기업책임경영(RBC)의 국제입법동향과 정책적 시사점 (International Legislative Trends on Responsible Business Conduct (RBC) and its Implications on Policy)

  • As Multi-National Enterprises expanded their investments to foreign countries, numerous controversies and disputes arose from their negative impacts, such as violations of human rights and damage to the environment of the host countries. In response, International Organizations such as the OECD have considered various ways to prevent these negative impacts and search for more efficient dispute resolution methods. It is recognized that the OECD Guideline is one of the tools they created for this purpose. The OECD Guideline is contrastable from Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives which are regarded as a corporation's charity activities apart from their core business functions. However, Responsible Business Conduct (RBC) like the OECD Guideline can be understood as a concept moving forward from CSR, due to its requirements that corporations carry out their duties in a responsible manner within the field of their core business, such as tax, global supply chain or consumer protection. RBC which is binding in nature, has even been implemented through legislation in developed countries such as the USA, France, Switzerland, and the UK. The discussion in Korea, however, has not reached that level. Discussions for legislation center singularly on CSR efforts, with a dialogue only recently forming around the topic of legislation concerning RBC. Small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) who lack certain financial and other resources to adequately develop RBC initiatives may find this more obstacles to implementation through legislated RBC, than if it were presented in Korea through other means. It's necessary to admit that RBC is a critical issue in international business. However, time is required to consider its application directly to SMEs.

Isolation and Characterization of a Type II Peroxiredoxin Gene from Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer

  • A peroxiredoxin cDNA (PgPrx) was isolated and characterized from the leaves of Panax ginseng. The cDNA is 716 nucleotides long and has an open reading frame of 489 base pairs with a deduced amino acid sequence of 162 residues. The calculated molecular mass of the mature protein is approximately 17.4 kDa with a predicted isoelectric point of 5.37. A GenBank BlastX search revealed that the deduced amino acid sequence of PgPrx shares a high degree homology with type II peroxiredoxin (Prx) proteins in other plants. The PgPrx gene was highly expressed in leaves, and expressed at a low level in the stem. To analyze the gene expression of PgPrx in response to various abiotic stresses, we utilized real-time quantitative RT-PCR. Our results reveal that PgPrx expression is induced by ultraviolet irradiation, low temperature, and salt. The induction of PgPrx in response to abiotic stimuli suggests that ginseng Prx may function to protect the host against environmental stresses.

Phylogenetic Analysis of Caterpillar Fungi by Comparing ITS 1-5.8S-ITS 2 Ribosomal DNA Sequences

  • This study was carried out to identify the phylogenetic relationships among several caterpillar fungi by comparing the sequences of internal transcribed spacer regions(ITS1 and ITS2) and 5.8S ribosomal DNA(rDNA) repeat unit. The sequences of ITS1, ITS2, and the 5.8S rDNA from 10 strains of Cordyceps species, 12 strains of Paecilomyces, 3 strains of Beauveria, 2 strains of Metarhizium and 1 strains of Hirsutella were amplified, determined and compared with the previously known Cordyceps species. The sequences of 5.8S rDNA were more conserved in length and variation than those of ITS regions. Although the variable ITS sequences were often ambiguously aligned, the conserved sites could be found. In the phylogenetic tree, the species generally divided into three clusters, supported by their morphology and/or host ranges. The 5.8S rDNA and TTS1 sequences among 10 species of Cordyceps militaris were identical and only one base pair in ITS2 sequence was different. Cordyceps sinensis and Cordyceps ophioglossoides were also clearly different, although they belonged to the same cluster. The Geniank database search of species revealed sister taxa of an entomogenous fungus. Metarhizium was used as an putgroup in all taxa.

