Residential Environment Satisfaction of One-person Households : Focused on Young (19-39) Women in Korea

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze the residential environment satisfaction of young women's one-person households and the characteristics of young one-person households, and to present policy implications for their housing problems. Research design, data, and methodology: This study used 11th Korea Financial Panel Data. Analysis methods in this study include basic statistical analysis, frequency analysis, multiple regression analysis, and artificial neural network analysis. Results: As a result of the analysis of this study, 1) young one-person households showed that women had higher ratios of non-regular workers, real estate debt than men, and lower average income. The percentage of young people owning their own homes was very low at about 5%. 2) For young women, the higher the education level and monthly consumption, the lower the housing satisfaction. 3) Young women living in rental housing had lower housing satisfaction than their own. Conclusions: Women are paying more for housing security than men in young one-person households. In addition, the proportion of their own houses is very low. Therefore, there is a need for a policy on the housing safety issue of young women's one-person households. And policies to support young one-person households to own their own homes are required.

The Planning Directions corresponding to Satisfaction of Residents on Housing Environment in Rural Munhwa-Mauel (거주자의 만족도에 근거한 농촌 문화마을의 계획방향)

  • The objective of this dissertation is to provide appropriate planning guidelines making on Munwha-Mauel. This study carries out the investigation on rural housing environment conditions and conducts the subjective evaluation by residents about the conditions. Both a field survey and a questionnaire survey are used for the study. The evaluation of housing environment are based on safety, health, efficiency, amenity, and local community. The concepts suggested by WHO are adjusted for the study. Eight villages were selected comprising of two newly built, four expanded, and two renovated. As a results of this study, residents´ satisfaction about the housing environment is categorized by the village type, whether a resident works on agriculture, and the residential backgrounds The results show evident differences. Important variables which affect the overall satisfaction are the interactions among the residents, the living convenience. Planning guidelines on Munwha-Mauel are suggested to based on the results.

Impact of Normative Deficits for Bedroom Sharing on Housing Space Satisfaction of Adolescents (사춘기 청소년의 침실분리규범 달성여부와 개인공간 만족도)

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine bedroom-need norms and the relationship between normative deficits for bedroom sharing and housing space satisfaction of adolescent. Three cases were mainly considered to apply for adolescents to share a bedroom: maximum age and number limits of a child sharing a parents'bedroom, maximum age of an old child sharing a bedroom with its siblings of the opposite sex, and maximum age of an old child sharing a bedroom with its siblings of the same sex. The data were collected 400 eighth grade students in the three different size of regions, June-July, 1999 and 379 cases were finally analyzed. The result showed that the normative deficits for bedroom sharing was a statistically signiticant factor to explain housing space satisfaction of adolescents even though the condition of bedroom sharing was the most influencial variable. This reset supports the family housing adjustment behavior model of Morris and Winter.

  • The objective of this study is to find out demographic characteristics, motivation to move, housing values, and present housing satisfaction of expected purchasers, so that the results contribute to better planning of the medium size apartments at Guyoung in Ulsan city The field survey on 472 households has been carried out at suburbs of Ulsan. Major findings are as follows : 1) Demographic characteristics, motivation to move, housing values, and present housing satisfaction differ as the size expected purchasers live in at present. 2) To increase the motivation to move to Guyoung, well designed of planning common space, parking area, cultural and welfare facilities is essential. 3) To enhance the satisfaction level, better plan of dinning space and second bathroom is important for the apartments of 20py.s(~$m^2$), and that of family bathroom and utility space for the apartments of 30py.s(~$m^2$).

  • This study is to evaluate T-apartment housing located in Inchon by the occupants. The purpose of the study is extracting the design guideline to improve the physical environment in apartment housing from understanding and analyzing the residents'satisfaction and their needs. In this study, the strategy for environmental improvements is suggested to raise the occupants'overall satisfaction from finding the improvement priority. The results of this study are as follows: - The satisfaction level of the occupants is above the moderate level (3.31/3.00). - The construction quality is the 1 st factor in the improvement priority. - The characteristics of the occupants in this survey are that they are conservative in their present physical environment, but that they also need new trends in the unit plan.

Residents' Evaluation for Rural Housing Environment (농가 주거환경 평가)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify factors related to residential satisfaction, and to examine the rural housing and village environment which enable to derive what should be considered in the future rural housing improvement. Data were collected by questionnaire survey in 11 rural villages - suburban rural area, plain rural area, intermediate rural area, mountainous rural area. The major findings are as follows: 1) The rural residents rather dissatisfied with'management/maintenance','economic value','facade'in housing level, The overall housing satisfaction level was just medium(neither satisfied nordissatisfied). 2) They also dissatisfied with'playground for children','education condition','medical facilities', 'market'in village level. The overa'll village satisfaction level was just above average(slightly satisfied). 3) Vrom the result of ANOVA test, there are no significant differences in residents evaluation for tiousing and village attributes among 4 rural areas. 4) Factor analysis identified six rural housing environmental factors:'inside utilities','housing size' 'aesthetic aspects','safety','privacy','outside utilities'. 5) For the rural village environments six important factors were derived :'public services','commercial convenience facilities','social interaction','environmental pollution','amenity','agricultural service facilities'.

