  • 자연어에 의한 컴퓨터 조작은 시스템의 사용을 간편하고 편리하게 할 뿐 아니라 인간과 컴퓨터 사이의 정보 전달이라는 측면에서 시스템에 유연성을 제공한다.본 논문에서는 자연어 인터페이스를 지능형 지리교육 시스템(IGTS)에 적응하여 보고, 시스템 구현시 고려해야 할 여러가지 사항들을 설명한다.IGTS의 각 모듈들은 시스템과 학습자간의 자연스런 대화를 위해 인터페이스 모듈과 결합되어 있으며 상호 통신한다.

  • Computer vision and natural-language dialogue play an important role in friendly human-machine interfaces for service robots. In this paper we describe an integrated face detection and face recognition system for a welfare robot, which has also been combined with the robot's speech interface. Our approach to face detection is to combine neural network (NN) and genetic algorithm (GA): ANN serves as a face filter while GA is used to search the image efficiently. When the face is detected, embedded Hidden Markov Model (EMM) is used to determine its identity. A real-time system has been created by combining the face detection and recognition techniques. When motivated by the speaker's voice commands, it takes an image from the camera, finds the face inside the image and recognizes it. Experiments on an indoor environment with complex backgrounds showed that a recognition rate of more than 88% can be achieved.

  • Use of a hypertext is growing as multimedia and hypermedia systems become popular. The major difference between hypertext-based and ordinary user interfaces is navigation. Typically, there are two major navigation problems in a hypertext compared to the ordinary user interface: "Disorientation" and "Cognitive Overload". To reduce or eliminate these problems of the hypertext system, a variety of aiding tools have been proposed. Among them, a local map is a good tool for helping users navigate through screens, especially for a large and complex system. This study examined three major design variables of a local map in a hypertext: breadth, depth, and functionality of a map. A human factors experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of these variables. Based upon the results of the experiment, design guidelines are suggested.

  • In this study, we will present a knowledge-based consulting system, called THYCONS, for diagnosing thyroid disorders. It has been developed to make the knowledge and expertise of the human expert more widely available, therefore achieving a high-quality diagnosis. Frames will be used to represent the medical knowledge of thyroid disorders, and several rules are attached in each slot of a frame. The uncertainty of diagnostic processes is manipulated by the subjective Bayesian method under the assumption that the pieces of evidence are conditionally independent. Searching for the group of diagnostic tests to be carried out and their optimum sequences will be established in order to infer a more correct diagnosis on the basis of maximum information gain with cost and time restrictions. Additionally. differential diagnosis will be carried out based on the information gained.

  • This paper deals with a performance evaluation model of transporters in refrigerate warehouse. This study focussed on determining refrigerate warehouse design to minimize the expected travel time to improve the transporter performance and to minimize the operating costs. This study proposes the important detail aspects of refrigerate warehouse design, operational parameters and congestions. For solving this problem, we have shown a mathematical model to compute the initial value of the system performance and also a simulation model using AutoMod. A systematic approach proposed in this study for an optimal planning of order-picking warehouse is known as an effective method for the planning of order-picking warehouse and a performance evaluation problem of refrigerate warehouse operation.

  • Situation awareness is defined as a person's perception of the elements of the environment within a volume of time and space, the comprehension of their meaning and the projection of their status in the near future. Situation awareness is important in attempting to evaluate human behavior in operating complex systems such as aircraft, air traffic control, and nuclear power plant systems. From the literatures this study reviews the relationship between situation awareness and numerous individual, system and environmental factors, and also reviews the methodologies for the empirical measurement of situation awareness applicable to Korea Next Generation Reactor (KNGR) design project. Attention, working memory, workload, stress, system complexity, and automation are presented as critical factors limiting operator's situation awareness. Mental models and goal-directed behavior are hypothesized as important mechanisms overcoming these limits. This study summarized hypothesized guidelines for interface design to improve situation awareness of reactor operators. Some of the guidelines should be tested in the KNGR evaluation experiments in the future.