포도원에 발생하는 이슬애매미충과 이마점애매미충의 생태적 특징 (Ecological Characteristics of Arboridia kakogawana and Arboridia maculifrons (Auchenorrhyncha : Cicadellidae) Occurring on Vineyards)

  • 충북지역을 중심으로 이슬애매미충과 이마점애매미충의 발생생태 및 기주식물을 조사한 결과, 이들은 5월 초순부터 포도원에 들어와서 포도 잎을 가해하기 시작하며, 대체로 6월 하순과 8월 중순 경에 높은 밀도를 보였다. 이후 이슬애매미충은 10월 초순부터 월동하기 적당한 수피를 찾아서 인근 숲으로 이동하였고, 이마점애매미충은 9월 하순부터 포도원 주변의 잡초로 이동하였다. 충청북도 5개군의 발생조사에서, 두 종 모두 옥천지역에서 많이 발생하였다. 발육기간은 이마점애매미충이 이슬애매미충보다 짧았다.

Is aromatherapy associated with patient's dental anxiety levels? A systematic review and meta-analysis

  • The use of aromatherapy for the reduction of anxiety levels during dental treatment procedures has been well established in the literature; however, there is limited evidence regarding its efficacy. The present meta-analysis is an attempt to assess the association between the use of aromatherapy and anxiety levels among dental patients. A comprehensive search was conducted across Medline, Scopus, Web of Science, EBSCO host, Cochrane databases, and Google Scholar for studies evaluating aromatherapy and anxiety level among dental patients. PRISMA guidelines were followed for the meta-analysis. Randomized and cluster-randomized trials comparing aromatherapy with controls were included. The random-effects model was used to assess the mean differences in anxiety levels of patients visiting dental OPD. The significance value was set at P < 0.05. Six studies were identified that met the requirements for inclusion. Aromatherapy was significantly associated with reduction in patient anxiety levels during dental treatment (pooled mean difference: -3.36 [95% CI, -3.77 - -2.95, P = 0.00001). Low heterogeneity was noted between studies (I2 = 1%, P = 0.41) analyzed in the meta-analysis. High certainty of the evidence was obtained from the association between the use of aromatherapy and dental anxiety. This meta-analysis suggests that aromatherapy is effective in reducing dental anxiety. When used judiciously, the results of this work should encourage the use of aromatherapy to reduce patient anxiety levels during dental procedures

Mining and analysis of microsatellites in human coronavirus genomes using the in-house built Java pipeline

  • Microsatellites or simple sequence repeats are motifs of 1 to 6 nucleotides in length present in both coding and non-coding regions of DNA. These are found widely distributed in the whole genome of prokaryotes, eukaryotes, bacteria, and viruses and are used as molecular markers in studying DNA variations, gene regulation, genetic diversity and evolutionary studies, etc. However, in vitro microsatellite identification proves to be time-consuming and expensive. Therefore, the present research has been focused on using an in-house built java pipeline to identify, analyse, design primers and find related statistics of perfect and compound microsatellites in the seven complete genome sequences of coronavirus, including the genome of coronavirus disease 2019, where the host is Homo sapiens. Based on search criteria among seven genomic sequences, it was revealed that the total number of perfect simple sequence repeats (SSRs) found to be in the range of 76 to 118 and compound SSRs from 01 to10, thus reflecting the low conversion of perfect simple sequence to compound repeats. Furthermore, the incidence of SSRs was insignificant but positively correlated with genome size (R2 = 0.45, p > 0.05), with simple sequence repeats relative abundance (R2 = 0.18, p > 0.05) and relative density (R2 = 0.23, p > 0.05). Dinucleotide repeats were the most abundant in the coding region of the genome, followed by tri, mono, and tetra. This comparative study would help us understand the evolutionary relationship, genetic diversity, and hypervariability in minimal time and cost.

