Purpose - The purpose of the study was to investigate the financial difficulty of the elderly in each income group and to examine the factors having related influence. The study adopted models with Korean welfare panel material and examined factors that having influence upon low income elderly's selection on retail business. Research design, data, and methodology - The study investigated the effects having influence upon the financial difficulty of elderly household as well as common household. It also examined independence variables having influence upon household's financial stress and found out the direction of financial control in elderly household. The study investigated the effect of financial stress upon economy to support consumption of the elderly. Results - In cases of financial difficulties, independent variables of the debt increased the financial difficulties of elderly households relying upon traditional markets. The elderly households had financial difficulties because of independent variables of the debt except for loan from financial institution. Conclusions - In this study, the elderly's financial stress had influence upon the use of retail business and the characteristics of residing and family. Further study shall give support policies for the elderly to alleviate financial burden.

Objectives: The study aimed to analyze the effects of household financial difficulties caused by COVID-19 (2019 coronavirus disease) on suicidal tendencies of adolescents. Methods: We selected 54,948 middle and high school students who were surveyed based on the Korean Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey 2020. To analyze the data, we used the STATA 16.0 program to conduct propensity score matching (PSM). Results: After controlling for selection effects by using PSM, the household financial difficulties caused by COVID-19 maintained a significant predictive effect on increasing suicidal ideation, suicide attempts, and decreasing tendency in hospital-treated after suicide attempts. However, depressive symptoms and suicide plan did not show a significant correlation with household financial difficulties associated with COVID-19. Conclusions: It was found that the rate of suicidal ideation and suicide attempts among adolescents who experienced a household financial difficulties due to COVID-19. Therefore, It can provide empirical evidence for estimating the impact of COVID-19 on adolescent suicide rates.
The instability in the current financial market caused consumers a lot of difficulties in their financial decision making. The purpose of this study is to classify the changes in household portfolios during the economic crisis under IMF-trusteeship (IMF Crisis hereafter), and to examine the characteristics of the households according to the types of household portfolio changes. The data were taken from 1996 and 1999 Korean Household Panel Studies, and 1,293 households were selected for the final analysis. Methods of analysis included frequencies, percentages, Chi-square tests, F-tests, and t-tests. Major findings are as follows: 1. In the midst of the financial market changes during the period of the IMF crisis, consumers tended to manage their household portfolio differently according to their household characteristics. 2. The changes of household portfolio can be classified into two different types: the changed type (44.4%) and the unchanged type(55.6%). There are significant differences in the level of wealth, family life cycle stage, housing tenure, and the household head's job, between the changed type and the unchanged type. The family members of the unchanged type are more likely to be older and relatively wealthy compared with the families in the changed type. 3. The changes of household portfolio can be further classified into six different types: the unchanged-liquidity type (21%), the unchanged-multiplication type (24.6%), the unchanged-insurance type (9.8%), the changed-to-liquidity type (13.9%), the changed-to-multiplication type (13.0%), and the changed-to-insurance type (17.5%). There are significant differences in income level, wealth level, family life cycle stage, housing tenure, and the job of household head among the six types of changes.
The purpose of this study was to suggest some ways to utilize effectively the labor forces of employed women. For this purpose, this stud\ulcorner examined the family’s attitudes toward the work of married women and the effects of determinants including personal characteristics, household related variables, work related variables and family’s attitudes toward the work of married women on the employment status of married women. KLFI(1995)’s National data were used and one Logistic model and one Calmed model were employed to analyze the efficients of the independent variables. The resets of this study were as follows. The family’s attitudes toward the work of married women among the employed women was highly positive and the one toward the unemployment among the unemployed women was positive too. The variables having significant effects on the husbands’attitudes and the parents(parents in law)’attitudes toward the work of married women were different. The family’s altitudes had a very significant effect on the employment status of married women. Also, the financial situation of the household and some difficulties to find proper house keepers or child care types were important variables to predict the employment status of married women.
The use of credit cards has been increasing form last decade, although there are many kinds of difficulties for using credit cards. the aims of this study is exploring the problems of arising form the use of the credit card. Four types of the problem are proposed; 1) The problem of managing the credit card. 2) The problem of the time of using credit card 3) The problem of ' credit 'between issuer and user of credit card, 4) the problem of cosigner. The cases which concerned with each types of problem are discussed. Guidelines of using credit card are proposed that can be useful for consumer education and helpful for users and dealers of credit card.

The purpose of this research is to propose a plan on migration policy based on features, through analyzing the migration adaption process and the farming life of the back-to-countryside population throughout the nation. For this, survey has been conducted to find out urban-to-rural migrants' motives and characteristics. The major reason for the migration was the household's financial condition, and the most of migration decisions were made by either one's spouse or parents. The migration fund was primarily spent in early agricultural activities and it was the neighbors who aided them the most whilst teaching them many farming techniques. Some government-supported policies are being highly demanded regarding the lower level of income (than urban life) and difficulties of raising cultivation funds; these two things are what migrants consider as the most inconvenient and suffering matters in farming life. Many surveyee have responded that they would constantly stay in the rural area and continue on their life as a farmer, giving a promising prospect for future farmland life. Based on these trends and features, development strategy regarding elaborate settlement plan of urban-to-rural migration is necessary.
