In order to analyze principles of taking concoction and make clear the origin of contraindication against five pungent vegetables, the regulations of Guizhitang prescription in "Shanghanlun" the twelfth article and "Wushierbingfang", "Wuweihandaiyijian", "Jinguiyaolue" were researched. Four principles of taking concoction were put in order; strengthening the effect of concoction by eating hot rice gruel and wearing bedclothes, preventing decline of drug effect by food regulations, optimization of elution and effect of material herbs by crushing, low heating, determination of administration time based on manifestations of drug effect by sweating and its aspect. These principles and methods of taking concoctions were developed from boiling to simple processing of material herbs, contraindication in the middle of taking concoction and perspiration by wearing bedclothes and eating hot rice gruel in order from the analysis of medical literatures. The contraindication against pungent vegetables were generalized in early Dong-Han dynasty already, and the five pungent vegetables were inferred as Allium tuberosum, Allium bakeri regel, spring onion, wild rocambole and garlic in medical context to the exclusion of religious idea. The reason of prohibition against five pungent vegetables could be interpreted as optimization of therapeutic effects by pharmacological control of pungent ingredients because the healthy qi damage and evil qi retention were resulted from destroying of harmonious ying and wei by overeating pungent vegetables during disease state. Conclusively the regulations of Guizhitang prescription referred to taking concoction in "Shanghanlun" fulfilled their functions to maximize pharmacological effects through various ways inside and outside and these reasonal principles of taking concoction has been influenced over the traditional medical practice deeply.
The objective of present study was to investigate the effect of seasons on reproductive performance of Hanwoo and Holstein heifers. Heat stress in summer or cold stress in winter stress to Hanwoo and Holstein heifers may bring reproduction failure, which would pose an important economic loss, even around Daegwallyeong region located in high mountainous area. Seasonal differences in the serum levels of LH, FSH and progesterone ($P_4$) in response to environmental factors (hot and cold) out of 20 pubertal Hanwoo heifers in Daegwallyeong, Gangwon Province and 20 non-lactating Holstein heifers in Chonan city of Republic of Korea at 2-3 years of age were compared. Blood samples for hormonal analysis were from jugular vein after detection of estrus repeatedly over four seasons within four-week intervals (Spring: May to June, Summer: July to August, Autumn: October to November and Winter: January to February). In Hanwoo heifer population, averages of LH and FSH concentration in spring and in summer were greater compared to those in winter (p<0.05). LH or FSH levels tended to be greater (p=0.06) in spring and less (p=0.09) in winter compared to the levels in autumn. Only in summer, cattle seemed to show lower LH or FSH secretion (p<0.05). Similar to the results in Hanwoo heifers, the serum concentrations of LH and FSH in Holstein heifers decreased further by heat stress in summer when P 4 levels were high during luteal phase. The results demonstrate significant effect of summer heat on reproduction of Hanwoo or Holstein heifers. Although parameters indicating the extent of heat stress were not measured in this study, we suggest that serum hormone levels could be considered as successful indicators of summer heat stress condition for Hanwoo and Holstein heifers even under rather cool summer climate.

A variety of minor alloying elements such as Zr, Sr, Y, and Gd were added to Mg-3%Zn-0.5%Sn base alloy to form various fine precipitates and their effects on the microstructure, tensile properties, and sheet metal formability were investigated. Various very fine precipitates along with fine second phases were observed by the additions. It was found that Zr or Gd additive has a role to suppress the grain coarsening of alloy sheets during the hot working process. The Zr-added alloy showed the highest tensile elongation at $250^{\circ}C$ whereas the Gd-added alloy exhibited the best sheet metal forming characteristics in terms of CCV (conical cup value) and spring-back tendency.
Cow feces excreted in cold season should be managed and composted properly, because the composted feces is distributed to pasture or cultivated land as a fertilizer in spring. Generally it is admitted that the effect of composting is suppressed by low temperature in cold season. In this study, composting piles were warmed by hot air until temperature of compost piles were reached at 35∼40$^{\circ}C$, to compare composting effect of experimental compost pile to control pile exposed in cold air. Some results obtained from the experiment during composting of cow feces mixed with bulking agent provide a possibility of active composting of organic matters in cold season. The biodegradation ratios of organic matter during composting in four types of composts were 10.2% for the rice straw, 7.7% for the rice hull, 6.4% for the sawdust and 4.3% for the control. The highest temperatures of compost piles during composting period were 76$^{\circ}C$ in sawdust, 80$^{\circ}C$ in rice hull, 68$^{\circ}C$ in rice straw, 45$^{\circ}C$ in control. Moisture content, pH, C/N, volume of compost were decreased during composting period, but EC value was increased with ionization of organic molecular by fermentation.
The selective plugging strategy of Microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery (MEOR) involves the use of microbes that grow and produce exopolymeric substances, which block the high permeability zones of an oil reservoir, thus allowing the water to flow through the low permeability zones leading to increase in oil recovery. Bacillus licheniformis TT33, a hot water spring isolate, is facultatively anaerobic, halotolerant, and thermotolerant. It produces EPS as well as biosurfactant and has a biofilm-forming ability. The viscosity of its cell-free supernatant is $120\;mPa{\cdot}s$ at $28^{\circ}C$. Its purified EPS contained 26% carbohydrate and 3% protein. Its biosurfactant reduced the surface tension of water from 72 to 34 mN/m. This strain gave $27.7{\pm}3.5%$ oil recovery in a sand pack column. Environmental scanning electron microscopy analysis showed bacterial growth and biofilm formation in the sand pack. Biochemical tests and Amplified Ribosomal DNA Restriction Analysis confirmed that the oil recovery obtained in the sand pack column was due to Bacillus licheniformis TT33.
The low velocity body was detected during the invesfigation of the crustal structune and upper mantle in the Korean Peninsula using ray method and observational seismic data. We observed the arrival time delays of P and S waves that pass through the Bugok hot spring area and the chugaryong rift zone in the Korean Peninsula. The present geothermal exploration accounts for the high heat flow in these regions, suggesting that the area are the 'delay shadows' produced by a deep, low velocity body(Resenberg et aL, 1980). We tried to verify the hypothesis that the low-velocity body is caused by the partial melting in the lower crust can be explained by the lateral variation(inhomogeneous model) of the lower crust velocity using Ray Method(Cerveny and Psencik, 1983).

