The purpose of this study is to investigate the correlation between the affective responses and residents' satisfaction in apartment housing estates. This study was conducted to empirically identify the effect of physical contents of apartment buildings on the affective response and satisfaction of residents. The area for evaluation was limited to four apartment buildings in Daegu, and the subjects for evaluation were also limited to a group of residents living at the four apartment buildings. The correlation between the satisfaction with the physical elements of each apartment and the affective factors was analyzed. The analysis showed that there was mostly a statistically significant negative correlation. This result also suggests that the satisfaction with the physical elements may vary depending on the affective attitude. SPSSWIN, a statistical program was used for analysis.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the design characteristics of external appearances of Hundertwasser's housing projects through both literature review and field study, and to understand how Hundertwasser's architecture philosophy was embodied in the design of external appearances so such projects. The subjects of the analysis are: Hundertwasser House; In the Meadow Bad Soden; The Forest Spiral Darmstadt; and The Green Citadel Magdeburg. The conclusion of the study is as follows. The fundamental architecture philosophy of Hunderwasser is the close linkage between mankind and nature. He has proven, through his four housing projects mentioned above, that it is possible to build houses without destroying and in harmony with nature. Hundertwasser had identified vitality, irregularity and diversity as being the source of beauty of nature. Using the human creativity, he had embodied such elements into his housing projects, thus suggesting an ideal housing environment whereby humanity is respected. Hundertwasser made use of organic curved line and spiral shapes that exist in nature when designing his housing projects. His creativity was articulated through vitality, diversity, and irregularity in colour schemes and a wide range of form. Indeed, he was an architect pursuing the underlying nature of both human and nature. The current living environment in Korea can be characterized as being standardized and desolate, which is a result of housing projects being focused too much on functionalism. Through its analysis of Hundertwasser's housing projects, one of the objectives of this study is to contribute to a new design paradigm being called for today, including for housing projects to be more ecological and environmental-friendly. By motivating architects and appealing to their clients, this study hopes to motivate those involved in various housing projects to think progressively. Such an attitude change could assist in transforming and thus enhancing the overall living environment in Korea.
The purpose of this study is to explore cohort changes in first-time homeownership in Korea. The study collected qualitative data from individual interviews to explore the housing trajectories of different birth cohorts. As a result, Individual interviews facilitated an exploration of the decision making process of first-time homeowner with in a cohort context. The cohorts born in the 1950s seek a sense of security through homeownership, and have strong Korean sentiments of ownership. They tried various means to buy a house, and real estate market boom at that time played a role in the driving force. The cohorts born in the 1960s have less insecurity of tenure than the previous cohorts, but they still feel the need for homeownership. Since the currency crisis in 1997 caused the fluctuation of housing price, the 1960s cohort experienced a dramatic decline and rebound of assets while the previous cohorts had experienced a steady rise in housing prices. Finally, the attitude towards housing in the group of 1970s cohorts has changed from ownershiporiented to use-oriented.
Korean urban traditional housing abandoned by the social apathy promptly disappearing form our sight, or ruining. It tells that the strategies we are using today are impossible to fulfill socio-economic needs of residents here. So it needed to find out the strategies which can change this place better to live in. Consolidating the street parking lots fer cars can be one of the important solutions to the area. By using cul-de-sac, after setting up small unit of communities, we will have chance to have a small public space, and at the same time it can help to set up our tradition of people's intimacy inside the community. Most people have their own cars, and the need of parking lots becomes more serious. So, a meeting place like public well in the past must replace parking lots. On the other hand, it is important to re-consolidate existing land to obtain appropriate land size for other uses. Today, the use of private space (house, private lots, etc..)and public space(streets, local offices) is very important. NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) attitude should also be reconsidered. All these negative social aspects come from negative social relationship, thus we should consider them with care and deep understandings. The traditional housing of Korea should not be abandoned as slum, but this should be transformed in terms of the conservation since it is superior in its ecological and energy conservation aspect.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors negatively affecting college life, to investigate the perception gap between housing types, and to generate preliminary data for increasing residential satisfaction of students who live in temporary housing(e.g., dormitory or one-room). The utilized research methods included a questionnaire survey and an in-depth interview. The college students, especially from other regions, experienced more financial difficulties than others. They managed their tuition and living expense/allowance by parents supports and other sources(e.g., scholarship, arbeit, work in college, loan etc.). The reasons to choose dormitory, as temporary housing, were short distance to college and low costs. In case of one room, independent life was main reason to choose. Gender differences affected to the decision, moving away from present temporary housing. For example, male students preferred an independent life and a short commuting distance, while female students preferred an independent life and a safe life. Thus, considering the origin and gender differences of residents, dormitory planning needed to develop plans allowing independent life and to choose appropriate site for the purpose. In case of planning one room apartment, concerns for safety and landscape were more important than other factors.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the attitude of the middle and old age about the elderly housing and the planning elements according to the types of silver town. For this study, a pre-interview and a survey method were used for data collection. A questionnaire survey of 372 women over 45 years old was carried out. Among the data, 321 cases were analyzed by SPSS for Windows V12.0. The major findings were as follows: 1) Regarding the elderly housing, While the couple cohabitation type preferred the existing housing and the general housing, the single habitation type preferred the apartment and silver town. Some people wanted silver town occupancy due to the decrease of children support burden, the other did not want it due to economical burden and the absence of homelike affection. When they move into silver town, they wanted to take money, clothes, and photo album. 2) In silver town development, while the couple cohabitation type preferred the apartment, independent house, the single type preferred the apartment, housing complex and group-home. The unit housing sizes of them were around 82.6 and 49.6 square meters respectively. In the space composition of unit housing, while the couple cohabitation type preferred bath room, kitchen, living room and two of bed room, the single type preferred one of bed room and bath room at least. On the other hand, this study found out that it was possible to plan the space for eating and washing as the common space. 3) According to single or couple, and ages, there were significant differences in preferred spatial planning elements, which needs to be reflected in the silver town development. These results can provide improvement guidelines for the development of the silver town with the differentiation of design factors for the silver town planners.
