  • In this paper, the ALT (ALTernative) board and a NetLogo extension module are developed for the active participatory simulation (APS) learning. Through the participatory simulation with HubNet each student can attend the experiment as one of clients. Only one HubNet server, however, is able to use an external device so that the bifocal modeling based learning with multiple users is impossible. In order to overcome the drawback, and enable clients participate into the experiment and collect the experimental data and the measured data, an ATmega 32 based board and its firmware are developed. In addition, Java extension module based on TCP/IP socket interfaces is developed to exchange the data with HubNet server. Finally, we show some NetLogo program examples to use the developed hardware and software for APS and seek the way to use them for science education.

  • Flooding based routing protocols are usually used to disseminate information in wireless sensor networks. Those approaches, however, require message retransmissions to all nodes and induce huge collision rate and high energy consumption. In this paper, HoGoP (Hop based Gossiping Protocol) in which all nodes consider the number of hops from sink node to them, and decide own gossiping probabilities, is introduced. A node can decide its gossiping probability according to the required average reception percentage and the number of parent nodes which is counted with the difference between its hop and neighbors' ones. Therefore the decision of gossiping probability for network topology is adaptive and this approach achieves higher message reception percentage with low message retransmission than the flooding scheme. Through simulation, we compare the proposed protocol with some previous ones and evaluate its performance in terms of average reception percentage, average forwarding percentage, and forwarding efficiency. In addition, average reception percentage is analyzed according to the application requirement.

  • The characteristics of the tool system give many effects into the costs and qualities for the finished components. This study proposes a new method for manufacturing of high manufacturing productivity, production process reduction and low cost through back pressure forming. The Lock-up hub is manufactured through many processes, such as upsetting($1^{st}$ Forming), piercing, direct extrusion($2^{nd}$ Forming), final sizing process($3^{rd}$ Forming). In this study, process design for closed-die forging of a Lock-up hub used for a component of automobile transmission was made using three-dimensional finite element simulations, and the strain distributions and velocity distributions are investigated through the post processor. The rigid-plastic finite-element method for back pressure forging has been used in order to reduce development time and die cost. Using the FEM simulation, we found the optimum value of back pressure. The prototypes of Lock-up hub parts were forged into the net-shape. In the experiment, lead precision of tooth are measured by the CCMM(Contact Coordinate Measuring Machine). The dimensional accuracy of forged part was improved up to the 40% when back press was applied.

  • Net shape forging technologies give many effects into the costs and qualities for the finished products. So, the studies to reduce the additional machining amount are very important in forging industry. Specially, there are two main topics in cold forging industry, such as, tool life and precision forging. In this study, new forging technique was proposed to eliminate the machining process for fixing up the length and improve the lead accuracy of gear. The luck-up hub is manufactured through many processes, such as upsetting, piercing and direct extrusion. The gear is formed in direct extrusion process; however, lead accuracy of the gear is over allowance limit. Therefore, the additional sizing process must be added. • This study was conducted with the aim of improving the food image classification model of a health care application targeting Koreans in their twenties. 546,194 images were collected from the Public Data Portal and AI Hub, and 175 food classes were constructed. The ResNet artificial intelligence model was trained and validated. Additionally, we deeply investigated the reasons for the relatively lower recognition accuracy of the actual food images, and we attempted various methods to optimize the model's performance as a solution.

  • The flange hub is a main component in an automotive steering system. In general, the flange hub are fabricated by mechanical machining, which is a process where material waste is inevitable. It is well-known that a net-shape cold forging cannot only reduce material waste but can also improve the mechanical strength of the final product. Thus, a forging process design was conducted for production of a flange hub. Significant spring-back occurs around the flange due to its small thickness in conjunction with the residual stresses after forging. In order to achieve the required dimensional accuracy, a process design with appropriate spring-back control is needed. In this study, a modification of the forging die was designed based on FE analysis with the purpose of spring-back compensation. Four kinds of different die designs were evaluated and the optimum design has two times less spring-back than the initial design. The compensation angle of the optimum design is 0.5 degrees. The results have been experimentally confirmed by cold forging of a flange hub and comparing the amount of spring-back between the actual component and the FE analysis.

  • This paper discusses a study on developing an artificial intelligence model to detect incidents of fires in distribution switchboard using thermal images. The objective of the research is to preprocess collected thermal images into suitable data for object detection models and design a model capable of determining the occurrence of fires within distribution panels. The study utilizes thermal image data from AI-HUB's industrial complex for training. Two CNN-based deep learning object detection algorithms, namely Faster R-CNN and RetinaNet, are employed to construct models. The paper compares and analyzes these two models, ultimately proposing the optimal model for the task.

  • Powder metallurgy processes are able to form Net-Shape products and have been widely used in the production of automobile parts to improve its productivity. However, because of pores in powder products, the toughness of powder products are generally poor. Therefore, forged products are used in parts which suffer severe fatigue loads. In this paper, the choice of powder materials and production processes such as mixing, compaction, sintering, heat treatment to produce automobile spline hub are studied. Three type of materials are selected and processed and its microstructure and properties are investigated by tensile test, compression ring test, and impact test. Materials and processing methods are selected from the results. Finally, experimental spline hubs are manufactured by selected processes from selected powders and proved by torsional durability test.

  • The global price of oil, which is both finite and limited in quantity, has been rising steadily because of the increasing requirements for energy in both developing and developed countries. Furthermore, regulations have been strengthened across all industries to address global warming. Many studies of hull resistance, propulsion and operation of ships have been performed to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. This study examined the design parameters of the propeller boss cap fin (PBCF) and hub cap for 6,000TEU container ships to improve the propulsion efficiency. The design parameters of PBCF have been selected based on the geometrical shape. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis with a propeller open water (POW) test was performed to check the validity of CFD analysis. The design of experiment (DOE) case was selected as a full factorial design, and the experiment was analyzed by POW and CFD analysis. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was performed to determine the correlation among design parameters. Four design alternatives of PBCF were selected from the DOE. The shape of a propeller hub cap was selected as a divergent shape, and the divergent angle was determined by the DOE. Four design alternatives of PBCF were attached to the divergent hub cap, and the POW was estimated by CFD. As a result, the divergent hub cap with PBCF has a negative effect on the POW, which is induced by an increase in torque coefficient. A POW test and cavitation test were performed with a divergent hub cap with PBCF to verify the CFD result. The POW test result showed that the open water efficiency was increased approximately 2% with a divergent hub cap compared to a normal cap. The POW test result was similar to the CFD result, and the divergent hub cap with the PBCF models showed lower open water efficiency. This was attributed to an increase in the torque coefficient just like the CFD results. A cavitation test was performed using the 2 models selected. The test result showed that the hub vortex is increased downstream of the propeller.
