  • The purpose of this paper is to provide useful information for fishermen in the manner of investigation a sinking speed of current type tuna longline gear at the North Pacific Ocean as a new developed tuna longline fishing ground. The sinking depth of mainline in connection with different basket was investigated. The experiments were also performed with different materials such as Supermansen (i.e., PE) and Hitech (i.e., PA) for the mainline to investigate the sinking depth of mainline and hooks. Furthermore, the relation between the sinking depth of hooks and catches are investigated also. The sinking depth of mainline at the first and the last shooting basket shows deeper than that of middle part of a basket due to reduced shortening ratio. The sinking depth of mainline and hook with Hitech material shows more shallow than that of Supermanse material, even the Hitech case was designed to sink deeper than that of Supermanse case. The highest catches arise at the middle part basket as the hook number 7 with around 248m sinking depth. From the results, longline with Hitech material is needed to increase the sinking force for reaching the relevant sinking depth. Moreover, the current strength at the North Pacific Ocean will be considered for further commercial fishing.

  • Background: The blunted tip of a reusable with multiple uses can cause problems with the passing procedure in arthroscopic Bankart repair. This study assessed the advantage of Scorpion with a $70^{\circ}$ arthroscope in arthroscopic Bankart repair compared to hook typed suture passer. Methods: Scorpion in 19 patients, the hook type suture passer (conventional group) in 18 patients were used. All patients underwent the same procedure except for the type of suture passer used. Another different point of the procedure were telescopes and the number of portals used; three arthroscopic portals (posterior, anterorsuperiorlateral, and mid-anterior) and a $30^{\circ}$ arthroscope in the conventional group, but two portals and a $70^{\circ}$ arthroscope as well as the $30^{\circ}$ one in the Scorpion group. The surgery time and the surgical complications including an iatrogenic axillary nerve injury were recorded. Results: The Scorpion group showed a significant decrease in surgery time compared to the conventional group. In contrast to the conventional group, Scorpion provided an easy estimation of the exit of suture passing, no iatrogenic labral injury during the passing procedure with straight movement and the sharp tip of the knife installed. Iatrogenic supraspinatus injuries could be avoided when making an accessory anteosuperiorlateral portal due to the $70^{\circ}$ arthroscope. Conclusions: In arthroscopic Bankart repair, the use of the Scorpion suture passer and a $70^{\circ}$ arthroscope can reduce the surgery time, avoid unnecessary supraspinatus injury, and avoid iatrogenic axillary nerve damage through the relatively easy and precise suture passing and saving of the anterosuperior portal.

  • A scanning electron microscopic study on the glochidium and glchidial encystment of Anodonta grandis on the guppy was conducted. The shape of the glochidium is apparently triangular and its averge size is 0.45mm X0.4mm when closed, The two glochidial shell valves are of the same size, kept together by a ligament of 120${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in length and 7 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in width. Each of the glochidial shell valves has a 16 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ long hook sitdded with many spines on the superior face. A large area to the apex of the valve surrounding the base of the hook is provided with numerous small spines which become progressively smaller towards the periphery of the area, The external surface of the glochidial shell valve is covered with numerous small processes showing successive change in the shape and the pattern of destribution by part. Besides the processes, there are a number of niches scattered all over the exterior surface. The glochidial shell valve has two layers. One is the outer thin membrane bearing the processes and the niches and the others is the inner layer bearing numerous holes which any accessory structure and 2.65 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in diameter, emerges from a canal located at center of ventral plate of the mamtle, A total of three types of the hair cells are observed. In present artificial infection of the glochidium to the guppy, it took about three to four hours to complete an early cysts, During the period of encystment, The epithelial cells of the host fish actively migrated toward the attached glochidium and covered it.

  • Purpose: Though its general usage, traditional tie-over dressing using suture has a few drawbacks such as difficulty in re-fixation after its opening especially when hematoma or seroma has occurred. It is rather difficult to maintain a stable dressing on curvy parts of body like flank, buttocks and that leads to unsatisfactory results of the surgery. Authors recommend a quick and repeatedly doable method, tie-over dressing that incorporates the usage of hooks and rubber bands. Methods: Debridement was done at a recipient site to be able to do skin graft. A right size of skin graft was prepared and placed upon the defect site with suture. Enough number of hooks were attached using Blue nylon at the normal skin of the edge of grafted area. We Applied dressing with ointment and fluffy gauze then fixed the dressing by attaching a rubber band at the hook to give a certain amount of tension. One or two days after the surgery, we opened the tie-over dressing and repeated the tie-over dressing by reusing the hooks and rubber band. Results: The skin grafts were all successfully taken and by repeating tie-over dressing using hooks and rubber, we could take the advantage of shortened the dressing time and eliminate the inconvenience of the patient and the surgeon by using bandages and fixing tapes. Conclusion: The advantage of tie over dressing using hooks and rubber bsnds are its easy re-doability early detection of probable complications, preventability of reoccurence of hematoma and seroma. Therefore, authors report this as considering the tie-over dressing using hooks and rubber bands is recommendable.

