Vacant houses are increasing across the country, but the appropriate measures have not been set up yet. Accordingly, vacant houses are left unattended for a long time, and become deserted to degrade the residential environment. They are often used as the space for the deviation of youth or even for crimes, threatening the safety of rural society. Vacant houses are not only personal properties but also public assets that form the residential environment of a town. Therefore, the problem should be better taken care of with appropriate policies. In this study, the present situation of vacant houses in Korea, the causes of the vacant house and the limits and lessons of the improvement projects were reviewed, along with the vacant house improvement systems in the UK and Japan. The most significant difference between the cases in Korea and other countries are the method of vacant house improvement. In terms of policies and support, Korea focuses on demolition, whereas other countries focus on reuse. In addition, the vacant house improvement projects in Korea are performed mostly by government agencies, whereas local governments and private organizations in other countries cooperate to improve vacant houses and go beyond mere residential environment improvement towards the local revitalization. Based on the study results, the following are proposed to efficiently improve and use the rural vacant houses. First, the Rearrangement of Agricultural and Fishing Villages Act, which allows the vacant houses to be left unattended and not improved, should be revised. Second, the intermediate support organizations that connect the demand and supply should be fostered and supported so that the use of vacant houses can be vitalized and privately led. Third, the best practices of using the vacant houses should be found and promoted, and the vacant house remodeling technique should be developed and propagated. Fourth, a special law should be enacted to comprehensively plan, support and execute the vacant house improvement, as in Japan. Finally, the value of the vacant houses as public properties should be shared in public so that all citizens can participate in addressing the vacant house issue to derive the detailed plans to solve the problem.

Objectives: Particulate contaminants, such as total and respirable dusts, can harm the health of farm workers via several routes. The principal aims of this field study were to determine the concentrations and emissions of particulate contaminants: total and respirable dusts, in the different types of swine houses used in Korea, and allow objective comparison between Korea and the other countries in terms of swine housing types. Methods: The swine houses investigated in this research were selected with respect to three criteria: the manure removal system, ventilation mode and growth stage of pigs. Measurements of total and respirable dust concentrations and emissions in the swine houses were carried out on 5 housing types at 15 different farm sites per housing type. The swine houses investigated were randomly selected from farms situated within the central districts in Korea: province of Kyung-gi, Chung-buk and Chung-nam. Results: The total and respirable dust concentrations in the swine houses averaged $1.88\;and\;0.64mg/m^3$, ranging from $0.53\;to\;4.37mg/m^3$ and from $0.18\;to\;1.68mg/m^3$, respectively. The highest concentrations of total and respirable dusts were found in the swine houses with deep-litter bed systems: $2.94mg/m^3\;and\;1.14 mg/m^3$, while the lowest concentrations were found in the naturally ventilated buildings with slats: $0.83mg/m^3\;and\;0.24mg/m^3$, respectively (p<0.05). All the swine houses investigated did not exceed the threshold limit values (TLVs) for total ($10mg/m^3$) and respirable ($2.5mg/m^3$) dusts. The mean emissions of total and respirable dusts, per pig (75 kg in terms of live weight) and area ($m^2$), from the swine houses were 97.33 and 9.55 mg/h/pig and $37.14\;and\;12.83mg/h/m^2$, respectively. The swine houses with deep-litter bed systems showed the highest emissions of total and respirable dusts (p<0.05). However, the emissions of total and respirable dusts from the other swine houses were not significantly different (p>0.05). Conclusion: The concentrations and emissions of total and respirable dusts were relatively higher in the swine houses managed with deep-litter bed systems and ventilated naturally of the different swine housing types tested. In further research, more farms than the number used in this research should be investigated, which will present objective and accurate data on the concentrations and emissions of total and respirable dusts in Korean swine houses. In addition, personal sampling should be performed to objectively assess the exposure level of farm workers to particulate contaminants.
This study was conducted on the premise that plan types of the public residential houses proposed after the 1945 implicatively showed the developing process of the modern housing. The formal characteristics created through the developing process were analyzed in Micro-Historically. Moreover, by providing a new viewpoint on the changes of the residential houses that occurred around 1945, we tried to provide the fundamental research background for the research on the developing processes of the future housing cultures. The research pursued mainly on the major spaces that became the modern change indices of housing plan changes from the traditional housings in 1940s to the modern housings such as the master bedrooms(An-Bang), kitchen, the main floored-space(Maru), and the secondary bedroom (Kune-Bang). The major experimental subjects are the 87 public residential plan types designed and supplied by the Korea Housing Cooperation in between 1945 and 1970. The study synthesized the developing process of the public residential houses from the traditional residential houses in 1940s through modern situation and intrusion of foreign housing cultures. Following results were derived from the study: First, various and experimental housing plan types had been proposed as public residential houses since 1945. Among them, the plan having the main floored-space(Maru) were the representative type of public residential houses and various series of houses were constructed based on this type. Second, the main floored-space(Maru) type had continued building connection order of the R-M-R that were used in the traditional houses. On the other hand, with decomposition of connecting ring between the main floored-space(Maru) and the kitchen, rationalization of women circulations and introduction of family-centered spaces had been resolved the demands of modern society. It had greate effect on settlement of the current double-row Maru plan type. Third, in Korea most of plan types for the public residential houses were proposed in between 1945 and 1965. Forth, the location of kitchen and relation between Maru and the master bedroom were arranged visually on the corner and center of the rear row with the micro change characteristics of the public residential houses. In this process, the front row was similar with traditional residential houses but the rear row was differentiated and developed with expansion of Maru and Ondol rooms, increase of closet spaces, and introduction of kitchen that divided spaces for sleeping and eating.

