Limits Considering the Deformation Characteristics of Tailor Rolled Blank during Hot Stamping (핫스탬핑 공정에서 Tailor Rolled Blank 의 성형 특성을 고려한 성형한계 예측)

  • The current study aims to predict the forming limits considering the deformation characteristics of tailor rolled blank(TRB) during hot stamping. The formability of TRB is affected by the TRB line orientation because elongations change due to the intrinsic geometry within the sheet. To evaluate the forming limits, Nakazima tests were conducted at elevated temperatures with different TRB line orientations. Forming limit diagrams(FLD) of TRB can be predicted by an interpolating equation based on the Nakazima test. Predicted FLDs were used in FE-simulations of a rectangular drawing. The predicted limit drawing height was compared with experimental results. The simulation results show good agreement with the experimental ones with an error range of 3%.

  • The mechanical properties of a hot rolled steel is mostly governed by a cooling control on the run out table. During the cooling control, the hot rotted steel performs a metallurgical transformation(austenite ${\to}$ ferrite) which can be measured with a magnetic flux detector. The magnetic flux detector consisting of exciting and detecting coil can estimates the metallurgical transformation by measuring the variation of permeability in steel. We developed the method of detecting the magnetic property of hot rolled steel and processing the measured signal, Which makes possible to measure on-line metallurgical transformation.

Texture and Plastic Strain Ratio Changes of Hot Asymmetrically Rolled AA1050 Al Sheet (열간 비대칭 압연한 AA1050 Al 판재의 집합조직과 소성변형비 변화)

  • The plastic strain ratio is one of the factors of the deep drawability of metal sheets. The plastic strain ratio of Al sheet is low value. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the plastic strain ratio in order to improve the deep drawability of the Al sheet. This study investigated the increase in the plastic strain ratio and the texture change of AA1050 Al sheet after the hot asymmetric rolling. The average plastic strain ratio of initial AA1050 Al sheets was 0.41. After 84% hot asymmetric rolling at $400^{\circ}C$, the average plastic strain ratio was 0.77. The average plastic strain ratio of 84% hot asymmetrically rolled AA1050 Al sheet at $400^{\circ}C$ is 1.9 times higher than that of initial AA1050 Al sheet. The ${\mid}{\Delta}R{\mid}$ of 84% hot asymmetrically rolled AA1050 Al sheet at $400^{\circ}C$ is 1/2 times lower than that of initial AA1050 Al sheet. This result is due to the development of the intensity of the ${\gamma}-fiber$ texture and the decrease of the intensity of {001}<100> texture after the hot asymmetric rolling of AA1050 Al sheet.

  • The plastic strain ratio is one of the factors of the deep drawability of metal sheets. The plastic strain ratio of Al sheet is low value. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the plastic strain ratio in order to improve the deep draw ability of the Al sheet. This study investigated the increase of the plastic strain ratio and the texture change of AA3003 sheet after the hot asymmetric rolling. The average plastic strain ratio of the initial AA3003 sheets was 0.69. After 83% hot asymmetric rolling at $200^{\circ}C$, the average plastic strain ratio was 0.83. The average plastic strain ratio of the 83% hot asymmetrically rolled AA3003 sheet at $200^{\circ}C$ is 1.2 times higher than that of the initial AA3003 sheet. The ${\mid}{\Delta}R{\mid}$ of 83% hot asymmetrically rolled AA3003 sheet at $200^{\circ}C$ is 0.83 times lower than that of the initial AA3003 sheet. This result is due to the development of the intensity of ${\gamma}-fiber$ texture and reduces the intensity of {001}<110> and {001}<100> textures after hot asymmetric rolling of AA3003 sheet.

