Development of Vehicle Environment for Real-time Driving Behavior Monitoring System (실시간 운전 특성 모니터링 시스템을 위한 차량 환경 개발)

  • There has been recent interest in intelligent vehicle technologies, such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADASs) or in-vehicle information systems (IVISs) that offer a significant enhancement of safety and convenience to drivers and passengers. However, unsuitable design of HMI (Human Machine Interface) must increase driver distraction and workload, which in turn increase the chance of traffic accidents. Distraction in particular often occurs under a heavy driving workload due to multitasking with various electronic devices like a cell phone or a navigation system while driving. According to the 2005 road traffic accidents in Korea report published by the ROad Traffic Authority (ROTA), more than 60% of the traffic accidents are related to driver error caused by distraction. This paper suggests the structure of vehicle environment for real-time driving behavior monitoring system while driving which is can be used the driver workload management systems (DWMS). On-road experiment results showed the feasibility of the suggested vehicle environment for driving behavior monitoring system.

Comparative Analysis of Requirements for Information Presentation on In-vehicle Display Systems by Driving Career (운전 경력에 따른 차량 내 디스플레이 정보표시 요구사항 비교)

  • The accelerated convergence of automobiles and ICT has led to an increase in in-vehicle electronic devices designed to enhance the safety and convenience of drivers. Consequently, the information presentation on in-vehicle display systems for drivers and passengers need to be taken into account in order to guarantee driving stability while satisfying the needs of UX-based design users. This study compared and evaluated requirements for information items shown on in-vehicle displays regarding driving safety and convenience by groups according to driving career. A total of 38 information items related to safety and convenience that can be displayed while driving and pulling over were collected. Their level of necessity was tested and evaluated by 234 drivers. Using the results, we conducted a comparative analysis on the requirements for information presentation on in-vehicle display systems by groups according to driving career.

  • The use of Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) in the development of safety-related Human-Machine Interface (HMI) systems has gained much momentum in nuclear applications. Recently, one of the application areas for the Advanced Power Reactor 1400 (APR1400) is in the development of the advanced Component Interface Module (CIM) of the Engineered Safety Features Actuation System (ESFAS). Using systems engineering approach, we have developed a new FPGA-based advanced CIM software. The first step of our software development process involves the Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA) based on the previous CIM design. In this paper, we describe the qualitative approach used in performing the preliminary hazard analysis. The paper presents the methodology for applying a modified Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) procedure for the conduct of PHA which resulted in a qualitative risk-ranking scheme that informed the decisions for the safety criteria in the requirements specification phase. The qualitative approach provided the justification for design changes during the advanced CIM software development process.

A Study for Detecting a Gazing Point Based on Reference Points (참조점을 이용한 응시점 추출에 관한 연구)

  • The information of eye movement is used in various fields such as psychology, ophthalmology, physiology, rehabilitation medicine, web design, HMI(human-machine interface), and so on. Various devices to detect the eye movement have been developed but they are too expensive. The general methods of eye movement tracking are EOG(electro-oculograph), Purkinje image tracker, scleral search coil technique, and video-oculograph(VOG). The purpose of this study is to embody the algorithm which tracks the location of the gazing point at a pupil. Two kinds of location data were compared to track the gazing point. One is the reference points(infrared LEDs) which is effected from the globe. Another is the center point of the pupil which is gained with a CCD camera. The reference point was captured with the CCD camera and infrared lights which were not recognized by human eyes. Both of images which were thrown and were not thrown an infrared light on the globe were captured and saved. The reflected reference points were detected with the brightness difference between the two saved images. In conclusion, the circumcenter theory of a triangle was used to look for the center of the pupil. The location of the gazing point was relatively indicated with the each center of the pupil and the reference point.

