  • In today's uncertain economic environment, economic risk is inherent in making large investments on manufacturing facilities. It is, therefore, practically meaningful to divide investment over multiple periods, reducing the risk of investment. Then, the cash-flow over the entire planning horizon would comprise positive inflow and negative outflow. In this case, in general, evaluation by internal rate of return (IRR) is not feasible, because multiple IRRs are involved. This paper deals with a problem of evaluating profitability, as well as risk, of investment alternatives made in multiple times of investment over the entire horizon. Typically, an additional investment is required after the initial one, for expanding manufacturing capacity or other reasons. The paper pays attention to a unit cash-flow over two periods, decomposing the total cash-flow into a series of unit cash-flow patterns. It is easy to evaluate profitability of a unit cash-flow by using IRR. The total cash-flow can be decomposed into the series of two types of unit cash-flows: an investment type one (negative-positive) and the borrowing type one (positive-negative). This paper, therefore, proposes a method in which only the borrowing type unit cash-flow is eliminated in the series by converting total cash-flow using capital interest rate. Then, a unique IRR can be obtained and the profitability is evaluated. Thus, the paper extends the method of IRR so that it may help decision making in complicated cash-flow pattern observed in practice.

  • Model Predictive Control(MPC) system uses the current input which minimizes the difference between the desired output and the estimated output in the receding horizon scheme. In many cases (for example, system with constraints or nonlinear system), however, it is not easy to find the optimal solution to the above problem. In this paper, we show that real number coding genetic algorithm can be used to solve the optimal problem for MPC effectively. Also, we show by simulation that the real coding algorithm is mote natural and advantageous than the digital coding one.

  • Soil samples were collected from new-developed wetland soil ecosystem of Tamarix chinesis plantation in Chinese Yellow River Delta in different months of 2003. Soil characteristics, temporal change and spatial distribution of microbial community composition and their relationship with nitrogen turnover and circling were investigated in order to analyze and characterize the role of microbial diversity and functioning in the specific soil ecosystem. The result showed that the total population of microbial community in the studied soil was considerably low, compared with common natural ecosystem. The amount of microorganism followed as the order: bacteria> actinomycetes>fungi. Amount of actinomycetes were higher by far than that of fungi. Microbial population remarkably varied in different months. Microbial population of three species in top horizon was corrected to that in deep horizon. Obvious rhizosphere effect was observed and microbial population was significantly higher in rhizosphere than other soils due to vegetation growth, root exudation, and cumulative dead fine roots. Our results demonstrate that microbial diversity is low, while is dominated by specific community in the wetland ecosystem of Tamarix chinesi.

  • This study determined the optimal positions of the movable steering wheel and pedal systems of industrial vehicle by various body dimensions. The position of objects and starting driving posture were measured by Martin-type anthropometer and goniometer. The X, Y and Z axis of movable steering wheel and pedal systems were measured horizon distance from right side to left side, horizon distance from front side to rear side and vertical distance from floor to ceiling. During the experiment in order to exclude learning effectiveness with forklift driving, 27 subjects who had male not experiences in driving a forklift used in the experiment. The relationship between the position of steering wheel and driver's posture with body dimensions was analyzed by using correlation relation and paired comparison t-test based on the measured data. The pedal location in X and Z axises was not related with various body dimensions. Also, the steering wheel was different among the angles of the right elbow and shoulder depending on the various body dimensions.

  • Recent Integral Field Spectroscopy (IFS) studies revealed that not only late type galaxies (LTGs) but also early type galaxies (ETGs) have various kinds of kinematic rotation. (e.g. not clearly detectable rotation, disk-like rotation, kinematically distinct core (Cappellari 06)) Among the various studies about galactic kinematics, one of the most notable anomalies is the star-gas misalignment. The gas forms stars and stars release gas through mass-loss. In this process, their angular momentum is conserved. Therefore, kinematic decoupling between stars and gas can occur due to external gas inflow or perturbation of components. There are some possible origins of misalignment: cold gas from filaments, hot gas from outer halo, interaction or merging events with galaxies and environmental effects. Misalignment, the black box from mixture of internal and external gas, can be an important keyword for understanding further about galaxies' kinematics and external processes. Using both SAMI IFS data(Sydney-AAO Multi-object Integral field spectrograph Galaxy Survey, Croom+12) and Horizon-AGN simulation(Dubois+14), we examined misaligned galaxies properties and distribution. Because the simulation has lots of galaxies at various z, we were able to study history of formation, evolution and extinction of misalignment, which was hard to be done with observation only.

  • Horizon Run 5 is the most massive cosmological hydrodynamic simulation ever performed until now. Owing to the large spatial volume ($717{\times}80{\times}80[cMpc/h]^3$) and the high resolution down to 1 kpc, we may study the cosmological effects on star and galaxy formations over a wide range of mass scales from the dwarf to the cluster. We have modified the public available Ramses code to harness the power of the OpenMP parallelism, which is necessary for running simulations in such a huge KISTI supercomputer called Nurion. We have reached z=2.3 from z=200 for a given simulation period of 50 days using 2500 computing nodes of Nurion. During the simulation run, we have saved snapshot data at 97 redshifts and two light cone space data, which will be used later for the study of various research fields in galaxy formation and cosmology. We will close this talk by listing possible research topics that will play a crucial role in helping us take lead in those areas.

  • The study investigates the diversification behavior of Islamic stocks against US financial uncertainty. Considering limitations found in the literature, a comprehensive index of financial uncertainty (FU) is used, developed by Jurado, Ludvigson, and Ng (2015). The empirical analysis uses monthly data from four Islamic markets - Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Turkey - for the period from January 2010 to September 2019. Results of the bivariate EGARCH models show that Islamic stocks can be used for diversification purpose against the financial uncertainty of the US because the volatility of US uncertainty does not propagate in the Islamic stock markets. Moreover, findings show that the spillover effect of financial uncertainty varies with the FU forecast horizon. The spillover effect of FU increases with an increase in the FU forecast horizon and becomes significant over 3-month and 12-month periods in the case of Saudi Arabia. The current volatility of Islamic stock returns is independent of the size of shocks in past volatility. The leverage effect and asymmetry have been found in Saudi Arabia and Malaysia. The findings validate the arguments of the literature that Islamic markets are resilient facing uncertainties and perform well during crisis periods. The findings are important for investors in making better portfolio decisions.

  • The distribution of popular videos incurs a large amount of traffic at the base stations (BS) of networks. Device-to-multi-device (D2MD) communication has emerged an efficient radio access technology for offloading BS traffic in recent years. However, traditional studies have focused on synchronous user requests whereas asynchronous user requests are more common. Hence, offloading BS traffic in case of asynchronous user requests while considering their time-varying characteristics and the quality of experience (QoE) of video request users (VRUs) is a pressing problem. This paper uses social stability (SS) and video loading duration (VLD)-tolerant property to group VRUs and seed users (SUs) to offload BS traffic. We define the average amount of data transmission (AADT) to measure the network's capacity for offloading BS traffic. Based on this, we formulate a time-varying bipartite graph matching optimization problem. We decouple the problem into two subproblems which can be solved separately in terms of time and space. Then, we propose the socially aware D2MD user selection (SA-D2MD-S) algorithm based on finite horizon optimal stopping theory, and propose the SA-D2MD user matching (SA-D2MD-M) algorithm to solve the two subproblems. The results of simulations show that our algorithms outperform prevalent algorithms.
