MPEG-based Transcoding for Scalable Video-on-Demand System

  • MPEG-2 transcoding scheme is proposed as scalable transmission system for a video-on-demand system is described. In this system video contents encoded by MPEG-2 are transmitted to receiver terminals via communication lines that have different bit rate. A transcoding technique that directly converts a bit stream encoded by MPEG-2 into a lower coding rate stream without decoding is proposed. The transcoder called Trampeg includes size reduction and frame drop approach. The experimental results show that an MPEG-2 stream of 0 Mbps is able to be transcoded into a stream of 1.5 Mbps-300 Kbps.

  • 한국어의 용언구 중에서 [명사]+[불특정 조사]+[용언]의 형태를 보이는 '공부를 하다' '잠이나 자다'와 같은 어구는 [명사]와 [동사]의 결합이 비교적 자유로워 기계번역 시스템에서 이들을 처리하고자 할 때 몇가지 애로점이 있다. 우선, 기계번역 시스템의 특성상 이와 같은 용언구를 하나의 어구로 인식해서 역문을 생성해야 하는데 이들을 일일이 사전에 수록하기 어렵다는 점을 지적할 수 있다. 또한 이들 어구에 포함된 [명사] 부분이 [한정사]의 수식을 받을 때 영어 역문에서는 해당 수식어를 원래의 수식어의 의미 그대로 생성할 수 없다는 것도 중요한 문제점이다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 본 연구에서는 [명사] 부분과 [용언] 부분을 각각의 품사 사전에서 탐색하여 품사별로 인식한 후에 다시 통사적으로 하나의 용언으로 인식시켜 해당 역문을 생성하는 처리 방법을 제안한다. 또한, [한정사]의 수식을 올바로 생성하기 위하여 이런 종류의 용언구들을 분류하여 그 분류에 따라 [한정사]를 변형 생성하는 방법을 제시한다.

  • An Integrated Test Facility(ITF) is a human factors experimental environment to evaluate an advanced man machine interface(MMI) design. The ITF includes a human machine simulator(HMS) comprised of a nuclear power plant function simulator, man-machine interface, experiment control station for the experiment control and design, human behavioural data measurement system, and data analysis and experiment evaluation supporting system(DAEXESS). The most important features of ITF is to secure the flexibility and expandibility of Man Machine Interlace(MMI) design to change easily the environment of experiments to accomplish the experiment's objects In this paper, we describe a development scope and characteristics of the ITF such as, hardware and software development scope and characteristics, system thermohydraulic modelling characteristics, and experiment station characteristics for the experiment variables design and control, to be used as an experiment environment for the evaluation of VDU-based control room.

  • This study describes a modification of the technique for human error analysis in nuclear power plants (NPPs) which adopts advanced Man-Machine Interface (MMI) features based on computerized working environment, such as LCOs. Flat Panels. Large Wall Board, and computerized procedures. Firstly, the state of the art on human error analysis methods and efforts were briefly reviewed. Human error analysis method applied to NPP design has been THERP and ASEP mainly utilizing Swain's HRA handbook, which has not been facilitated enough to put the varied characteristics of MMI into HRA process. The basic concepts on human errors and the system safety approach were revisited, and adopted the process of FMEA with the new definition of Error Segment (ESJ. A modified human error analysis process was suggested. Then, the suggested method was applied to the failure of manual pump actuation through LCD touch screen in loss of feed water event in order to verify the applicability of the proposed method in practices. The example showed that the method become more facilitated to consider the concerns of the introduction of advanced MMI devices, and to integrate human error analysis process not only into HRA/PRA but also into the MMI and interface design. Finally, the possible extensions and further efforts required to obtain the applicability of the suggested method were discussed.

  • In this paper, it is shown the in-vehicle network architecture and implementation for multimedia service which supports Human machine interface of multi-passengers. For multi-passengers' vehicle, it has to be considered the factor of network traffic, simultaneously data transferring to multi users and accessibility to use variety of media contents for passengers compared to conventional in-vehicle network architecture system Therefore, it is proposed the change of network architecture compared with general MOST network, implementation of designed software module which can be interoperable between ethernet and MOST network and accessible interface that passenger can be plugged into MOST network platform using their device based on ethernet network system.

KBUD: The Korea Brain UniGene Database

  • Human brain EST data provide important clues for our understanding of the molecular biology associated with the function of the normal brain and the molecular pathophysiology with brain disorders. To systematically and efficiently study the function and disorders of the human brain, 45,773 human brain ESTs were collected from 27 human brain cDNA libraries, which were constructed from normal brains and brain disorders such as brain tumors, Parkinson's disease (PO) and epilepsy. An analysis of 45,773 human brain ESTs using our EST analysis pipeline resulted in 38,396 high-quality ESTs and 35,906 ESTs, which were coalesced into 8,246 unique gene clusters, showing a significant similarity to known genes in the human RefSeq, human mRNAs and UniGene database. In addition, among 8,246 gene clusters, 4,287 genes ($52\%$) were found to contain full-length cONA clones. To facilitate the extraction of useful information in collected these human brain ESTs, we developed a user-friendly interface system, the Korea Brain Unigene Database (KBUD). The KBUD web interface allows access to our human brain data through three major search modes, the BioCarta pathway, keywords and BLAST searches. Each result when viewed in KBUD offers comprehensive information concerning the analyzed human brain ESTs provided by our data as well as data linked to various other publiC databases. The user-friendly developed KBUD, the first world-wide web interface for human brain EST data with ESTs of human brain disorders as well as normal brains, will be a helpful system for developing a better understanding of the underlying mechanisms of the normal brain well as brain disorders.   • This paper shows the robot-vision system which consists of robot, vision system, single board computer and IBM-PC. IBM-PC based system has a great flexibility in expansion for a vision system interfacing. Easy human interfacing and great calculation ability are the benefits of this system. It was carried to interface between each component. The calibration between two coordinate systems is studied. The robot language for robot-vision system was written in "C" language. User also can write job program in "C" language in which the robot and vision related functions reside in the library.side in the library.

  • The aim of this study is to develop and evaluate an efficient camera calibration method for vision-based head tracking. Tracking head movements is important in the design of an eye-controlled human/computer interface. A vision-based head tracking system was proposed to allow the user's head movements in the design of the eye-controlled human/computer interface. We proposed an efficient camera calibration method to track the 3D position and orientation of the user's head accurately. We also evaluated the performance of the proposed method. The experimental error analysis results showed that the proposed method can provide more accurate and stable pose (i.e. position and orientation) of the camera than the conventional direct linear transformation method which has been used in camera calibration. The results of this study can be applied to the tracking head movements related to the eye-controlled human/computer interface and the virtual reality technology.

  • 현재 서비스되고 있는 홈네트워크는 가전기기들에 대한 홈오토메이션 서비스로서 웹이나 TV 등을 통한 메뉴선택 방식으로 제어되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 홈네트워크에 SMS를 통한 대화형 인터페이스를 도입함으로서 시간과 장소의 제약이 없는, 가전기기 제어를 가능하게 하였다. 대화형 인터페이스의 구현을 위해 홈네트워크 영역의 요구분석을 통하여 23개의 화행과 22개의 의미성분으로 이루어진 의미구조를 수립하였으며, WOZ(Wizard-of-OZ)방식으로 9만 6천 대화쌍을 수집하였다. 대화 처리를 위하여 예제기반 대화추론 및 응답생성 방법을 사용하였으며, SMS 영역에서의 성능향상을 위하여 전처리를 도입하였다. 구현된 서비스에 대한 성능평가 실험을 통해 사용자 만족도를 조사하였다.
