Characteristics of Color Perception about Yellow and Blue with Human Lens Coloration (시간의 노화에 따른 Yellow와 Blue에 대한 색지각 특성)

  • With the progress of the aging society into the aged society, the planning of senior housing is inevitably required. Among the factors of planning, color appeals to people's vision which mostly accepts information about the environment, so age-related color vision changes should be studied. The purpose of the study is to find out characteristics of color perception focused on yellow and blue with advancing of the yellowed eye sight in the old age. The findings are as follows. (1) Regardless of gender, losses of color perception in sensitivity is occurred as aging is proceeded. But the rate of reduction is mitigated compared with the ex-research in Japan because of the promotion of physical health. (2) Human lens coloration was not common until 85 years old and the hue of yellow and red was easily perceived by the older subjects. (3) Yellow is more preferred to other colors by the elderly and accuracy of yellow-color perception is higher than that of blue-color. (4) It is especially hard for the elderly to perceive the difference between pure blue and mixture of blue-green. Therefore blue and blue-green should not be adopted simultaneously in senior housing environment. Except for the space which specially requires carefulness, various color preferred by the elderly should be applied to the senior housing environment to satisfy their psychological condition and provide the vitality of life.

  • The first of 2000's, Korea will be changed the aging society. And then the many of aged Korean are respected to live alone or with their wives/husbands at the housing for the elderly. Therefore the demand of the housing for the elderly will be increasing rapidly in Korea but it is difficult to provide it to them. The housing policy for the elderly in Korea is not definite so far. For the development of the housing policy for the elderly in Korea, the process of this study is as follows. 1st, The consideration of the residence consciousness of the elderly in Korea. 2nd, Focussing around the welfare of the aged act and the arrangement of agricultural and fishing villages act, the analysis of the housing policy/system for the elderly. 3rd, In conclusion, a proposal for the development of the housing policy for the elderly.

A Palette of Color Combination Based on Color Therapy for the Elderly (고령자를 고려한 컬러테라피 기반 색채 배색 팔레트)

  • As fast-speed of aging in modern society has led to increased concern for aging and health improvement of senior citizens, desire about having healthy living-environment has also increased. Living space for senior citizens has to play role of healing for their body feature as well as decrease in mental and psychological function. Color, as important factor that supplements degenerated sense and coping ability caused by aging, it has been revealed through modern medical science that color is effective for making nervous or calming down when it is delivered to one's nerve through sight. The purpose of this study is to suggest basic resource for color arrangement palette of living space and application method by color therapy to improve seniors' mental health by considering psychological and physical features caused by aging. First, consider psychological and physical feature of seniors and color therapy effect through previous research. Second, extract RGB value after selecting color that is helpful for their mental health by using palette from 'Korea Agency for Technology and Standards'. Third, extract other 3 colors that are similar with extracted color from 'NCS 1950 Color System'. Fourth, deduct palette of 3 color arrangement by using 'NCS Navigator' program. Lastly, extract arrangement palette for them by considering difference in visual features, and then suggest arrangement application for each palette through Computer Simulation.

  • In modem society, the development of science and industrialization has brought economic growth, and better living environment, improved food life, advanced medicine, and increased span of life have leaded us into the aging society. In the current situation to move toward the aging society, it's needed to prepare housing planning for retirement community in consideration of the physical and psychological and behavioral features of the elderly to raise their quality of life. The purpose of this study was to map out proper housing planning for retirement community in consideration of the physical, psychological and behavioral characteristics of senior citizens, instead of just focusing on comfortable and convenient one.

A Study on Attributes of Elderly Housing Selection by The Middle and The Aged (중년층과 노년층의 노인시설주거 선택 속성에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the elderly housing farcility design preference by comparing two groups, the present residents living in elderly housing facility and the middle aged. The latter has more housing experiences and more design oriented standard of selecting house for quality of living, while the aged are oriented more in economy and investment. It is identified that both group preferred living in elderly housing facility best to any other elderly housing type, including "aging in place." The aged are not yet very concerned about physically homelike design features, but when the middle aged need the elderly housing, it is recommended that more variety and amenity in its type, location, plan and design features. The idealistic facility planning and management system were suggested.