GOMS 모델을 기반으로 한 Rapid Prototyping에 관한 연구 (A Study of Rapid Prototyping Based on GOMS Model)

  • The purpose of this research was to develop an integrated interface for the usability test of systems or products in the design process. It is capable of automatically creating GOMS models which can predict human task performances. It can generate GOMS models to be interacted with the prototype interfaces. It can also effectively manage various design information and various usability test results to be implemented into the new product and/or system design. Thus we can perform usability test for products or system prototypes more effectively and also reduce time and effort required for this test. For usability tests, we established an integrated interface based on GOMS model by the LabVIEW program. We constructed the system that the linkage to GOMS model is available. Using this integrated interface, the menu structure of mobile phone can be constructed easily. User can design a depth and a breath that he want. The size of button and the label of the button is changable. The path to the goal can be defined by the user. Using a designed menu structure, the experiment could be performed. The results of GOMS model and the actual time are presented. Besides, values of operators of GOMS model can be defined as the value that user wants. Using the integrated interface that we developed, the optimal menu structure deducted. The menu structure that user wants can be established easily. The optimal layout and button size can be decided by comparison of numerous menu structures. User can choose the method of usability test among GOMS model and empirical data. Using this integrated interface, the time and costs can be saved and the optimal menu structure can be found easily.

  • To operate Platform Screen Door (PSD) automatically, the operational data of PSD and the train must be interfaced properly. PSD and train are operated together by the signaling system in Automatic Train Operation (ATO) signaling system zone where interfaces are provided between PSD and train. However, the additional PSD interface system with train is required in train operating zone without the interface between PSD and train. For the PSD interface, the wireless communication system or the train status (train correct stop status / train door status) detection system has been used. Seoul Metro line No.2. has the PSD wireless communication system using 447MHz band RF. For the safety of PSD operation, it is required to prevent RF interference in the subway environment where many frequencies exist. In this paper, the PSD wireless communication system is developed using 2.4GHz band RF to prevent the interference of the wireless communication and increase the traffic of the PSD interface. Furthermore, the improved system can store, manage and display the PSD and train operational data using Human Machine Interface (HMI) in the train's driver cab.

Digital Human Model Simulation을 위한 RAMSIS 추정 운전자세의 정합성 평가 및 개선 (Evaluation of Predicted Driving Postures in RAMSIS Digital Human Model Simulation)

  • For proper ergonomic evaluation using a digital human model simulation (DHMS) system such as $RAMSIS^{(R)}$, the postures of humanoids for designated tasks need to be predicted accurately. The present study (1) evaluated the accuracy of driving postures of humanoids predicted by RAMSIS, (2) proposed a method to improve its accuracy, and (3) examined the effectiveness of the proposed method. The driving postures of 12 participants in a seating buck were measured by a motion capture system and compared with their corresponding postures predicted by RAMSIS. Significant discrepancies ($8.7^{\circ}$ to $74.9^{\circ}$) between predicted and measured postures were observed for different body parts and driving tasks. Two methods (constraints addition and user-defined posture) were proposed and their effects on posture estimation accuracy were examined. Of the two proposed methods, the user-defined posture method was found preferred, reducing posture estimation errors by 11.5% to 84.9%. Both the posture prediction accuracy assessment protocol and user-defined posture method would be of use for practitioners to improve the accuracy of predicted postures of humanoids in virtual environments.

  • 포항 가속기연구소(PAL)에서는 포항방사광가속기(PLS)가 가동을 시작한 1994년 이후 현재까지 사용되어 온 기존의 제어 시스템을 새로운 환경인 EPICS(Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System) 시스템으로 개발하고 있다. EPICS 시스템의 구성은 IOC(Input/Ouput Controller) 와 OPI(Operator Interface)의 2-Layer로 구성되며 이는 MIU(Machine Interfaces Unit), SCC(Subsystem Computer Control System) 그리고 HMI(Human Machine Interface)로 이어지는 기존의 3-Layer 단계 중 SCC단계를 줄여 2-Layer로 구성된다. 이들 두 계층간의 통신은 Client(OPI)/Server(IOC) 구조의 Channel Access를 통해서 이루어진다. 개발중인 EPICS 시스템은 Open Architecture 구조로 IOC와 OPI 각 부분에서 개발시에 사용된 운영체제나 Hardware 를 사용하지 않고 다른 운영체제나 Hardware를 사용하더라도 하나의 공통부분 즉, Channel Access만 있으면 이를 통해 서로 다른 Subsystem IOC의 데이터를 Access할 수 있다. 전체 EPICS 제어시스템 중 저장링 운전의 핵심이 되는 BPM(Beam Position Monitoring) 및 MPS(Magnet Power Supply) 시스템은 IOC부분에 MVME5100(Target Machine) 보드와 vxWorks(Operating System)를 이용하고 OPI부분에는 SUN Workstation(Host Machine)와 Solaris(Operating System)을 사용하여 개발하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 IOC 및 OPI의 설치 절차와 설치 방법에 대해 기술하였다.
