The surface settlement of the back ground of a braced wall due to the ground excavation has the great influence on the safety of the surrounding area. But it is not easy to predict the settlement of the surrounding area due to proud excavation. Estimation of the settlement of the surface ground induced by the deformation of the braced wall is performed by FEM and empirical method (Peck, Clough etc). In this research, surface settlement of the back ground braced wall depending on the joint dips in rocks during excavating the composit ground was measured at the large scale model test (standard: $0.3m{\times}0.3m{\times}0.5m$). The scale of model test was 1/14.5 and the ground was excavated in ten steps. Earth pressure on the braced wall and ground surface settlement on the back ground of a braced wall were investigated. The surface settlement during the excavation depended on the joint dips in rocks on of the ratio of rock layer. Maximum earth pressure and maximum surface settlement were masured at the same excavation step. In accordance with the increase of the rock layer dips and rock layer ratio, the ground surface settlement increased. The maximum ground surface settlement was 17 times larger at 60 degree joint dips in rocks than that of the horizontal ground conditions. And the position of the maximum surface settlement by empirical method was calculated at the point, which was 17%~33% of excavation depth. In accordance with the increase of the rock layer dips and rock layer ratio, the ground maximum surface settlement increased. The ground surface settlement of composite ground is smaller than that of the empirical.

Purpose : To investigate the relationship between breathing pattern disorder and joint position error (JPE) in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP). Methods : Thirty nine patients with CLBP participated. End-tidal $CO_2$ and respiration rate (RR) were measured using a capnography. Breathing-hold time (BHT) and Nijmegen Questionnaire (NQ) were investigated. Thoracic excursion was measured with a cloth tape measurement technique. Joint position error were measured using a small laser point mounted on a lightweight headband. they were asked to relocate the head, after the neck movement on the horizontal plane. Pearson 's test was used for correlation analysis between respiratory variables and JPE in patients with CLBP. Independent t-test was used to verify the difference between thoracic and diaphragm breathing pattern in patients with CLBP. The significance level was set at 0.05. Results : There was a significant correlation between JPE (LR) and JPE (RR, EX) (r=.639, r=.813) (p<.001) and a low negative correlation with end-tidal $CO_2$ (r=-.357) (p<.05). There was a significant correlation between RR and JPE (EX) (r=.750) (p<.001). There was a low correlation between JPE (EX) and NQ (r=.333) (p<.05). There was a somewhat high negative correlation between NQ and thoracic excursion (r=-.528) (p<.001). There was a somewhat high negative correlation between thoracic excursion and JPE (LR, RR, EX) (r=-.470, r=-.484, r=-.602) (p<.001). There were no significant differences in the RR, BHT, NQ, and thoracic excursion between the thoracic and diaphragmatic breathing (p>.05). There was a significant difference in the JPE (EX), end - tidal $CO_2$, and VAS values between the thoracic and diaphragm breathing (p<.05). Conclusion : There was a correlation between JPE (EX) and NQ in patients with CLBP, and correlation between thoracic excursion and JPE (LR, RR, EX) and NQ. There was a significant difference in the JPE (EX), end-tidal $CO_2$ level, and VAS value in the comparison of thoracic breathing and diaphragm breathing. The results showed that breathing patterns and JPE were related to each other.
In this study, we analyze the structure of the Korea-Japan Joint Development Zone (JDZ) using gravity, magnetic, and seismic data. Gravity and magnetic data analysis confirmed that the Jeju Basin exhibits low anomalies compared to adjacent areas. We applied the total gradient to the Bouguer anomaly to identify basin boundaries, and computed the analytic signal from the total magnetic anomaly data to enhance the edges of the magnetic anomalies. The Taiwan-Sinzi Belt, exhibits high magnetic anomalies and crosses the center of the JDZ in the northeast-southwest direction; we presume that intrusive rocks are sporadic in the JDZ. The 3D inversion results of the gravity and magnetic data show a strong correlation between magnetic susceptibility and density (i.e. a low-density zone in the Jeju Basin and the Ho Basin, and a high magnetic susceptibility distribution in the Taiwan-Sinzi Belt). Comparison of the density and seismic profiles of the Jeju Basin shows that high densities are associated with sill, horst, and basement highs, whereas low densities are associated with basement low and grabens. These results suggest that interpretations based on seismic, gravity and magnetic data can effectively reveal the subsurface structure of the JDZ.