Urban problems are constantly occurring around the world due to rapid industrialization and population decline. In particular, as the number of vacant houses is gradually increasing as the population decreases, it is necessary to prepare countermeasures. A plan to utilize vacant houses has emerged to restore the natural environment of the urban ecosystem where forest destruction, damage to habitats of wild animals and plants, and disconnection have occurred due to large-scale development. Through connectivity analysis, it is possible to understand the overall ecosystem flow based on the movement of species and predict the effect when vacant houses are converted into green spaces. Therefore, this study analyzed the green area network to confirm the possibility of greening of vacant houses neglected in Jeonju based on circuit theory. Using Circuitscape and Least-cost path, we tried to identify the connectivity of green areas and propose an ecological axis based on the analysis. In order to apply the resistance values required for analysis based on previous studies, the 2020 subdivision land cover data were integrated into the major classification evaluation items. When the eight forests in the target site were analyzed as the standard, the overall connectivity and connectivity between forests in the area were high, so it is judged that the existing green areas can perform various functions, such as species movement and provision of habitats. Based on the results of the connectivity analysis, the importance of vacant houses was calculated and the top 20 vacant houses were identified, and it was confirmed that the higher the ranking, the more positive the degree of landscape connectivity was when converted to green areas. In addition, it was confirmed that the results of analyzing the least-cost path based on the resistance values such as connectivity analysis and the existing conceptual map showed some differences when comparing the ecological axes in the form. As a result of checking the vacant houses corresponding to the relevant axis based on the width standards of the main and sub-green areas, a total of 30 vacant houses were included in the 200m width and 6 vacant houses in the 80m width. It is judged that the conversion of vacant houses to green space can contribute to biodiversity conservation as well as connectivity between habitats of species as it is coupled with improved green space connectivity. In addition, it is expected to help solve the problem of vacant houses in the future by showing the possibility of using vacant houses.