A metagenomic library was constructed using a fosmid vector, and total genomic DNA was extracted directly from soil at Cisolok (hot spring area, Indonesia). This library was composed of 10,214 clones and screened for lipolytic enzyme on tributyrin agar plates. An esterase gene (estMa) was subcloned and sequenced from a positive lipolytic active clone. Esterase EstMa was encoded by a 954-bp open reading frame and showed low ($11-33\%$) amino acid similarity to known esterases. The amino acid sequence analysis demonstrated that the enzyme is a new member of lipolytic enzyme family VI. The estMa gene encodes a preprotein of 317 amino acids with a predicted molecular mass of 34,799 Da. The purified enzyme exhibited optimal activity at $50^{\circ}C$ and pH 6.5. The $K_m,\;and\;V_{max}$ values of EstMa for the hydrolysis of p-nitrophenyl valerate were $45.3\;{\mu}M$ and 4.45 U/mg, respectively.
Contrary to most of European and American investigators failed to find out the seasonal variations of basal metabolic rate in man, Japanese and Korean investigators reported the increase in winter, decrease in summer season. But the causes of variation were not found clearly. To find out whether metabolic acclimatization to climate could be arise or not in human being, the basal metabolic rate was determined monthly for a period of one year in Airmen volunteers who live in Seoul, with 9 l Collins spirometer. The results obtained were as follows: 1. The average ambient temperature was lowest in February $(-5.88^{\circ}C)$ and highest in July $(27.34^{\circ}C)$. 2. Basal metabolic rate was lowest in June and highest in December showing seasonal variations. Interestingly, the increase of basal metabolic rate followed after the drop of ambient temperature below $0^{\circ}C$ (December) and the decrease followed after the elevation of ambient temperature from optimum to hot (June) or cold to warm (March). 3, Mean skinfold thickness increased in spring, decreased in winter. 4. These findings indicate that the basal metabolic rate of Korean reveals the seasonal variation affected by ambient temperature highly.
We have analysed the observed surface and vertical meteorological data to get atmospheric information over the Busan metropolitan area. For this, we have selected 10 days in all season such as spring, summer I(Jangma season), summer II(hot season), autumn and winter. The result which have performed cluster analysis using atmospheric data represented that these days are included to most frequently appeared synoptic cluster. We have simulated wind field around Busan metropolitan area which is assigned as $1km^2$ using RAMS. The calculated air temperature and the wind speed was similar to the observed the that, and the trends of daily variation showed good agreement. RMSE and IOA also showed reliable value. These results indicated the RAMS is able to simulate and predict detailed atmospheric phenomenon.

Recently, the consuming efficiency of energy and natural resources has been a hot issue because of the continuous increasing of energy consumption and soaring of international oil prices. We tried to seek an action plan for the government's new paradigm 'Low-Carbon, Green Growth' by consuming energy efficiently and improving in energy management based on ubiquitous IT technologies. In this study, the library survey method is adopted for this study and IP-USN(internet protocol based ubiquitous sensor network) is considered as a core technology among various ubiquitous IT technologies. The purpose of this study is to deliver a method of energy management through integrating the context information gathered from sensors with digital space models and visualizing them together. The details are to survey the technologies of digital space modeling, USN based monitoring, building energy management and to integrate these technologies all together. This study will contribute to the enhancement of efficient building energy management by grasping the accurate situation of energy consuming in the building in realtime and minimizing unnecessary energy wastes.
