In this study, we investigate the effects of austempering heat treatment on the processing window and mechanical properties in cast and hot-rolled Fe-0.7 C-2.3 Si-0.3 Mn steel. Each specimens were austenitised at $900^{\circ}C$ for 7 min, and austempered at $260^{\circ}C,\;320^{\circ}C$, and $380^{\circ}C$ for the various periods of time from 2 min to 240 min. After heat treatment, the evaluation of stage I and stage II as performed by optical metallography, XRD, hardness test. Both cast and hot rolled specimens had similar processing window. So grain size effect is not important to the austempered high carbon high silicon cast steel. When the austempering temperature was $260^{\circ}C$, the microstructure consisted of the lower ausferrite while the upper ausferrite structure was formed at $380^{\circ}C$. As the austempering temperature increases from 260 to $380^{\circ}C$, the strength and hardness decreased, elongaton and volume fraction of austenite increased. In addition, there was no change of mechanical properties between cast and hot-rolled specimens.
In this study, we developed a semi-analytical approach for the numerical analysis of residual stress in oxide scales formed on hot-rolled steels. The oxide scale, formed during the hot rolling process, experiences complex interactions due to thermal and mechanical influences, significantly affecting the material's integrity and performance. Our research focuses on integrating various stress components such as thermal stress, growth stress, and creep behavior to predict the residual stress within the oxide layer. The semi-analytical method combines analytical expressions for each stress component with numerical integration to account for their cumulative effects. Validation through instrumented indentation tests confirms the reliability of our model, which considers thermal expansion coefficient (CTE) differences, scale growth, and creep-induced stress relaxation. Our findings indicate that thermal stress resulting from CTE differences significantly impacts the overall residual stress, with growth stress contributing a compressive component during cooling, and creep behavior playing a minor role in stress relaxation. This comprehensive approach enhances the accuracy of residual stress prediction, facilitating the optimization of material design and processing conditions for hot-rolled steel products.

Fe-6.5 wt.% Si alloys are widely known to have excellent soft magnetic properties such as high magnetic flux density, low coercivity, and low core loss at high frequency. In this work, disc-shaped preforms are prepared by spark plasma sintering at 1223 K after inert gas atomization of Fe-6.5 wt.% Si powders. Fe-6.5 wt.% Si sheets are rolled by a powder hot-rolling process without cracking, and their microstructure and soft magnetic properties are investigated. The microstructure and magnetic properties (saturation magnetization and core loss) of the hot-rolled Fe-6.5 wt.% Si sheets are examined by scanning electron microscopy, electron backscatter diffraction, vibration sample magnetometry, and AC B-H analysis. The Fe-6.5 wt.% Si sheet rolled at a total reduction ratio of 80% exhibits good soft magnetic properties such as a saturation magnetization of 1.74 T and core loss ($W_{5/1000}$) of 30.7 W/kg. This result is caused by an increase in the electrical resistivity resulting from an increased particle boundary density and the oxide layers between the primary particle boundaries.

A high precision hot strip width control method has been developed in this study by applying interstand looper tension measuring system at finishing mill stands. As with deviation of hot rolled steel strip is closely related to abnormal increase in the interstand strip tension, on-line measuring device of looped tension and data analyzing system was developed in this study. To determine dominant factors that will cause local width shortage, the logged data sets of bar width, bar thickness, looper tension, and strip thickness along the strip length were correlated with the data set of strip width change. With the result of the correlation analysis, existing sequence control logic and parameters for looper actuator were modified for strip width quality and the gains of the looper control were refined for the stable operation during the full passage of rolled strip. The on-line tension measurement and tension feedback control for looper system improved strip travelling stability and reduced strip width deviation in the srip top end region.
On the contrary to the increasing needs of shape qualities, most of quality inspections are carried out by manual or operator's insight. To find the causes of shape inferiority, it is required to gather and analyze the shape measurement data. As a result the winding profile measurement system ($TELE-SCANNER^{(R)}$) is developed to analyze the coiling process and automate the manual measuring process for winding profile of hot-rolled coils. The winding profile measurement system measures and analyzes winding profile shapes of hot-rolled coils, and classifies them into several dominant patterns that are related to normal or abnormal mechanical conditions of down-coiler. The system also contains analysis software to quantify the winding profile shapes and patterns, and to produce statistics to help search the causes of profile shape inferiority.
In this study, cold-rolling and appropriate annealing was adopted for the grain refining of Cu-26.65Zn-4. 05Al-0.31Ti(wt%) shape memory alloy. For the cold deformation of this alloy the ducti1e $\alpha$-phase must be contained. After heat treatment at $550^{\circ}C$ the $(\alpha+$\beta)$-dual phase with 40vol.% $\alpha$-phase was obtained which could be rolled at room temperature. This alloy was cold rolled into a final thickness of 1.0mm with total reduction degrees of 70% and 90%. The rolled sheets were betanized at $800^{\circ}C$ for various times, then quenched into ice water. The grain size of co]d rolled samples were $60~80\mu\textrm{m}$ which is much smaller comparing with the hot-rolled samples. And the 90% rolled sample showed smaller grain size than the case of the 70% rolled one. The small grain size had influence on the phase transformation temperatures and stabilization of the austenitic phases.
The efforts which increase the strength of the auto-body structure and decrease its weight lead to develop a new concept of part production systems, such as Post-Form Strengthening by induction heat treatment. In this study, several cold and hot-rolled sheet steels were used to find out optimum induction heat treatment conditions. After induction heat treatment, strength of heat-treated sheet steels was increased significantly compared with that of as-rolled steels. From these results, auto-body structure which has more light and safe has been made by using this induction hardening method.
Point bending is often used for cambering and curving structural steel girders. An analytical solution, applicable in the elasto-plastic range only, that relates applied loads to the desired curve was recently developed for inducing horizontal curves using four-point bending. This solution does not account for initial residual stresses and geometric imperfections built-in hot-rolled sections. This paper presents results from a full-scale test on a hot-rolled steel section curved using four-point bending. In parallel, a numerical analysis, accounting for both initial geometric imperfections and initial residual stresses, was carried out. The models were validated against the experimental results and a good agreement for lateral offset and for strain in the elasto-plastic and post-plastic ranges was achieved. The results show that the effect of initial residual stresses on deformation and strain is minimal. Finally, residual stresses due to cold bending calculated from the numerical analysis were assessed and a revised stress value for the service load design of the curved girder is proposed.
The hot cracking phenomena and phase behaviors during hot working process of Cu-Ni bearing hot rolled steels were investigated by a $90^{\circ}$bending tests, BSE image analysis and EDS analysis. For aNi-free 1.2% Cu bearing steel, the surface hot cracking occurred about $1100^{\circ}C$ due to a liquid state Cu-enriched phase formed continuously at the interface between oxide scale and matrix. The liquid Cu-enriched phase penetrated into austenite grain boundaries and caused surface cracking during the hot working. In case of 0.6% Ni containing 1.2% Cu-Ni bearing steel, solid state Cu-Ni-riched phase existed at the scale/matrix interface as a discontinuous type. But the higher addition of 1.2% Ni, solid state Ni-Cu-riched phase was formed dominantly in the oxide scale. It was found that the addition of Ni suppressed the surface cracking of 1.2% Cu bearing steel by eliminating the liquid state Cu-enriched phase.