  • One of the most important quality problems in flat plate leveled from hot rolled coils in cut-to-Iength lines is bowing and cambering when they are cut in small width parts. It is verified analytically and experimentally that residual stress remained in plate is th ε source of the problem. In order to produce low residual stress flat plate from hot rolled coils, the proper conditions of leveling are studied and two things are implemented. One is proper plastic deformation area ratio to reduce residual stress within customer requirement by applying suitable plastic deformation and maintain leveling load within structural strength limit of leveler. The other is maintaining uniform plastic deformation along the width of the plate during leveling. Customer requirement for residual stress is met by applying above 70% of plastic deformation area ratio and uniform deformation along width of coil by adjusting back up rolls according to deformation analysis of work roll and back up roll assembly and leveling tests.

Characterization of Surface Roughness and Inhomogeneity of Hot-Rolled Carbon Steels by Using Image Analysis Method and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy

  • The present work is concerned with characterization of surface roughness and inhomogeneity of four kinds of hot-rolled carbon steels in terms of the fractal dimension and the depression parameter by using image analysis method and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, respectively. From the analysis of the 3D AFM image, it is realized that all the hot-rolled steel surfaces show the self-affine fractal property. The values of the fractal dimension of the hot-rolled steels were determined by the analyses of the AFM images on the basis of both the perimeter-area method and the triangulation method. In addition, the Nyquist plots were found to be depressed from a perfect semicircle form. From the experimental findings, the changes in the values of the fractal dimension and the depression parameter with chemical composition have been discussed in terms of the change in the value of hardness of base steel.

A Study on High Temperature Deformation Behavior of Spray-Formed High Speed Steels (분무주조 고속도공구강의 고온변형 거동에 관한 연구)

  • In the present study, the mechanical behavior of the spray-formed high speed steel was investigated employing the internal variable theory of inelastic deformation. Special attention was focused on the effect of the microstructure evolution during the hot working process, such as the distribution of carbides to provide a basic database for the production condition of high speed steels with excellent properties. The billets of high speed steel ASP30TM were fabricated by a spray forming, and the subsequently hot-rolled and heat-treated process to obtain uniformly distributed carbide structure. As noted the spray-formed high speed steel showed relatively coarser carbides than hot-rolled and heat-treated one with fine and uniformly distributed carbide structure. The step strain rate tests and high temperature tensile tests were carried out on both the spray-formed and the hot-rolled specimens, to elucidate their high temperature deformation behavior. The spray-formed high speed steel showed much higher flow stress and lower elongation than the hot-rolled and heat-treated steel. During the tensile test at $900^{\circ}C$, the interruption of the deformation for 100 seconds was conducted to reveal that the recovery was a main dynamic deformation mechanism of spray formed high speed steel. The internal variable theory of the inelastic deformation was used to analyze data from the step strain rate tests, revealing that the activation energies for hot deformation of as-spray-formed and hot-worked steels, which were 157.1 and 278.9 kJ/mol, and which were corresponding to the dislocation core and lattice diffusions of ${\gamma}-Fe$, respectively.

Through-Thickness Variation of Strain and Microstructure of AA1050 Processed by High Speed Hot Rolling (고속열간압연가공된 AA1050의 두께방향으로의 변형량 및 미세조직 변화)

  • The through-thickness variations of strain and microstructure of high-speed hot rolled 1050 pure aluminum sheet were investigated. The specimens of 1050 aluminum were rolled at temperatures ranging from 410 to $560^{\circ}C$ at a rolling speed of 15 m/s without lubrication and quenched in water at an interval of 30ms after rolling. The redundant shear strain induced by high friction between rolls and the aluminum sheet was increased largely beneath the surface at a rolling reduction above 50%. Recrystallization occurred in the surface regions of the specimen rolled to reduction of 65% at $510^{\circ}C$, while only recovery occurred in the other regions.

  • For application of advanced high strength hot-rolled steels (i.e. DP590, DP780) to automotive lightweight chassis parts, various technologies from design to forming test, optimization of welding condition and investigation of coating properties were tried. The target part of this study was automotive rear sub frame and we could make $16.8\%$ weight reduction by reducing the material thickness and optimizing the design. In addition, the formability and weldability of the newly developed AHSS, DP780, were evaluated.