A Study on Deriving Evaluation Factors for Housing Satisfaction of the Physically Handicapped (신체장애인의 주거만족도 평가 요소 도출에 관한 연구)

  • This study is a literature study aimed to derive the evaluation factors for the survey of housing satisfaction of the physically handicapped. To attain the objective, the present study compared the influential factors of housing satisfaction for normal people and those for the physically handicapped found in the precedent researches, and analyzed them to draw out the evaluation factors for housing satisfaction of the physically handicapped. And then it drew out sub-factors and elements for the housing satisfaction of the physically handicapped. The evaluation factors for housing satisfaction of the physically handicapped are divided mainly into physical, social-psychological and economic factors. First, physical factor consists of 'functionality (usability)', 'safety', 'convenience', 'comfort', 'aesthetics', 'accessibility (mobility)', 'identifiability (recognition)'. Of them, 'functionality (usability)' factor consists of 3 sub-factors and 8 elements. 'Safety' was subdivided into securing safety and public order/crime prevention. and structural safety, and 7 elements were drawn out from 'safety'. 'Convenience' is sub-categorized into convenient usage and simple operation, and 9 elements were derived. 'Comfort' was classified into 2 sub-factors and 9 elements. 'Aesthetics' was classified into 2 sub-factors and elements. 'Accessibility (mobility)' was divided into 2 sub-factors and elements. 'Identifiability (recognition)' was classified into 2 sub-factors and 5 elements. Second, social-psychological factor includes 'sociality' and 'independence' factor. One sub-factor and one element were drawn from each of both factors. Third, 'economic factor' consists of 'economy'. One sub-factor and elements were drawn out from the factor. It is expected that the 10 evaluation factors, their sub-factors and elements that have been derived from this study can be used as the basic data and/or reference in designing residential space for the physically handicapped and making policy for it after verifying them in following studies. The present study finds itself significance in that the findings here can ultimately improve the housing welfare and life quality of the physically handicapped.

Effect of Housing Economic and Regional Characteristics on Life Satisfaction of the Elderly: Focusing on the Mediating Effect of Self-Esteem (주거의 경제 및 지역적 특성이 노인의 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향 : 자아존중감의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the effects of housing economic and regional characteristics on the ife satisfaction and the self-esteem of the elderly and how their self-esteem mediates the effects of housing economic and regional characteristics on their life satisfaction. The main results of the study are as follows. First, housing economic characteristics such as housing prices, occupancy area per resident, and ratio of utility cost to total living costs had a significant effect on the elderly's life satisfaction and self-esteem, and the elderly's self-esteem mediated the effect of the economic characteristics of housing on the life satisfaction of the elderly. Second, residential area, a regional characteristic of housing, had a significant effect on the life satisfaction and self-esteem of the elderly, and the self-esteem of the elderly mediated the effect of the residential area on the life satisfaction. Thus, because elderly housing welfare policies related to housing economic and regional characteristics affect the elderly's life satisfaction, a psychological welfare, through a mediating effect of the elderly's self-esteem.

  • This study aimed to examine and compare housing conditions and satisfaction degree of working college students in Seoul metropolitan area, depending on their stress level from economic burden and living housing type. The interview using the questionnaire was conducted. The subjects were 199 working college students aged between 19 and 35. The two-tier cluster sampling method were used, the region and representative university within the region. The comparison of satisfaction degree per type of housing of working college students has been conducted to find 3 characteristic patterns of satisfaction degree per housing condition from the stress of preparing the fund for rent, and students with high degree of stress from arranging rent showed relatively low degree of satisfaction in most items. 6 patterns have been identified in terms of housing types, and most of the students living in the Gosiwon, the poorest condition and housing type, showed the lowest degree of satisfaction, while those residing in the officetel turned out to the most satisfied. This study gives implications of housing welfare for working college students.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the relation between the dwelling location and the satisfaction level, and suggest a proposal to increase the quality of the livability space. A first of this study began from public surveys conducted to gather the information of satisfaction level from 4 multi-family housing sites in Gwang-ju. The plan was to the characteristics of the LS(livability space). The poll and the observation investigation was run concurrently. The cross analysis and the frequency analysis were used to analyze the data from the questionnaires. The validity of fixed quantitative index was got through the correlation analysis between the result of former analysis and index of livability space. The result said that the dwelling location have relations with the satisfaction level. In the conclusion, this will be a suggestion of the methods to enhance equal-quality of the livability space.