The korean elderly population over the age from 60's is increasing. Especially, elderly over the 60's furniture which resides at the apartment is increasing. Consequently, We are predicted by elderly furniture which resides at the apartment increasing. A life leisure of elderly is occupying big importance. We come to be high and are interested also to treat in the elderly leisure problem. The leisure equipment for elderly is important residing area. The purpose of this study is to analyze the uses of the elderly houses in Korean and to provide for some basic useful data to designing of the elderly houses. 2 elderly houses located in the apartment complexes in Seoul were sampled, and interview with questionnaire was conducted for 14 elderly people. The questionnaire, consisted ; conditions of the elderly houses, users' satisfaction and users' characteristics.
This study investigated the architectural characteristics and preservation status of traditional houses, designated as cultural assets in Jecheon. It aimed to provide basic information for cultural assets preservation policy in Jecheon by finding architectural characteristics of traditional houses. This study was conducted using the research methods of the existing literature and field survey to compare a current status of traditional houses. The result are as followings. Firstly, measures to protect the archetype of traditional houses are urgently needed. For systematic maintenance of local cultural assets, the relevant informations have to be constantly updated with ongoing management. Secondly, the site of traditional houses show the typical appearance of Baesanimsu(背山臨水). They were built with the hill or mountain in the north and agricultural land in the south. Types of placement are mostly closed type of 'ㅁ' shape. Thirdly, An-chae is found various type of 'ㄱ' shape, and Toet-khan was developed. Lastly, Sarang-chae is a mostly type of 'ㄴ' shape, and the traces of confucian thinking is found in floor plan.
Accoring to many studies which concerned with the types of folk houses, there are many types of folk houses in Korean peninsula and its areal distribution had been determined by the barrier of mountains, in general. But we have neglected to examine the overlapped areal distribution still now. If two types of culture with different housing type contact at one region, it may interrelated each other and invent certain exclusive charicteristics. And there are its own attitude of traditional culture in Kyung-buk provingce where serveral types of folk houses settled together. The purpose of this research is to clarify the general pattern of culture in terms of folk houses in northern Kyung-buk province and to suggest a clue to solve the cultural inter-relationship each other, By classification of the collected plans in this area, the authors try to find out the charicteristics of the serveral types and there areal distribution. Finally, we can find out that certain types of folk houses located in northern Kyung-buk province had formed their cultural regions and these homogeneous regions are overlapped, partly.

Recently, low energy houses have become an essential issue globally and various subsidy programs are ongoing to penetrate. All-electric houses which are another type of low energy houses or zero carbon houses are being developed. These houses consider new & renewable energy and demand side management programs in the construction and the diffusion process because these programs are essential policies to use energy resources reasonably. This paper shows a simulation methodology to control home appliances in all-electric houses considering the electricity consumption pattern of residents. The simulation is a first step to estimate energy saving of the house in a practical manner.
After the Industrial Revolution. most of experimental houses were had focused on the way of construction structure and material of buildings. Especially the Case Study Houses among experimental house of the mid-twentieth century were appreciated as an important case in a viewpoint of technology space and aesthetics. The Case Study Houses program was started by the sponsorship of magazinein California 1945 after the World War II. From 1945 to 1966. for about 20years more than 36 house projects were progressed by the Case study House Program This research divided and organized the expression characteristics of the Case Study Houses' technical spacious and artistic aspects. As a result the experimental housing concept that was established within the Case Study Houses became the remarkable concept of the modern architecture that is successfully accomplished within the frame of housing.

Go-Sul-Sik(高設式) On-Dol(溫突) houses have a combination of high Ma-Ru and high On-Dol structure. This type of house had been developed in the process of combining Ma-Ru with On-Dol. Go-Sul-Sik On-Dol houses give a clue to unveil exchanging process of Korean On-Dol and Ma-Ru. Go-Sul-Sik On-Dol can be understood as an architectural type of introducing On-Dol into the upper classes' Ma-Ru afterwards. Apparently, Go-Sul-Sik On-Dol houses were not a two-story building. But they had a two-story structure because of On-Dol rooms, which implied a symbolic rank and On-Dol's practicality as well as its being high. Go-Sul-Sik On-Dol houses were peculiar architectural type which realized lives of the very individual authority and symbolic representation within the strict Confucian society. It seemed to be derived from an alternative of the upper classes' architectural culture integrating an ideal into reality.