Intention to Move, Reasons for Considering Moving, and Future Housing Preferences of Senior Residents Living in Multifamily Housing in the United States (미국 아파트 노인거주자의 주거이동 의사, 주거이동 고려이유 및 주거 선호에 관한 연구)

  • This study identifies intention to move, reasons for moving and housing preferences of US residents 55 and older living in non-subsidized and market-rate multifamily housing in the United States. Data were collected using an on-line survey; mixed methods were used for data analysis (N=431). Results show that more than half of the respondents intend to move. Senior residents who were younger than average age of the respondents, not married, renters, had no elevator, and reported lower residential satisfaction with their housing unit, multifamily housing community and local area were more likely to intend to move. Seven reasons for considering moving were found: finance, health, lifecycle stage, housing unit, multifamily housing community, other. When asked about their future housing, more than 80% desired independent living rather than assisted living facilities or nursing homes, 40% wanted to live in multifamily housing, and 51% hoped to own their housing rather than renting. The findings offer meaningful information to the multifamily housing industry in the United States and in countries where the population is aging and where multifamily housing is the predominant housing type.

  • As the aging of this society, instead of growing numbers old protective functions of families decreased according to increasing tendency of nuclear families, increasing rates of females' participation of economic activities. Now, the problem of supporting the old is in need of social supporting system the cope with this situation. Thus it needs that welfare service for the elderly who stay at home that have local basis. The results are based on these factors are like this: 1) It is necessarily the instruction of medical welfare service. 2) The overlapped service is avoided and the service of specialized. 3) Most of the welfare service institution is Seoul and local city hall, so it needs the institution is transferred. 4) It needs the increase the number of home helper. 5) When the service is offered, the government must considers finance, elderly health condition and preference. 6) It needs the department for the welfare service for the old who stay at home.

  • In era of lowbirth, aging population, low growth and social polarization, the effective welfare delivery systems are taking on added significance than past years. Public housing welfare resources, such as public rental housing, housing voucher, affordable housing loan, are more diversified and expanded. These programs could work effectively by the comprehensive interlink and community based delivery system. From the standpoint of recipients, how effectively the substantial benefits of welfare resources being delivered to each individual is more important than how much welfare resources being produced totally. This study aimed to explore the reform of public housing welfare delivery system. For this purpose, diagnosed the current states and key issues related to public delivery system, and analyzed what kinds of housing welfare services should be strengthened, and finally suggested the collaboration among the public sectors (local government, LH, HUG, HF etc.) and the partnership with non-profit organizations. Main research implications are as follows. The main housing welfare services which could be categorized as the housing welfare center's role are advice & information offering, several public resources interlink and accessibility improvement, community based network construction, etc. And the most important key for successful delivery system reorganization is the collaborative operation of the public sectors and local government, non-profit organizations.

Housing Preference According to Social Relations of Urban Elderly in China (중국 도시거주 노인의 사회적 관계에 따른 주거선호연구)

  • According to aging society and social network society, the necessary of suitable alternative housing in the era has been increasing. The purpose of this research is to understand housing preference depended on the social relation of the elderly who lives in Beijing, China. The social relation was comprised of contact degree with child, contact degree with friend, contact degree with relative, degree of community participation, satisfaction with spouse and satisfaction with child. The housing preference was comprised of housing ownership, housing location, housing size and housing type. The survey was conducted on the elderly of 150 above fifties who lived in Beijing, China. For the result, the social relation was associated with the housing preference. Particularly, the relationship between the children was related to the housing ownership, housing location and housing size. The relationship between friends was related to the housing type. The level of community participation was related to the housing location. Social independence of the elderly, family cohesion, community attachment and adaption tendency were correlated with the housing preference. In conclusion, it was empirically identified that the social relation of the elderly had a relation with predicting housing preference. This result is expected to be useful in development of housing for the elderly in the future.

Keeping A Community Sustainable: Development of Affordable Housing for the Elderly in Nonmetropolitan Areas

  • Affordable housing has been a critical issue in the face of global economy and notably formulated a crucial agenda of the housing policy. While each local government seriously considers many approaches to providing affordable housing, a unique and innovative way to address it at a community level is fully uncovered, particularly nonmetropolitan areas where resources for economic development are limited and vulnerable. The purpose of this study is to examine the mechanism of the provision of affordable housing for the elderly in nonmetropolitan areas. In doing so, this research investigates the housing development and delineates it as one viable solution that stimulates local communities. The affordable housing development, as a viable option to spur local development and vibrate community, is closely reviewed, and the factors to make it feasible are drawn. The findings indicate that it is widely recognized that keeping the elderly in the community positively contributes to maintaining a sustainable community. In fact, the idea of affordable housing development for middle-class elderly people is brought by one inspired long-time resident, and it is expedited by the consensus and cohesion of local community. The development stimulates local businesses in relation to housing, and all homes sold by the elderly moving in the new housing are available for young families. Also, the presence of affordable housing for the elderly who are able to independently live is extended to a picture of aging-in-place at a broader level.
