  • As a basic study to improve hooking ability of long line fishing gear, which is widely used around Jeju-do coast, the researcher performed hooking experiment of parrot fish by manufacturing and installing 7 kinds of model long line fishing gears, whose thickness of branch line are different and 8 kinds of model long line fishing gear, whose length of branch line are different, in indoor circular aquarium, which is installed for the model experiment of thickness and length of branch line that are various by fishing implement and improper. The hooking rate depending on thickness and length of branch line was calculated and the effect of thickness and length of branch line on hooking rate was analyzed. Its results are as follows. When branch line was thin and long, high hooking rate appeared. In the scope of value setting, the relationship between thickness ($B_t$) of branch line and total hooking rate ($Th_r$) can be shown as following formula as. In the scope of value setting, the relationship between length ($B_t$) of branch line and total hooking rate ($B_t$) can be shown as $Th_r=-20.83B_t+26.04$. Through Pearson correlation analysis, the coefficient of correlation between thickness of branch line and hooking rate was -0.718. Therefore it showed significance in 0.01 significance level. Through Pearson correlation analysis, the coefficient of correlation between length of branch line and hooking rate was 0.431. Therefore it showed significance in 0.01 significance level.

  • A field experiment was carried out of confirm the effect of underwater sound on the luring of fish school of chub mackerel in the coast of Idousyo Island. Underwater sound that was made use of luring of fish school was pure sound and interval pure sound which the frequencies of the sound were 150Hz and 200Hz, respectively. The results of the observation of hooking and recording paper of fish finder indicate that the effect of emitting sound at 20m in the depth of water was remarkable for the luring of fish school of chub mackerel. The vertical pure sound pressure level at 150Hz and 200Hz of the water layer that was lured the fish school of chub mackerel were 140.1dB and 146.dB at 30m, 121.0dB and 126.6dB at 70m and 141.9dB and 120.5dB at 120m in the depth of water, respectively.

  • In fishing with the anchovy boat seine, it is required to haul up the bag net without injuring anchovy body. Not to injure anchovy body, the bag net is operated with 30 to 34 crews in the traditional method. With a view point of decreasing crews, the authors tried to operate the bag net with side drum winch and derrick boom. Side drum winch was installed beside the engine casing and it was operated by the main engine through the belt, pulley and bevel gear. The derrick boom, 7 meters long, was installed above the working deck which is located in the stern of the common boat seiner. Three single blocks are attached to the boom, each 2 meters apart from the top. A hook was attached to the free end of the block line for hooking up the bolch line which attached inside the bag net especially prepared for the purpose. The hauling end of the block line was induced to the side drum winch for hauling up the bag net. By using this mechanism, the bag net was hauled up with peeling the bag net just like in the traditional method. So the following results are found. (1) No injury of anchovy body was found in the process of hauling up. (2) The bag net can be operated by mere 14 crews. (3) Duration, spent in hauling up the bag net, was almost the same when the catch are a little amount, and less duration was needed by the experimented method than the traditional one when the catch are a large amount. the bag net.