Objectives : To evaluate the findings useful for differential diagnosis and associated abnormaiities of isthmic spondylolisthesis and degenerative spondylolisthesis on CT. Materials and methods : We reviewed retrospectively the CT images of 65 patients who were diagnosed spondylolisthesis during 3 years period. Our technique was 5mm slices at 5mm intervals with gantry angle to parallel the interspaces. Also reformatted sagittal views were taken. 41 patients were isthmic spondylolisthesis and 24 patients were degenerative spondylolisthesis. Resuits : Isthmic spondylolisthesis. 1. Isthmic type was more common at L5-S1. 2. The degree of anterior displacement was grade I and II. 3. The plane of defect was more horizontal than the usual facet joint. 4. The defect had an irregular shape. 5. Medial aspect of bone just anterior to defect had a small round prominence. 6. Anteroposterior elongation of the spinal canal was common. 7. Pseudobulging disk was common. 8. The most common associated abnormality was a HNP at the upper level of the defect. Degenerative spondylolisthesis. 1. Degenerative type was more common at L4-5. 2. The degree of anterior disptacement was grade I and II. 3. The Plane of facet joint was oriented obliquely instead of horizontally. 4. The posterior facet(inferior facet of superior vertebra) was anteriorly displaced. 5. Bony spur of the posterior portion of anterior facet was seen. 6. The facet joints often contain gas(vaccum phenomenum). 7. The most common associated abnormality was a HNP at the level of the displacement. Conclusions : CT is a highly accurate and most sensitive technique for recognition, differential diagnosis of isthmic and degenerative types and the detection of associated abnormalities.
PURPOSES : This paper numerically evaluates the contribution of transverse steel to the structural behavior of continuously reinforced concrete pavements to understand the role of transverse steel. METHODS : Two-lane continuously reinforced concrete pavements with and without transverse steel were analyzed through finite element analysis with the aid of commercial finite element analysis program DIANA; the difference in their structural behavior such as deflection, joint opening, and stress distribution was then evaluated. Twenty-node brick elements and three-node beam elements were used to model concrete and steel, respectively. Sub-layers were modeled with horizontal and vertical tensionless spring elements. The interactions between steel and surrounding concrete were considered by connecting their nodes with three orthogonal spring elements. Both wheel loading and environmental loading in addition to self-weight were considered. RESULTS : The use of transverse steel in continuously reinforced concrete pavements does not have significant effects on the structural behavior. The surface deflections change very little with the use of transverse steel. The joint opening decreases when transverse steel is used but the reduction is quite small. The transverse concrete stress, rather, increases when transverse steel is used due to the restraint exerted by the steel but the increase is quite small as well. CONCLUSIONS : The main role of transverse steel in continuously reinforced concrete pavements is supporting longitudinal steel and/or controlling unexpected longitudinal cracks rather than enhancing the structural capacity.
We investigated the weathering characteristics of On-Yang gneiss by means of geological survey and Ground Penetrating Radar(GPR). The results of geological survey and boring show the two sets of vertical joint and horizontal joint developed by foliation which is composed of salic and melanic layers. GPR section evidently shows foliation direction and differential weathering due to discontinuity and mineral composition of metamorphic rock. The GPR section for instantaneous phase attribute based on complex trace analysis evidently shows continuity and foliation direction of metamorphic rock. The strong reflection amplitude which is derived from the banded structure of weathered rock can be incorrectly interpreted as a reflection of bedrock. The depth of rock basement should be estimated from the overall exploration result such as boring, seismic method, and electrical resistivity method.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the difference between normal and malocclusion subjects in Temporomandibular joint. This study was based on the 44 subjects with normal occlusion, 30 subjects with Class II malocclusion, 30 subjects with Class III malocclusion before treatment. After submental vertex view analysis, each subject was given the TMJ Tomogram in centric relation and centric occlusion and the Cephalogram was taken with Quint Sectograph. The TMJ spaces were measured and analyzed statistically. Following results were obtained. 1. When centric relation was compared to centric occlusion, The condyles were positioned more posteriorly and superiorly in centric relation position of the normal occlusion group and the class II malocclusion group. In the Class III malocclusion group. There was no significant difference in the condylar position between centric occlusion and centric relation. 2. The condyles of the Class III malocclusion group were positioned more superiorly than the normal occlusion group and the Class II malocclusion group. 3. In the correlation between articular eminence posterior slope angle and lingual slope angle of the upper anterior central incisor, there was significant correlation in the normal occlusion group. But no significant correlation was found in the malocclusion group. 4. The mean value of the horizontal angulation of condylar head to the transear rod axis plane was $20.32^{\circ}{\pm}8.12^{\circ}$ in the normal occlusion group, $25.08^{\circ}{\pm}4.83^{\circ}$ in the class II malocclusion group, $14.68^{\circ}{\pm}4.08^{\circ}$ in the class III malocclusion group.
