Designers often hesitate to decide the shape, size, and layout of a product. Though ergonomic principles and data are absolutely needed in this process, they don't have enough guidelines to refer. For the refrigerator designers, they also are not convinced of their decision: the vertical position of the freezing and refrigerating rooms, the height of shelves, the shape of door-handle, and etc. To support the refrigerator design, we applied several ergonomic methods to the evaluation of a refrigerator. EMG measurement was used to evaluate the load of user's lumbar muscle. Based upon the experimental EMG data, we developed a model to predict the relative load according to the height of refrigerator shelves. Two different layouts of a refrigerator, R/F and F/R style, were compared with the model. A three-dimenaional motion analysis method was used to evaluate the user's motion of using a refrigerator. Ten door-handles with the different shapes and positions were evaluated by tracking the rotations of the user's arm. Video protocol analysis was used to evaluate the user interface of a control panel in a refrigerator. Finally, we made several ergonomic design guidelines based on the facts found in this research and the anthropometric data of the Korean adults. The results of this study can be applied to the ergonomic design of a refrigerator.
Robotics and automation are rapidly growing in the industries replacing human labor. The idea of robots replacing humans is positively influencing the business thereby increasing its scope of research. This paper discusses the development of an experimental platform controlled by a robotic arm through Robot Operating System (ROS). ROS is an open source platform over an existing operating system providing various types of robots with advanced capabilities from an operating system to low-level control. We aim in this work to control a 7-DOF manipulator arm (Robai Cyton Gamma 300) equipped with an external vision camera system through ROS and demonstrate the task of balancing a ball on a plate-type end effector. In order to perform feedback control of the balancing task, the ball is designed to be tracked using a camera (Sony PlayStation Eye) through a tracking algorithm written in C++ using OpenCV libraries. The joint actuators of the robot are servo motors (Dynamixel) and these motors are directly controlled through a low-level control algorithm. To simplify the control, the system is modeled such that the plate has two-axis linearized motion. The developed system along with the proposed approaches could be used for more complicated tasks requiring more number of joint control as well as for a testbed for students to learn ROS with control theories in robotics.

In this paper, Band-limlted Gaussian Random Noise and PRBS(pseudo random hinary sequence) are used as a test signals to estimate the dynamic characteristics of the ocuiomotor system. Eye movements of the human subject are measured by E.O.G(electro-oculography) and the control characteristics of the oculomotor system are studied by random signal an-alysis based on the statistical communication theory. The conclusions are summerized as follows. (1) From the frequency response, the gain curve rises slightly at the regions of 0.7~0.9 Hz and 1.8~2 Hz due to the saccades which are occurred during usual tracking. (2) The average rate of information transfer by the oculomotor control system is 1.24 bits/sec, being calculated from the power spectral density and the cross spectral density for the Gaussian random input.
Pulse diagnosis is considered one of the most important diagnostic methods in traditional Korean medicine. Nonetheless, there have been troubles of using pulse diagnosis practically, for the lack of its differential standards and standardized terminology. Rapid pulse belongs to the several traditional pulse types. Rapid pulse was first mentioned in the chinese medical book Haungdineijin that matched it to the fever as well as yang in the human body. Meanwhile, chinese doctors in Ming Ching dynasty of China suggested that rapid pulse meant more of the yin, cold-related reaction than yang and fever. In this study, we organized the past arguments of the rapid pulse and went back tracking what biological activities could be possibly linked to the rapid pulse. Thus, we figured out that the inflammatory mechanism has a close connection with the rapid pulse. The definition of the rapid pulse in Haungdineijin was indicating the acute inflammatory response, while in Ming Ching dynasty, it indicated the chronic inflammation. This is the deficiency-excess pattern of the rapid pulse. Furthermore, we discussed the nonexpression pattern of the rapid pulse which could be happened in case of the heat stroke, etc.
This paper presents a real-time motion restoration system for people who need remedial exercise of musculoskeletal based on Inverse Kinematics. A new approach is suggested to recognize a gesture based on restored human motion which is calculated the 3D positions of intermediate joints using 3D positions of body features estimated from images. For generating the 3D candidate positions of intermediate joints which cannot be extracted from images, we apply an Inverse Kinematics theory to compute the target position of intermediate joints. And we can reduce the number of candidate positions by applying the various physical constraints of body. Finally, we can generate the more accurate final position using the Kalman filter for a motion tracking and the relationship between the previous frame information and the candidate positions. The system provide motion information which are rotation angle and height in real-time, therefore the rehabilitation exercises can be performed based on the information and figured out proper exercise for individual status.

In this paper, we propose a CMAC(Cerebellar Model Articulation Controller) neural network for controlling a non-linear system. CMAC is a neural network that models the human cerebellum. CMAC uses a table look-up method to resolve the complex non-linear system instead of numerical calculation method. It is very fast learn compared with other neural networks. It does not need a calculation time to generate control signals. The simulation results show that the proposed CMAC controllers for a simple non-linear function and a DC Motor speed control reduce tracking errors and improve the stability of its learning controllers. The validity of the proposed CMAC controller is also proved by the real-time tension control.

The most important and critical to the performance of video surveillance systems is to be detected exactly how much. In order to accurately track the object must be able to accurately separate the background and object. However, the system itself rather than the human vision exactly distinguish the object and the background, to assess the situation, it is not easy. If we can accurately detect the background and the object, to be able to accurately track an object, it is possible to increase the reliability of the system, have a significant impact on the success of the entire production system. In this paper, we propose a way to distinguish more precisely the background and the object being to determine the background environment changes more accurately.

The human auditory system has been shown to posses remarkable abilities in the localization and tracking of sound sources. The localization is the result of processing two primary acoustics cues. These are the interaural time difference(ITD) cues and interaural intensity difference(IID) cues at the two ears. In this paper, we propose TEPILD(Time Energy Previous Integration Location Detector) model. TEPILD model is constructed with time function generator, energy function generator, previous location generator and azimuth detector. Time function generator is to process ITD and energy function generator is to process IID. Total average accuracy rate is 99.2%. These result are encouraging and show that proposed model can be applied to the sound source location detector.

This paper introduces a system that enables pupillary tracing and communication with patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) who can not move free. Face and pupil are tracked using OpenCV, and eye movements are detected using DE1-SoC board. We use the webcam, track the pupil, identify the pupil's movement according to the pupil coordinate value, and select the character according to the user's intention. We propose a system that can use relatively low development cost and FPGA can be reusable, and can select a text easily to mobile phone by using Bluetooth.