국제스포츠이벤트의 유치 프로세스 분석 및 모델링 (Analysis and Modeling of Hosting Process in International Sports Events)

  • 국제스포츠이벤트는 스포츠산업의 핵심 상품 중 하나이다. 세계 여러 나라들은 올림픽과 같은 국제스포츠이벤트 유치를 위해 경쟁적으로 뛰어들고 있다. 국제스포츠이벤트 유치는 개최국과 도시에 다양한 유형의 발전을 가져다주는 것으로 기대하기 때문이다. 국제스포츠이벤트의 유치는 사회, 정치, 문화, 경제 등 다양한 시스템과 상호작용하고 있으며, 스포츠이벤트의 규모가 클수록 프로세스의 중요성은 증대되고 있다. 이 연구의 목적은 국제스포츠이벤트 유치단계의 프로세스를 분석하고 모델링하는데 있으며 이를 위해 유치과정의 기능을 구분하고, 이해관계자를 분석하였다. 유치과정에서의 업무 분석을 통해 (1)유치탐색, (2)유치신청, (3)유치실행, (4)사후관리라는 4가지의 핵심프로세스를 구성하였다. 4가지의 핵심프로세스는 다시 하위 프로세스로 구조화하여 모델링하였고, 모델링 방법으로는 IDEF 방법을 사용하였다. 이 연구에서 제시된 국제스포츠이벤트 유치 프로세스 모델은 유치 단계의 기능을 체계적으로 관리하는데 활용될 수 있다.

A bioinformatics approach to characterize a hypothetical protein Q6S8D9_SARS of SARS-CoV

  • Characterization as well as prediction of the secondary and tertiary structure of hypothetical proteins from their amino acid sequences uploaded in databases by in silico approach are the critical issues in computational biology. Severe acute respiratory syndrome-associated coronavirus (SARS-CoV), which is responsible for pneumonia alike diseases, possesses a wide range of proteins of which many are still uncharacterized. The current study was conducted to reveal the physicochemical characteristics and structures of an uncharacterized protein Q6S8D9_SARS of SARS-CoV. Following the common flowchart of characterizing a hypothetical protein, several sophisticated computerized tools e.g., ExPASy Protparam, CD Search, SOPMA, PSIPRED, HHpred, etc. were employed to discover the functions and structures of Q6S8D9_SARS. After delineating the secondary and tertiary structures of the protein, some quality evaluating tools e.g., PROCHECK, ProSA-web etc. were performed to assess the structures and later the active site was identified also by CASTp v.3.0. The protein contains more negatively charged residues than positively charged residues and a high aliphatic index value which make the protein more stable. The 2D and 3D structures modeled by several bioinformatics tools ensured that the proteins had domain in it which indicated it was functional protein having the ability to trouble host antiviral inflammatory cytokine and interferon production pathways. Moreover, active site was found in the protein where ligand could bind. The study was aimed to unveil the features and structures of an uncharacterized protein of SARS-CoV which can be a therapeutic target for development of vaccines against the virus. Further research are needed to accomplish the task.

A Search for Exoplanets around Northern Circumpolar Stars. VIII. Filtering Out a Planet Cycle from the Multi-Period Radial Velocity Variations in M Giant HD 36384

  • This paper is written as a follow-up observations to reinterpret the radial velocity (RV) of HD 36384, where the existence of planetary systems is known to be ambiguous. In giants, it is, in general, difficult to distinguish the signals of planetary companions from those of stellar activities. Thus, known exoplanetary giant hosts are relatively rare. We, for many years, have obtained RV data in evolved stars using the high-resolution, fiber-fed Bohyunsan Observatory Echelle Spectrograph (BOES) at the Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory (BOAO). Here, we report the results of RV variations in the M giant HD 36384. We have found two significant periods of 586 d and 490 d. Considering the orbital stability, it is impossible to have two planets at so close orbits. To determine the nature of the RV variability variations, we analyze the HIPPARCOS photometric data, some indicators of stellar activities, and line profiles. A significant period of 580 d was revealed in the HIPPARCOS photometry. Hα EW variations also show a meaningful period of 582 d. Thus, the period of 586 d may be closely related to the rotational modulations and/or stellar pulsations. On the other hand, the other significant period of 490 d is interpreted as the result of the orbiting companion. Our orbital fit suggests that the companion was a planetary mass of 6.6 MJ and is located at 1.3 AU from the host.

