An Evaluation of Welded Drying Equipment (건조장치 제작 및 사용성능 평가)

  • In order to prevent the environmental pollution, the dryers are commonly used to treat sludge that one of sewages is polluting the quality of water. Rotary dryer is a good apparatus to treat them. The rotary dryer is the way that is to make substance transmission and heat using hot air between sludge particle and heated gas. In this paper, a numerical analysis was performed for the structural analysis of the 3-pass rotary dryer through the finite elemeny method and an experiment was done for the structural stability. And reasonable relation was found between analysis and experiment.

Effect of the Suction Performance by the Air-Curtain Blowing around a Suction Duct (흡입관 주위에 형성된 공기차단막이 흡입성능에 미치는 영향)

  • A study is conducted to improve the suction performance on suction devices which are used to remove polluted air generated by welding or machining process in a spacious working place of industry. Air-curtain is applied around the inlet of suction duct to interrupt the inflow of fresh air from the downstream region where is located opposite to the polluted air source. Two different air-curtain devices, such as a $45^{\circ}$ backward and a fully backward, are adopted. Suction region is experimentally investigated by measuring the suction velocities using a hot-wire anemometer. Contours of the suction velocity are compared with the computed results. The suction condition is selected to 110,000 Reynolds number which is widely used on typical suction devices, and a width of blowing passage for creating the air-curtain is chosen to 9.38% of the suction duct diameter. The experimental results show that the suction performance obtained with the $45^{\circ}$ backward air-curtain was better than that obtained with the fully backward air-curtain. On the suction duct using the $45^{\circ}$ backward air-curtain, the suction region estimated on basis of the 0.4m/sec is improved by 66% at the same input power.

  • Condenser tube has been used as a component of heat exchanger in automobile and air conditioning apparatus. In this paper, porthole die extrusion that is advantageous to form long hollow section tube is analyzed by direct extrusion of condenser tube with 12 holes. A study on extrusion process is performed through the 3D FE simulation at non-steady state and extrusion experiments. Especially, weldability, extrusion load and die defects were estimated try FE-simulation. This study present the redesigned die of direct extrusion in consideration of the results obtained from FE-analysis.

  • This is a partial report of the investigation of fatigue behaviour of hollow section T-joints with circular brace members and rectangular chord members (CRHS). Hot spot stresses and the stress concentration factors (SCFs) were determined experimentally. Fatigue testing was carried out under constant amplitude loading in air. The experimental SCF values for CRHS joints were found to be below those of circular-to-circular (CCHS) and rectangular-to-rectangular (RRHS) hollow section joints. The fatigue strength referred to experimental hot spot stress was in reasonably good agreement with current fatigue design codes for tubular joints.

  • In casting steels for offshore construction, manufacturing integral casted structures to prevent fatigue cracks in the stress raisers is superior to using welded structures. Here, mold design and casting analysis were conducted for integral casting steel. The laminar flow of molten metal was analyzed and distributions of hot spots and porosities were studied. A prototype was subsequently produced, and air vents were designed to improve the surface defects caused by the release of gas. A radiographic test revealed no internal defects inside the casted steel. Evaluating the chemical and mechanical properties of specimens sampled from the product revealed that target values were quantitatively satisfied. To assess weldability in consideration of repair welding, the product was machined with grooves and welded, after which the mechanical properties of hardness as well as tensile, impact, and bending strengths were evaluated. No substantive differences were found in the mechanical properties before and after welding.

  • In this paper are described the indirect induction healed boiler and induction boated hot air producer using the voltage-fed series resonant high-frequency inverter which can operate in the frequency range from 20[kHz]to 50[kHz]. A specially designed induction heater, which is composed of laminated stainless assembly with many tiny holes and interconnected spot welding points between stainless plates, is inserted into the ceramic type vessel with external working coil. This working coil is connected to the inverter and turbulence fluid through this induction heater to moving fluid generates in the vessel. The operating performances of this unique appliance in next generation and its effectiveness are evaluated and discussed from a practical point of view.

  • This paper describes the analysis of extrusion process and integrity for the condenser tube which is component of the heat exchanger in automobile and air conditioning apparatus. As development of the analysis method using computer, recently. It have been applied to the 3-dimensional hot extrusion process with complex section area of the non-steady statement and then results of the analysis have been applied to optimal die design and process design. As the result, this paper confirmed that used extrusion die of the research is satisfactorily designed to dimensional accuracy. And the stress point of view, condenser tube confirmed that it was influenced by the flow pressure of alternative regrigerants.
