  • Excessive vibrations can occur in long-span structures such as floors or footbridges due to occupant?s daily activity like walking and cause a so-called vibration serviceability issue. Since 1970s, researchers have proposed many human walking load models, and some of them have even been adopted by major design guidelines. Despite their wide applications in structural vibration serviceability problems, differences between these models in predicting structural responses are not clear. This paper collects 19 popular walking load models and compares their effects on structure?s responses when subjected to the human walking loads. Model parameters are first compared among all these models including orders of components, dynamic load factors, phase angles and function forms. The responses of a single-degree-of-freedom system with various natural frequencies to the 19 load models are then calculated and compared in terms of peak values and root mean square values. Case studies on simulated structures and an existing long-span floor are further presented. Comparisons between predicted responses, guideline requirements and field measurements are conducted. All the results demonstrate that the differences among all the models are significant, indicating that in a practical design, choosing a proper walking load model is crucial for the structure?s vibration serviceability assessment.

  • Pesticide runoff from crop fields is the important concern in environment because it may affect aquatic ecosystem and human. And it is essential to find out the amount of runoff and evaluate the possible effect on aquatic organisms for the human and environmental risk assessment. However, no definite guidelines have been established and related researches are not active in Korea since too many factors were involved in pesticide runoff and it was hard to predict it by using simple data. Therefore, various runoff studies with natural field, simulated rain/field, and computer models were reviewed for the general aspect of experiments and results.

  • Fashion brands seek guidelines for effective green advertising messages, considering benefit appeals, brand types, and construal level. However, few studies have explored their simultaneous interplay. Thus, the present study conducted an experiment with a 2X2X2 between-subjects design to investigate how brand type and construal level moderate the mediating role of ad-brand congruency between benefit appeals and purchase intention. A total of 245 Millennials and Generation Z participants completed an online survey, and the data were analyzed using SPSS. A significant three-way interaction was revealed. Low-construal-level messages with concrete content showed disparities between aspirational and accessible brands concerning other-benefit appeals: Accessible brands utilizing other-benefit appeals demonstrated higher ad-brand congruency, while aspirational brands had lower ad-brand congruency. Furthermore, within aspirational brands, self-benefit appeals resulted in higher ad-brand congruency than other-benefit appeals. Finally, a moderated mediating effect was discovered, indicating that brand types and construal level moderated the mediating effect of ad-brand congruency between benefit appeals and purchase intention. The mediating effect was prominent in the context of self-benefit appeals, aspirational brands, and low-construal-level messages. This study highlights the intricate dynamics of the three factors in green advertising, providing valuable insights for crafting more targeted green advertisements.

  • This paper examined the relationship between job stressor and job satisfaction according to the general property of disabled workers. Role ambiguity, role conflict, and role overload were cast as the factors of job satisfaction to explore their relationship with the general property and type of disabled workers. The results revealed that role ambiguity had the strongest meaningful relationships with job satisfaction and role conflict, role overload had not shown the meaningful relationships with their Job satisfaction. The reason of this results seemed to be from the fact that the work type available or not available to disabled worker was determined beforehand according to their disability type. Finally, these findings provide a guidelines of efficiency human resource management and strategic development program for the disabled workers.

  • In the ubiquitous computing environments. people usually carry multiple information technology devices with them. Personal device network (PDN) refers to the way how people connect multiple IT devices for their personal as well as professional purposes. Even though it has been Quite popular to construct the PDN in ubiquitous computing context, not much research has been conducted on how people actually connected multiple devices and what influences their methods of connection. In this paper we conducted a content analysis on community bulletin boards of IT devices and a contextual inquiry with expert users of PDN for investigating the configurations with which users connect multiple IT devices. Base on the results of two related studies, we identified three major types of PDN configurations, and key factors that influence the configurations of PDN. We conclude this research with guidelines to design a set of devices for each of the three configuration types.

  • Use of a hypertext is growing as multimedia and hypermedia systems become popular. The major difference between hypertext-based and ordinary user interfaces is navigation. Typically, there are two major navigation problems in a hypertext compared to the ordinary user interface: "Disorientation" and "Cognitive Overload". To reduce or eliminate these problems of the hypertext system, a variety of aiding tools have been proposed. Among them, a local map is a good tool for helping users navigate through screens, especially for a large and complex system. This study examined three major design variables of a local map in a hypertext: breadth, depth, and functionality of a map. A human factors experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of these variables. Based upon the results of the experiment, design guidelines are suggested.

  • It is absolutely important to design passenger seat so that train passengers can satisfy because passenger seat is one of the most important parts in tile determination of passenger's satisfaction for train.. So, it is necessary to consider passengers' characteristics, requirements, and dissatisfactions in seat design. However, passengers' dissatisfactions for the seat of Mugunghwa-ho train have been often raised through various routes. It is necessary to resolve their dissatisfactions to provide comfortable trip to passengers. So, we designed a seat of new Mugunghwa-ho train that resolved passengers' dissatisfactions. Our focusing design parts were the seat pan and the backrest of passenger seat. We investigated passengers' dissatisfactions for the seat of Mugunghwa-ho train through various methods and the human factors design guidelines of passenger seat through literature survey. We designed a new seat on the basis of investigated results. For newly designed seat, we evaluated comfort, sensible satisfaction, and fitness in comparison with the existing seat. An experimental method and a subjective method were used in this evaluation. In all aspects, new seat was superior to the existing.

  • This study is focused on the process of a furniture design in work spaces, especially for bank interiors. Basically furniture design is consisted of two main parts of process. The first part is series of a theoritical background and the second part is a visual design process. Theoretical background contains human activities in place, antropometric data, requisite furniture type according to activities and some guidelines for design. And for the visual design process, series of sketches(theoretical background must be applied to this process), and alternatives of design was needed. Researching and applying all these factors systematically to furniture design process will lead to harmonious interiors.

  • This study examines different types of navigation aids when a navigator performs target search tasks in Virtual Environments. The factors manipulated in this study include target information (None/Landmark). navigational difficulty (Easy/Difficult). and map types (None/2D Map/3D Map). Navigation performance was measured by using task completion time and the number of target locations that was remembered by the navigator. In addition, user satisfaction on the navigation aids was also measured by using a 7-point Likert's scale. The results showed that the user satisfaction on the landmark was high when the 3D Map was provided. The task completion time shortened when navigational difficulty was set at "easy." The number of remembered target locations was large when there was no landmark. It was also large with an easy navigation task. or a map (20 or 3D) provided. Guidelines for selecting navigation aids were proposed based on the results.
