  • For a connected graph G, there are orientations of G have different hull numbers, geodetic numbers, and convexity numbers. The lower orientable hull number $h^-(G)$ is defined as the minimum hull number among all the orientations of G and the upper orientable hull number $h^+(G)$ as the maximum hull number among all the orientations of G. The lower and upper orientable geodetic numbers $g^-(G)$ and $g^+(G)$ are defined similarily. In this paper, We investigate characterizations of the orientable numbers and the conditions that the relation $h^-(G){\leq}g^-(G)$ < $h^+(G){\leq}g^+(G)$ holds.

  • A method of hydrodynamic discrete sources is applied for two-dimensional modeling of stepped planing surfaces. The water surface deformations, wetted hull lengths, and pressure distribution are calculated at given hull attitude and Froude number. Pressurized air cavities that improve hydrodynamic performance can also be modeled with the current method. Presented results include validation examples, parametric calculations of a single-step hull, effect of trim tabs, and performance of an infinite series of periodic stepped surfaces. It is shown that transverse steps can lead to higher lift-drag ratio, although at reduced lift capability, in comparison with a stepless hull. Performance of a multi-step configuration is sensitive to the wave pattern between hulls, which depends on Froude number and relative hull spacing.

  • Effects of low quality roughage sources on duration and frequencies of rumination and chewing in Hanwoo steers were determined, Animals were fed three diets; concentrate+rice straw(SO:SO), concentrate+ rice straw + popped rice hull(SO:3S: IS) and concentrate+ rice straw+ground rice hull(SO:3S: IS) to compare both rice straw alone and combination with rice hull. Eating and ruminating time of steers fed concentrate+ rice straw(SO:50), concentrate+ rice straw + popped rice hull(50:35:15) and concentrate + rice straw + ground rice hull(50:3S:15) were 78.8 and 338.4minlday; 98.0 and 362.5minlday, and 160 and 519.2min/day, respectively. When steers were fed popped rice hull and ground rice hull, time spent for both eating and ruminating was significantly increased(p <0.05). When steers fed popped and ground rice hull, number of ruminating chews and number of chews per rumination time were significantly decreased(p<0.05). The number of rumination boli and boli per rumination time had significantly decreased(p<0.05), but chewing time per boli, number of chew'S per bolus were significantly increased(p

  • There are various hull types on the mid-size superyachts around $30\;{\sim}\;45m$. In any case, it is important to design the proper hull shape in viewpoint of the reduction of wave resistance, because small vessels such as superyachts are running at relatively higher Froude Number than other merchant ships. FLUENT with a VOF option was employed to investigate the flow fields around the superyachts having three-typical hull types: U-, V-types and catamaran. Overall performances including free surface flow were compared to figure out hydrodynamic characteristics of superyachy by numerical simulation.

  • The planing craft is designed specifically to achieve comparatively high speed on the surface of the water. In general, the stepped hull craft has effect improvement in speed and fuel-efficiency because of the reduction of total resistance by a small wetted surface area without corresponding stepped hull craft. In this paper, the high speed stepped hull crafts with respect to the number of bottom steps were performed to compare the effect of resistance performance using at-sea model-test method. In conclusion, the stepped hull craft with twin-step was proved to be effective to reduce the total resistance.

  • This paper provides numerical results of the simulation for the flow around the hull and the propeller of KCS model ship advancing in shallow water conditions. A finite volume method is used to solve the unsteady Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS) equations, where the wave-making problem is solved by using a volume-of-fluid(VOF) method. The wave formed near the hull surface in shallow water conditions shows a deep trough dominant pattern that causes the loss of buoyancy followed by hull squat. The flow past the hull increases as the depth of water decreases. However, the axial flow velocity around the stern shows a reduction in magnitude by the effect of shallow water accompanied by the hull-propeller interaction. As a results, the thrust and torque coefficient increase about 8.3% and 6.2%, respectively for a depth of h/T=3.0 corresponding to a depth Froude number of $F_h=0.693$. The resistance coefficient increases about 11.6% at this Froude number condition.

  • In this paper, based on the measured data of hull deflection, an approximated hull deflection curve is drawn using reverse analyzed hull deflection data and the estimation method for flexibility analysis of shaft alignment is proposed by use of the approximate hull deflection curve. Generally an offset value of after stern tube bearing is a datum point with an fore stern tube bearing however the shaft alignment has a tendency which is able to get higher flexibility if the shafting system has the deflection value from after stern tube bearing as reference to bottom direction according to results of on this study. By applying this result of study, the shaft alignment for next similar ships will be able to estimate how to follow the hull deflection and how to be influenced by hull deflection at shaft alignment analysis state using the approximated hull deflection curve.

  • It is important to identify the location of ship hull blocks with exact block identification number when scheduling the shipbuilding process. The wrong information on the location and identification number of some hull block can cause low productivity by spending time to find where the exact hull block is. In order to solve this problem, it is necessary to equip the system to track the location of the blocks and to identify the identification numbers of the blocks automatically. There were a lot of researches of location tracking system for the hull blocks on the stockyard. However there has been no research to identify the hull blocks on the stockyard. This study compares the performance of 5 Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models with multi-view image set on the classification of the hull blocks to identify the blocks on the stockyard. The CNN models are open algorithms of ImageNet Large-Scale Visual Recognition Competition (ILSVRC). Four scaled hull block models are used to acquire the images of ship hull blocks. Learning and transfer learning of the CNN models with original training data and augmented data of the original training data were done. 20 tests and predictions in consideration of five CNN models and four cases of training conditions are performed. In order to compare the classification performance of the CNN models, accuracy and average F1-Score from confusion matrix are adopted as the performance measures. As a result of the comparison, Resnet-152v2 model shows the highest accuracy and average F1-Score with full block prediction image set and with cropped block prediction image set.

  • Two hull forms of 2, 500 TEU Container Vessel, designed by Daedong Shipbuilding CO., LTD. were tested at the Circulating Water Channel of Chosun University for the evaluation of resistance performance. The test results of resistance, wave profile measurement and trim-sinkage measurement are compared in the form of diagrams and figures, and the results are discussed. A conclusion is drawn that the performance of modified form (model number : CU-201F2A2) is improved about 8% resistance performance at the design speed compare with original form (model number : CU-201F1A1).
