The heat transfer characteristics of refrigerant-oil mixture for horizontal in-tube evaporator have been investigated experimentally. A smooth copper tube and a micro-fin tube with nominal 9.5 mm outer diameter and 1500 mm length were tested. For the pure refrigerant flow, the dependence of the axial heat transfer coefficient on quality was weak in the smooth tube, but in the micro-fin tube, the coefficients were 3 to 10 times greater as quality increases. Oil addition to pure refrigerant in the smooth tube altered the flow pattern dramatically at low mass fluxes, with a resultant enhancement of the wetting area by vigorous foaming. The heat transfer coefficients of the mixture for low and medium qualities were increased at low mass fluxes. In the micro-fin tube, however, the addition of oil deteriorates the local heat transfer performance for most of the quality range, except for low quality. The micro-fin tube consequently loses its advantage of high heat transfer performance for an oil fraction of 5%. Results are presented as plots of local heat transfer coefficient versus quality.
Experiments to measure the pool boiling heat transfer on the micro-fin surfaces were performed with PF5060. The effects of various orientation and subcooling of heat surface on pool boiling performance were investigated under various heat-flux conditions for plain and micro-fin surfaces. The comparison between the results of this study and those of previous work shows a similar trend at the same conditions. From the results, it is proved that nucleate boiling performance is strongly dependent on the orientation, the micro-fin structure and the subcooling of heat surface. The heat flux on the surface with orientation angles of $45^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$ was larger than that on horizontal surface(${\theta}=0^{\circ}$) at same wall superheat because of the effect of bubble sweeping. The nucleate boiling performance of micro-fin surfaces is enhanced by decreasing the fin size(WxL) and the pitch, respectively. The subcooling makes nucleate boiling performance lower for both micro-fin and plain surfaces.

Since the heat generation in a chip increases as the components are miniaturized and the computing speed becomes faster, suitable heat dissipation has become one of the primary limiting factors to ensure the reliable operation of the electronic devices. A pin-fin array could be used as an alterative cooling system of the electronic equipment. In this study, convective heat transfer through the pin-fin array is analyzed experimentally based on porous medium approach. The influence of the structure of the pin-fin array including the pin-fin spacing, the pin diameter and plate length on heat transfer characteristics is investigated and compared with the previous analytical results and existing correlation equations. Nowadays, electronic and mechanical devices become smaller and smaller. In this sense, the main purpose of this study is to decide the optimum pin-fin arrangement to get similar heat transfer performance when the length of the existing cooling system is reduced as a half.
In this study, the heat transfer process around the finned channel tubes is numerically examined. Serially arranged tubes of an evaporator were used for heat exchange. The numerical analysis results confirmed that the vortex generated at the rear of the channel pipe was caused by the fin. Furthermore, it was also confirmed that the temperature difference was large between the inlet and outlet ends of the fin. The temperature of the location where the fin was attached to the channel pipe was found to be close to the surface temperature of the channel wall. However, the temperature rose rapidly closer to the ambient air temperature of 350 K towards the fin end, located at a distance of 0.035 m; it was found to have a significant influence on the heat transfer around the fin-attached channel tube. The wider the vertical flow path, the lower the total heat transfer coefficient. However, the overall heat transfer coefficient increased as the horizontal flow path narrowed. The increment is attributed to an increase in the heat transfer amount due to increased heat transfer surface.

A fin of finite width with infinitely small thickness is assumed to be placed horizontally between two horizontal parallel plates of infinite extension in the exactly central position. The lower plate and the half of the upper plate are kept at a constant lower temperature, and the remaining upper plate is kept at a constant higher temperature. The fin is also kept at a constant temperature (variable). Steady-state two-dimensional laminar natural convection is analyzed as a problem of boundary value under a boundary-fitted conformal mapping system, using a spectral finite difference scheme, with a condition of doubly-connectedness. The steady-state solution is obtained as a limit of the transient solution.
We proposed 50W-LED modules of using Heat-pipe and Stack-fin and produced LED modules was evaluated heat dissipation characteristics with comparison of the conventional die-casting type. It verified the application of products by applying it to 150W-LED road luminaires through simulation. The LED module was measures aimed design temperature of the Stack-fin and showed 26% upward heat dissipation effect than a conventional die-casting type. The luminous efficacy of 150W-LED road luminaires using this LED module reached over 112lm/W, and the simulation results showed average of horizontal luminance, overall luminance uniformity($U_O$) and lane luminance uniformity($U_I$) that is suitable for five-lane road with the KS standards.
In this study, external condensation heat transfer coefficients (HTCs) of flammable refrigerants of propylene, propane, isobutane, butane, DME, and HFC32 were measured on a horizontal plain tube, 26 fpi low fin tube, and Turbo-C tube. All data were taken at the temperature of 39$^{\circ}C$ with a wall subcooling of 3∼8$^{\circ}C$. Test results showed a typical trend that condensation HTCs of flammable refrigerants decrease with increasing wall subcooling. HFC32 had the highest HTCs among the tested refrigerants showing 44% higher HTCs than those of HCFC22 while DME showed 28% higher HTCs than those of HCFC22. HTCs of propylene and butane were similar to those of HCFC22 while those of propane and isobutane were similar to those of HFC134a. Based upon the tested data, Nusselt's equation is modified to predict the plain tube data within a deviation of 3%. For 26 fpi low fin tube, Beatty and Katz equation predicted the data within a deviation of 7.3% for all flammable refrigerants tested. The heat transfer enhancement factors for the 26 fpi low fin and Turbo-C tubes were 4.6∼5.7 and 4.7∼6.9 respectively for the refrigerants tested indicating that the performance of Turbo-C tube is the best among the tubes tested.
This paper reports the experimental results on heat transfer characteristics of R-22 and R-407C(HFC-32/125/134a 23/25/52 wt%) condensing inside horizontal smooth and finned tubes. The test condensers used In the study are double pipe heat exchangers of 7.5 mm ID, 9.5 mm OD smooth tube, and 60 finned micro-fin tube with 8.53 mm ID, 9.53 mm OD. Each of these tubes was 4 000 mm long tubes connected with an U-bend. These U type two-path test tubes are divided In 8 local test sections for the identification of the local condensing heat transfer characterisitcs and pressure drop, U-bend effects on condensing flows. Inlet quality is maintained 1.0, and refrigerant mass velocity is varied from 102.0 to $301.0kg/m^2{\cdot}s$. From the results, it was found that the pressure drop of the R-407C Increased, and heat transfer coefficient decreased compared to those of R-22. In comparison condensing heat transfer characteristics of micro-fm tube with those of smooth tube, increasing of condensing heat transfer coefficient was found outstanding compared to the increasing ratio of pressure drop. Furthermore, pressure drop In U-bend showed at most a 30 % compared to the total pressure drop in the test section.

Evaporation heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops were measured for smooth and micro-fin tubes with R-22 and R-410A. Heat transfer measurements were performed for 3.0m long horizontal tubes with nominal outside diameters of 9.52 and 7.0mm over an evaporating temperature range of -15 to 5$\^{C}$, a mass flux range of 68 to 211kg/㎡s, and a heat flux range of 5 to 15kW/㎡. It was observed that the heat transfer coefficient increased with mass flux. Evaporation heat transfer coefficients of R-22 and R-410A increased as the evaporating temperature dropped at a lower heat flux. Generally, R-420A showed the higher heat transfer coefficients than R-22 in the range of low mass flux, high heat flux and high evaporating temperature. Pressure drop increased with a decrease of evaporating temperature and a rise of mass flux. Pressure drop of R-22 was higher than that of R-410A at the same mass flux.