  • AT-hook proteins of plant have shown to be involved in growth and development through the modification of chromatin architecture to co-regulate transcription of genes. Recently, many genes encoding AT-hook protein have been identified and their involvement in senescence delay is investigated. In this study, soybean transgenic plants overexpressing chromatin architecture-controlling ATPG7 gene was produced by Agrobacterium-mediated transformation and investigated for the positive effect on the important agronomic traits mainly focusing on yield-related components. A total of 27 transgenic soybean plants were produced from about 400 explants. $T_1$ seeds were harvested from all transgenic plants. In the analysis of genomic DNAs from soybean transformants, ATPG7 and Bar fragments were amplified as expected, 975 bp and 408 bp in size, respectively. And also exact gene expression was confirmed by reverse transcriptase-PCR (RT-PCR) from transgenic line #6, #7 and #8. In a field evaluation of yield components of ATPG7 transgenic plants ($T_3$), higher plant height, more of pod number and greater average total seed weight were observed with statistical significance. The results of this study indicate that the introduction of ATPG7 gene in soybean may have the positive effect on yield components.

  • Purpose: To investigate the clinical outcomes of distal hook augmentation using a pedicle screw in thoracolumbar fusion in elderly patients. Materials and Methods: This retrospective multicenter study recruited 20 patients aged 65 years or older, who underwent anterior support and long level posterior fusion in the thoracolumbar junction with a follow-up of one year. To assess the effect of distal hook augmentation, the patients were divided into two groups; the pedicle screw with hook group (PH group, n=10) and the pedicle screw alone group (PA group, n=10). Results: The average age was 72.4 years (65-83 years). The average fusion segment was 4.6 segments (3-6 segments). There were no significant differences in age, sex, causative diseases, bone mineral density of lumbar and proximal femur, number of patients with osteoporosis, and number of fused segments between the two groups (p≥0.05). At 1 year follow-up after surgery, parameters related with distal screw pullout were significantly worse in the PA group. No patients in the PH group had distal screw pullout. However, six patients (60%, 6/10) in the PA group had distal screw pullout. There were no significant differences in the progression of distal junctional kyphosis between the two groups. Conclusion: Distal hook augmentation is an effective procedure in protecting distal pedicle screws against the pullout when long level thoracolumbar fusion was performed in elderly patients aged 65 years or older.

  • Sea urchins were collected from waters adjacent to Daludo Island and Mohang harbor in the Yellow Sea, and were identified into Glyptocidaris crenularis A. Agassiz, 1864, of the family Stomopneustidae within the order Stomopneustoida, based on morphological characteristics. This species has two unique morphological characteristics: the ambulacral plate is composed of three primary plates and two demi-plates, and a valve of globiferous pedicellaria consists of with a well-developed long terminal hook and a unique stalk equipped with one to six long lateral processes covering membranes, resembling fins. It is newly recorded in Korea and is described with photographs. This brings the total number of sea urchins reported from the Yellow Sea, Korea, to seven.

  • In this study engineered steel fibres used as reinforcement for concrete were characterized by number of key mechanical and spatial parameters, which are easy to measure and quantify. Such commonly used parameters as length, diameter, fibre intrinsic efficiency ratio (FIER), hook geometry, tensile strength and ductility were considered. Effective classification of various fibres was demonstrated using simple multivariate computations involving principal component analysis (PCA). Contrary to univariate data mining approach, the proposed analysis can be efficiently adapted for fast, robust and direct classification of engineered steel fibres. The results have revealed that in case of particular spatial/geometrical conditions of steel fibres investigated the FIER parameter can be efficiently replaced by a simple aspect ratio. There is also a need of finding new parameters describing properties of steel fibre more precisely.

  • To investigate the morphological characteristics of spermatozoa of the grey red-blacked vole (Clethrionomys rufocanus) belongings to the subfamily Cricetinae, subgenus Clethrionomys were examined by scanning and transmission electron microscopes. The sperm head of C. rufocanus was an ax or hatchet in shape with a curved single dorsal hook. The total length of C. regulus sperm was 95.8 ${\mu}m$. The length of sperm head was 7.8 ${\mu}m$, and the tail (88.0 ${\mu}m$) consisted of four major segments: the neck (1.0 ${\mu}m$), middle piece (22.0 ${\mu}m$), and principal piece plus end piece (65.0 ${\mu}m$), respectively. The segmented columns were about 10~12 in number. The number of gyres of mitochondria ranged from about 170 to 178. The post-nuclear cap occupied about a half of nucleus. The equatorial segment is located between the post-nuclear cap segment and acrosomal cap on the nuclear surface. Nos. 1, 5 and 6 of the outer dense fibers were larger than the others. A fibrous sheath and longitudinal column of the principal piece were in evidence, but the fibrous sheath was not seen at the end piece. In conclusion, the morphological structures of sperm head and tail may be useful information to patterning of sperm evolution and classifying of species.