Purpose: This study analyzed the effects of digastric muscle injury on mandibular growth in young rats. Methods: Fourteen 4-week-old Wistar rats were divided into 3 groups; experimental group A (n=6) with unilateral (right) shortening of the posterior digastric muscle, experimental group B (n=6) with bilateral shortening of the posterior digastric muscles, and control group C (n=2) who underwent a sham operation. Eight weeks after the operation all animals were sacrificed and the outcomes were compared using body weight evaluation, mensurations on lateral radiograph of hemimandibles and histological evaluation. Results: There was no significant difference between groups A and B in body weight gain. Comparison of the mean values of hemimandible distance on radiograph was performed. The difference in group mean value of mandible-related distances was analyzed using the Wilcoxon test (rank sum test) and a comparison of the homonymous distances of group A and B was performed using the Mann-Whitney test. There were differences between sides in mandibular length in group B and mandibular ramus height and transverse width of the condyle in group A (all, p<0.05). There were differences in condylar height and mandibular length on the left side between groups A and B (p<0.05). Histologic examination of temporomandibular joint showed similar findings in all specimens. Conclusions: Injury of the posterior belly of the digastric muscle during the rat growth period induced shortening of mandibular ramus height and transverse width of the condyle. It can be inferred that trauma to the posterior belly of the digastric muscle affects horizontal and vertical growth of the mandible.

As increasing demand on marine structures and skyscrapers, a deep shaft pile is frequently to be used for the place having weak ground strength. Because heavy horizontal force is generally applied on upper part of pile foundation used in engineering field, steel pile is highly used due to its high resistance to shear force and bending moment, and its capability to carry heavy loads. The steel pile has advantage in good constructibility, high applicability on site and easy handing, but has disadvantage in cost, more expensive than other material pile. This study is to examine the composite pile that makes economical construction possible by reducing material cost of pile; using steel and PHC pile A non welding connection method is applied to this composite pile. This study had step of comparison with the result of numerical analysis after analyzing the result of field test. Numerical analysis is the process of analyzing lateral behavior of non welding composite pile. Moreover, detailed analysis was implemented in order to evaluate joint stability. As a result of the analysis, we could interpret that the stability of the connection part is ensured as seeing the smaller internal stress than approved internal stress. Based on this study, we analyzed lateral behavior of non welding composite pile, which ensured the stability of connection part.
The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for improving athletic performances by analyzing the kinematic variables of the Double Backward Somersault on the Parallel Bars through the 3D motion analysis. The subjects in this study were 5 male gymnasts who were ranked as national athletes. The results are as follows. 1. A total time(Mean Time) of performance showed $2.72{\pm}0.82\;sec$. and flight time to landing after releasing was 0.87sec.(mean). In order to perform better stable flying movement, the flight time should be increased. 2. In the change of velocity of the center of mass, when the increasing ascension velocity of the upper point was high, the position in the top point was high on releasing. 3. In the position variable of the center of mass, the mean of upper-bottom position in horizontal posture was $242.1{\pm}6.5cm$, $232.8{\pm}6.4cm$ in releasing, and $265.0{\pm}5.6cm$ in the highest point. This result is explained that the position of center of mass can be raised by using elastic power when wrist raised the bar in the releasing movement. 4. The angle of shoulder joint was $271.1{\pm}14.0$. Such a big angle influences a negative effect on the releasing velocity, because trunk is not a position in the enough vertical direction. 5. The ankle of hip joint in hand-standing was $191.1{\pm}5.9$, $118.8{\pm}5.3$ in releasing, and $122.3{\pm}5.3$ in taking on. Therefore, the result suggests that trunk should be straightly raised in taking on.
