightly curved, 3- to 17-septate, and of variable lenght (28-197 x 1.6-$3.4\mu\textrm{m}$). G. sorghi isolated from diseased leaves of sorghum caused characteristic reddish-brown water-soaked leaf spots when inoculated to seedlings.

Graphis upretii is a new lichen species discovered in Vietnam. The species is characterized by a loosely corticate, rough, whitish grey to greyish green thallus, elongate and irregularly branched lirellae with an apically thin complete thalline margin (negrosina morph), laterally carbonized, entire proper exciple, clear hymenium, hyaline, 16~20 transversely locular ascospores, and about $50{\sim}95{\times}10{\sim}15{\mu}m$ in size. In addition, members of the taxon produce norstictic and stictic acids. Currently, the lichen flora of Vietnam include Arthonia radiata, Brigantiaea tricolor, Coenogonium implexum, Dirina paradoxa, Herpothallon sipmanii, Pertusaria pertusa, and Sarcographina cyclospora.

One fungus was isolated from lesions on imported chinese cabbage leaves in process of quarantine inspection from China. The fungus was identified as Mycosphaerlla brassicicola, based on morphology of perithecia, asci, ascospore, and curtural characteristics. In Korea, this fungus has been quarantine fungus, and not yet report to occur. Perithecia of the fungus were globose, dark brown with apical papilate ostioles. The size was 90-100 ${\times}$ 130-135$\mu\textrm{m}$. Asci were bitunicate, 8-spored and 38-43 ${\times}$ 15-l9$\mu\textrm{m}$. Ascospore were irregularly biseriate, hyaline, cylindrical, 2-celled, and rounded at the ends. Optium growth temperature of the fungus was at 20$^{\circ}C$ on PDA but did rarely grow over 24$^{\circ}C$. Colony on PDA was of black aerial mycelia.

Leaf blight of kudzu ( Pueraria lobata ) was found in Jeonbuk province in 2002. The main symptoms appeared as leaf blight and showed yellowing and wilting. The causal pathogen of the leaf blight was isolated from symptomed kudzu leaf and produced white to cream, usually floccose mycelium. It readily formed reddish orange mycelium on PDA. It produced typical microconidia and macroconidia. The microconidia were the reniform. The macroconidia were wide, slightly curved, usually 3 to 4 septate and size was 45 ∼ 85 ${\times}$ 5 ∼ l0$\mu\textrm{m}$. The pathogen produced chlamydospore singly on short hyphal branches within 2 to 3 weeks, which was hyaline, globose, and smooth walled. The pathogen was, therefore, identified as Fusarium solani based on cultural and morphological characters. This is the first report on the leaf blight of kudzu caused by Fusarium solani in Korea.
In order to enhance the repair of defects in articular cartilage via cell therapy with autologous chondrocytes, as well as with periosteum-derived progenitor cells (PDPCs), silkworm hemolymph (SH) and a variety of cartilage-specific extracellular matrices (ECMs) including type II collagen, proline, chondroitin 4-sulfate, and chondroitin 6-sulfate were assessed with regard to their efficacy as media supplements. SH, a known anti-apoptotic agent, was found to enhance cell growth, as was shown by the results of a 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. According to the results of reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) analyses, the cartilage-specific ECMs were found to stimulate the expression of hyaline cartilage-specific genes, most notably type II collagen and Sox9, in monolayer cultures of PDPCs.
In March 2000, gray mold was found on day lily (Hemerocallis fulva L.) in Korea. Among the symptoms observed was blight or early rot with chlorotic halo of the leaves. All the isolates obtained from the lesions of the diseased plant parts were identified as Botrytis elliptica, based on the morphological characteristics of conidia. Conidia that formed on conidiogenous cells were not in chains, hyaline to pale brown, unicellular, ellipsoidal to obovate with a single hilum at the base, entirely verruculose, and 21-31 x 12-$23\mu\textrm{m}$ in size. Pathogenicity of the fungus was established by artificial inoculation on day lily plants. This is the first record of gray mold on day lily caused by B. elliptica in Korea.

A mycoparasite, Scytalidium parasiticum sp. nov., isolated from the basidiomata of Ganoderma boninense causing basal stem rot of oil palm in Johor, Malaysia, is described and illustrated. It is distinct from other Scytalidium species in having smaller asci and ascospores (teleomorphic stage), longer arthroconidia (anamorphic stage), hyaline to yellowish chlamydospores, and producing a fluorescent pigment. The phylogenetic position of S. parasiticum was determined by sequence analyses of the internal transcribed spacers and the small-subunit ribosomal RNA gene regions. A key to identify Scytalidium species with teleomorphic stage is provided.

Extraskeletal chondroma is a benign soft tissue tumor which is composed of hyaline cartilage but arises from the fibrous stroma rather than from mature cartilaginous or osseous tissue. Extraskeletal chondroma is relatively rare and occurs most frequently in the soft tissue around the joints of hands and feet. We present one case of extraskeletal chondroma in a finger of a young woman.
Bone marrow aspirate concentrate and matrix-induced chondrogenesis (BMIC) is an interesting treatment option for osteochondral lesions of the talus with promising short- to mid-term results. The various terminologies used to describe this surgical method need to be addressed. These include bone marrow-derived cell transplantation, matrix-induced bone marrow aspirate concentrate, and matrix-associated stem cell transplantation. BMIC is a one-stage, minimally invasive surgery performed arthroscopically or using a mini-open arthrotomy approach without a malleolar osteotomy in most cases. The lesion is replaced with hyaline-like cartilage, and treatmentrelated complications are rare. BMIC is a safe and effective treatment option and should be considered in large lesions or lesions with a prior treatment history.

Authors have experienced a case of neonatal sepsis whose organisms were group B streptococci. This case was early-onset type and the two premature babies were expired. Autopsy was done but no specific findings were shown in pulmonary parenchyma except focally mild atelectasis and dilated bronchiols and alveoli, and distictive hyaline membrane or aspirated materials are not identified. A brief review follows.