A Study on the NC Embedding of Vision System for Tool Breakage Detection (공구파손감지용 비젼시스템의 NC실장에 관한 연구)

  • In this research, a vision system for detecting tool breakage which is hardly detected by such indirect in-process measurement method as acoustic emission, cutting torque and motor current was developed and embedded into a PC-NC system. The vision system consists of CMOS image sensors, a slit beam laser generator and an image grabber board. Slit beam laser was emitted on the tool surface to separate the tool geometry well from the various obstacles surrounding the tool. An image of tool is captured through two steps of signal processing, that is, median filtering and thresholding and then the tool is estimated normal or broken by use of change of the centroid of the captured image. An air curtain made by the jetting high-pressure air in front of the lens was devised to prevent the vision system from being contaminated by scattered coolant, cutting chips in cutting process. To embed the vision system to a Siemens PC-NC controller 840D NC, an HMI(Human Machine Interface) program was developed under the Windows 95 operating system of MMC103. The developed HMI is placed in a sub window of the main window of 840D and this program can be activated or deactivated either by a soft key on the operating panel or M codes in the NC part program. As the tool breakage is detected, the HMI program emit a command for automatic tool change or send alarm to the NC kernel. Evaluation test in a high speed tapping center showed the developed system was successful in detection of the small-radius tool breakage.

  • 현대의 산업은 대규모 공정제어 시스템을 통한 작업자와 작업자 인터페이스의 상호 유기적인 관계를 통하여 운영되고 있다. 이러한 유기적인 관계가 고신뢰도 체계를 운영하고 있는 석유화학, 군사, 통신 등의 안전성 문제에 많은 영향을 미치고 있다. 실제 대부분의 안전사고가 시스템 자체에 문제보다는 시스템을 운영하는 인간-기계 연계 체제(Human-Machine Interface; HMI)에서 비롯된 것이다. TMI, 체르노빌, JCO 등의 사고를 통하여 원자력발전소(이하, 원전)에서는 작업자 인터페이스의 품질 문제가 강조되고 있다. 이러한 노력의 일환으로 우리나라도 원전에 대한 10년 주기의 주기적안전성평가(Periodic Safety Review: PSR)에서 인적요소 평가를 포함하고 있다.(중략)

  • 최근 들어 전력량계는 기계식에서 반도체 소자를 사용하는 전자식으로 점진적으로 교체되고, 외부 통신 장치와의 데이터 통신 방식에 있어 국제 표준 규격인 IEC 62056을 기반으로 표준화하고 있다. 그리하여 표준화된 데이터 통신 방식으로 수집된 전력 정보를 취합하고 통합하는 운영 시스템 구축이 대두하게 되었고 사용자 중심의 HMI(Human Machine Interface) 관점에서 다양한 고객의 요구와 분석 자료 그리고 방대한 데이터 관리를 제공하기 위한 편리한 운영자 환경을 제공해야 한다. 본 논문에서는 전력량계에서 측정된 전력 정보를 저장하고 운영할 수 있는 시스템 개발에 관하여 연구하였다.

  • IEC 61850 based substation automation system mainly consists of human machine interface as a client and a various of IEDs as a server. Both of them should require the field testing for performance verification including IEC 61850 communication services. This means that the test can assure the interoperability of IEC 61850 based substation automation system consisted of multi vendor's products. This paper shows a research result on the field test of the IEC 61850 based HMI and IEDs. And it proposes some engineering solutions for the system implementation.

  • 변전소 건설과 운영에서 발생되는 자료들의 전산화와 데이터의 체계적인 관리는 매우 중요하다. 따라서 IT기술을 활용한 SIMS(변전소 정보관리 시스템)의 도입은 시스템을 통합하고 자료를 단위설비로 관리하는데 매우 효과적이다. SIMS는 시스템을 통합하는 인터페이스 역할로서 기존의 변전분야에 도입된 시스템들의 문제점들을 보완하고. 변전소 건설에서 발생하는 새로운 정보들을 저장함으로서 분산되어 있는 시스템을 통합할 수 있다. 따라서 SIMS는 건설하는 변전소와 운영되는 변전소에 적용하게 되면 HMI(Human Machine Interface)를 통한 변전자동화 및 무인화 방향에 부합되는 최적의 시스템이 될 것이다.

  • This study developed the virtual operation system for the hydraulic pump system for marine usage. The scope of this study is to develop a process dynamic simulation model for the hydraulic pump system for marine usage, to investigate the process dynamic characteristics using the models, to accomplish the logic diagram for the PLC control and to achieve a human-machine interface (HMI) for the convenience of operators to monitor and control the process. The virtual operation system provides a virtual operation environment for the pumping system, enabling the operators to simulate the change of process variables. The system will assist in developing advanced control logics and then optimal design of the system.