To ameliorate a long-standing, persistent housing shortage in Korea, large-scale massive housing production has been an imperative, and the extensive growth highly values development and consumption. The state's priority for the quantitative growth of housing stock has proved to be successful, but the state faces with economic and environmental crises in a global era. To achieve the qualitative growth, the previous administration pronounced a green growth policy from the inception, and a series of strategic measures under a holistic plan have been taken widely and vigorously. As part of the strategies, the green home project was undertaken, and simultaneously the movement of green living led by the governance has been activated. However, little attention to the grassroots effort was paid and the efficacy hasn't been adequately addressed. This study examines the factors affecting green living of residents in multifamily housing. Based on public guidelines to green living, 106 specific items were drawn out and largely categorized into 6 areas (water, waste, transportation, air quality, consumption, and energy), and the questionnaire was constructed using them. Of 750 survey forms mailed out, 161 responses were returned and the collected data were used for statistical analysis. The findings indicated that varying degrees of green living was well practiced, the state-led green home project was relatively well recognized, and the green growth policy was strongly supported. Also the respondents' attitude toward green living were more associated with demographic variables than housing characteristics, and familiarity with green home project was related to attitudes toward green living. Since the on-going approach to green living has focused on simple and economical ways, it has proved to be effective but progressive strategies to make living greener are necessarily developed.
The purpose of this study is to suggest methods for the community design through users' behavior study in apartment housing. This study was approached by using both theoretical investigation and empirical research. The theoretical investigation actualized the concept of community design in apartment housing through a literature survey. The empirical survey focused on seeking out a user-oriented design criteria based on the analysis of residents' usage behavior and mental map. The results of this study are as follow: First. regarding the analysis of the residents' attitude toward the share community space(SCS), it was found that the SCS made a sense as community facilities in apartment housing. Second, regarding the SCS through the metal map, it was shown that the sketch map analysis was a useful research method for the community design by actualizing the residents' behavior characteristics. Third. as to the results of analyzing the metal map, it was found that the considered characteristics in recognition of the SCS were related to the liking with the main paths, cross nodes of the moving line, the location of center. and the complexity. In conclusion, the SCS is the main of community design in apartment housing and the above characteristics in recognition are useful as the guidelines in the SCS planning.

The purpose of this research is to suggest the way to promote housewives' understanding of science and technology, based on the survey results of the attitude toward science and technology, the scientific attitude, and the interest in science and technology of housewives in Korea. The questionnaire was developed by researchers and administered to housewives who live in Seoul to get basic information. Housewives showed slightly positive attitudes toward science and technology, and similarly positive scientific attitudes. These scores were increased as monthly income and education level were raised. Housewives' interest of the science-technology related topics (foods, health, education, leisure, social issues, cooking, housing, everyday activity) was relatively high, and the interest of foods, health, education, and leisure was significantly correlated with the scores of housewives' attitude towards science and technology and their scientific attitudes. Housewives are shown to be curious to know these topics when they were asked by their children or do not know the terms appeared in media, or purchase home appliances and food. And they get the answers in a passive way by asking their family members or by watching TV or newspapers. They preferred TV program for enhancing their understanding of science. But such program could be proper to present science knowledge but not fulfill the role to promote scientific literacy. Specially designed programs through science centers or science museums would be suggested for their lifelong education.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the construal level and temporal distance of a message and consumer's Social Network Service (SNS) self-efficacy on consumers' attitudes toward SNS fashion advertising. This study employed a 2 (message configuration: high construal level/low construal level) ${\times}$ 2 (temporal distance: distant future/near future) ${\times}$ 2 (SNS self-efficacy: high/low) between-subject factorial design. The survey was conducted on Facebook users in their twenties (N=216). The results are as follows: First, attitude toward SNS fashion advertising and purchase intention was higher when the message construal level was lower and when the temporal distance was closer. Second, no interactions between temporal distance and message construal level for attitude toward SNS advertising and purchase intention were found in this study. However, interactions between temporal distance and SNS self-efficacy for attitude toward SNS advertising and purchase intention were found. When the SNS self-efficacy was high, message with the low construal level reacted significantly positive in terms of attitude toward the ad as well as purchase intention. It is expected that this study will provide insight for apparel makers or retailers to use SNS as a new advertising media for fashion marketing. Practical implications and limitations are discussed.