The objectives of the study were to determine 1) energy uses for residential requirements, 2) if energy consumption and adoption of energy conservation attitudes and practices vary with independent variables family size, stage of family life cycle, homemaker's level of education, income, heating system, and number of electrical household items, and 3) if there is a correlation between energy conservation attitudes and practices. Questionnaires were given to the randomly selected homemakers I Seoul in the summer (September, 1979) and the winter (February, 1980). Analysis of variance and correlation were used to analyzed the data which consisted of 537 usable responses of 895 returned in the summer and 554 responses of 794 returned in the winter. The results are as follows: 1) The order of consumption rate of the direct energy uses for residential requirements was found to be heating and air conditioning, cooking, refrigeration, T.V., lighting, and miscellaneous. 2) Energy consumption and adoption of energy conservation attitudes and practices were significantly related to family size, homemaker's level of education, and the stage of family life cycle. (1) Families of five members revealed higher scores in attitudes and practices than families less than five or more than six. (2) The higher the homemaker's level of education, the more energy consumption and the higher scores I attitudes and practices were found. (3) Families in the middle stage of family life cycle tend to use more energy than younger or older families, but their scores in attitudes and practices were high. 3) There was a significant correlation between energy conservation attitudes and practices. However, the scores of the conservation practices were not as good as the attitudes. It may be attributed to either a lack of knowledge and/or financial difficulties, or a dissonance between the concept and implementation of energy conservation. 4) Recommendations for the energy-saving and energy-related public policies are: (1) to use such human resources as attitudes, values, feelings of agreement, and cooperation, as well as nonhuman resources for the energy conservation, (2) to develop a educational program and a creative system I order to implement energy conservation programs, and (3) to consider direct as well as indirect energy uses I selecting goods and services.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate cost side by type of long term care services economically, and then to discuss the findings and implications for the results of analysis. For this research, primary caregivers that provide care the elderly requiring long term care services sanctioned by National Health Insurance Corporation were drawn and surveyed. Among collected data, data for 422 primary caregivers were used for this study. The subjects used in this study consisted of family caregivers from various settings that give care to the elderly. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, caregiver's household income level is low. Therefore, caregiving families with the elderly are likely to have financial difficulties. Second, under coverage of long term care insurance system, the direct cost caregiving households pay for the elderly is still very high. Third, indirect cost of caregiving households accounted for the larger proportion caregiving costs. Fourth, social cost burden for caregiving the elderly is very high. This cost amount is appropriately equal to household income of caregivers surveyed in the research. Fifth, service use cost of caregiving households is differentiated by type of long term care service. Sixth, direct cost of caregiving households is statistically significantly differentiated by type of long term care service, but is differentiated less than service use cost. Seventh, social indirect cost for caregiving the elderly is statistically significantly differentiated by type of long term care service. Eighth, social cost amounts for the elderly utilizing long term care service is very high, total social cost per capita by types of long term care service tend to converge on average social cost per capita of total service.
This study was carried out to examine how solid the production foundation of rice in Chung-Nam Province is, and, if not, to probe alternative measures through the size of farms specializing in rice, of which direction would be a pivot of rice industry-oriented policy. The results obtained can be summarized as follows : 1. The amount of rice production in Chung-Nam Province is highest in Korea and the size of paddy field area is the second largest : This implying that the probability that rice production in Chung-Nam Province would be severely influenced by a global trend of market conditions. The number of farms specializing in rice becoming the core group of rice farming account for 7.7 percent of the total number of farm household in Korea. Average field area financial support which had been input to farm household by Government had a noticeable effect on the improvement of the policy of farm-size program. 2. Farm-size program in Chung-Nam Province established from 1980 to 2002 in creased the cultivation size of paddy field to 19,484 hectares, and this program enhanced the buying and selling of farmland and the number of farmland bargain reached 6,431 household and 16,517 hectares, respectively, in 1995-2002. Meanwhile, long-term letting and hiring of farmland appeared so active that the bargain acreage reached 6,970 hectares, and farm involved was 7,059 households, however, the farm-exchange-and-unity program did not satisfy our expectation, because the retirement farm operators reluctantly participated to sell their farms. Another reason that had delayed the bargain of farms rested on the general category of social complication attendant upon the exchange and unity operation for scattered farm. Such difficulties would work negative effects out to carry on the target of farm-size work in general. 3. The following measures were presented to propel the farm-size promotion program : a. Occupation shift project, followed by the social security program for retirement and elderly farm operators, should be promptly established and also a number of types of incentives for promoting the letting and hiring work and farm-exchange-and-unity program would also be set up. b. To establish the effective key system of rice production, all the farm operators should increase the unit area yield of rice and lower the production cost. To do so, a great deal of production teams of rice equipped with managerial techniques and capabilities need to be organized. And, also, there should be appropriate arrays of facilities including information system. This plan is desirable to be in line with a diversity of the structural implement of regional integration based on farm system building. c. To extend the size of farm and to improve farm management, we have to devise the enlargement of individual size of farm for maximized management and the utilization of farm-size grouping method. In conclusion, it can be said that the farm-size project in Chung-Nam Province which has continued since the 1980s was satisfactorily achieved. However, we still have a lot of problems to be solved to break down the barrier for attainment of the desirable farm-size operation work.. Farm-size project has fairly close relation with farm specialization in rice and, thus, the positive support for farm household including the integrated program for both retirement farmers and off-farm operators should be considered to pursue the progressive development of the farm-size program, which is key means to successful achievement of rice farming enforcement in Chung-Nam Province.