컴퓨터 모니터에 제시된 표적의 탐색과 선택과정에 관한 연구 (A study on the search and selection processes of targets presented on the CRT display)

  • 컴퓨터 모니터에 제시되는 표적의 물리적 특성(표적의 크기, 표적까지의 거리, 표적의 방향, 주변자극들의 조밀도 등)이 입력도구에 따라서 표적의 탐색과 선택반응의 정확성과 반응시간에 미치는 영향을 밝히고자 하였다. 실험 1에서는 단순 표적이 현재의 커서위치로부터 방향과 거리를 달리하여 제시되었을 때 마우스를 이용한 포인팅 반응을 분석하였다. 그 결과, (1) 과대이동(overshooting)의 비율이 정확이동이나 과소이동(undershooting)보다 높았다. (2) 이러한 경향은 상하 혹은 좌우의 정방향보다는 사각방향으로 이동할 때 그리고 표적이 멀리 있을수록 증가하였다. (3) 과대/과소이동의 빈도는 사각에서 현저하였으나, 그 정도는 오히려 정방향에서 더 컸다. (4) 전체 수행과정을 계획, 이동, 조정, 반응수행단계로 구분할 때, 반응시간의 결정요인은 표적까기 마우스를 이동하는 단계였다. 실험 2에서는 실제 단어를 표적으로 사용하여 표적의 방향과 거리뿐만 아니라 표적의 크기와 방해자극들의 조밀도 수준을 체계적으로 변화시켰을 때, 키보드와 마우스에 의한 표적 선택시간을 분석하였다. 표적의 크기로는 한글 96의 글자크기 10, 12, 14를 사용하고, 자극들의 조밀도는 줄간격 100, 150 200%를 사용하였다. 그 결과, (1) 전반적으로는 키보드에 비해 마우스를 이용한 선택 반응시간이 짧았지만 커서를 상하 또는 좌우로만 이동하는 조건에서는 오히려 키보드의 반응시간이 더 짧았다. (3) 줄간격이 조밀하고(100%) 표적의 크기가 작을 때(10) 반응시간이 가장 길었다. (4) 키보드의 경우에는 줄간격 150% 조건에서 반응시간이 가장 짧은 반면, 마우스의 경우에는 줄간격이 커짐에 따라 반응시간이 증가하는 경향이 있었다. 마지막으로, 이 연구의 결과가 시사하는 입력도구의 특성과 표적의 물리적 특성간의 상호 관련성이 시스템의 설계에 어떻게 적용될 수 있는지 논의되었다.=-0.71435*)이었으나, 괴경중 총당 함량과는 정의 상관(r=0.78018*)을 보였다. 이러한 결과는 해충종합방제 프로그램을 확립하고 또한 새로운 내충성 품종의 육성에 기초자료가 될 것으로 생각된다.복현상에 대한 해석이 이루어져야 하겠다. 유의하게 높았으며, 남자노인보다는 여자노인이 식품섭취에 계절에 의한 영향을 더욱 더 많이 받는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 장수 노인들은 가공식품보다는 계절마다 제철에 생산 되는 자연 식품의 섭취비율이 높았다. 전반적으로 장수노인들은 소식의 경향을 보였으며 이 와 같은 소식습관과 신선한 식물성 식품들의 일상 섭취가 건강한 장수에 영향을 미쳤을 가 능성도 있을 것으로 사료된다.며, 지방 조직내 지방축적에 영향을 미친다는 것을 말해 준다.에서 하는 부모교육과 반상회의 홍보자료에 반상회의 홍보자료에 반드시환경친화적 음식소비행동에 관한 교육이 포함되어야 한다. 조리사의 경우 정기교육과정에 환경친화적 음식소비행동에 관한 홍보를 함께 함으로써 외식이나 단체급식에서 발행하는 음식물 쓰레기의 양을 줄 일 수 있을 것이다.m its genes controlling host specificity to its population sturctures and dynamics, have begun to provide new insights into the potential mechanisms underlying race variation.
