  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the time behavior of a multiple crack problems. It is assumed that the medium contains cracks perpendicular to the crack surfaces, that the thermo-mechanical properties are continuous functions of the thickness coordinate. we use the laminated composite plate model to simulate the material non-homogeneity. By utilizing the Laplace transform and Fourier transform techniques, the multiple crack problems in the non-homogeneous medium is formulated. Singular integral equations are derived and solved to investigate the multiple crack problems. As a numerical illustration, transient thermal stress intensity factors(TSIFs) for a functionally graded material plate subjected to sudden heating on its boundary are provided. The variation in the TSIFs due to the change in material gradient and the crack position is studied.

  • The catalytically stabilized combustion of $CH_4$-air mixture on platinum catalyst was investigated numerically using a 2-D boundary layer model with detailed heterogeneous and homogeneous chemistries. The actual surface site density of monolith coated with platinum was decided by the comparison with experimental data. The comparisons were made between results for cases where only heterogeneous chemistry was allowed and both heterogeneous and homogeneous chemistries were allowed. It was found that the homogeneous reaction in the monolith had little effect on the change of temperature profile, methane conversion rate and light off location. The contributions of each reactions related with CO formation were discussed on the surface. The effects of operation conditions such as equivalence ratio, temperature, velocity and pressure at the entrance were studied. In thermal combustor, CO and NOx was produced less than 1 ppm at the exit and the production of $N_{2}O$ was more dominant than that of NO.

  • The evolution process of an initially homogeneous bone structure under axial and transverse loads is investigated in this paper. The external loads include axial and external lateral pressure, electric, magnetic and thermal loads. The theoretical predictions of evolution processes are made based on the adaptive elasticity formulation and coupled thermo-magneto-electro-elastic theory. The adaptive elastic body, which is a model for living bone diaphysis, is assumed to be homogeneous in its anisotropic properties and its density. The principal result of this paper is determination of the evolution process of the initially homogeneous body to a transversely inhomogeneous body under the influence of the inhomogeneous stress state.

  • This paper shows the results of a series of model bests on the behavior of single steel pipe pile which is subjected to lateral load in Nak-dong river sand. The purpose of the present paper is to estimate the effect of Non -homogeneous soil, constraint condition of pile head, lateral load velocity, relative density of soil, embedded pile length, and flexural stiffness of pile on the behavior of single pile which is embedded in Nak-dong river strand. These effects can be quantined only by the results of model tests. The nonlinear responses of lateral loadieflection relationships are fitted to 2nd polynomial equations by model tests results. Also, the lateral load of a deflection, yield and ultimate lateral load max. bending moment, and yield bending moment can be expressed as exponential function in terms of relative density and deflection ratio. By comparing Brom's results with model results on the lateral ultimate load, it is found that short and long pile show the contrary results with each other. The contrary results are due to the smaller assumed soil reaction than the soil reaction of the Nakiong river sand at deep point. By comparing lateral behavior on the homogeneous soil with non-homogeneous soil, it is shown that lateral loadieflection relationship is very dependent on the upper relative density. This phenomenon is shown remarkably as the difference between upper and lower relative density increases.

  • This study is to develop a model to predict the soil temperature variation in Korea Institute of Energy Research using its thermal properties, such as thermal conductivity and diffusivity. Soil depth temperature variation is very important in the design of a proper Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP) system. This is because the size of the borehole depends on the soil temperature distribution, and this can decrease GSHP system cost. If the thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity are known, the soil temperature can be predicted by either the Krarti equation or the Spitler equation. Then a comparison with the Krarti equation and Spitler equation data with the real measured data can be performed. Also, the thermal properties can be reasonably approximated by performing a fit of the Krarti and Spitler equations with measured temperature data. This was done and, as a result, the Krarti equation and Spitler equation predicted values very close to the measured data. Although there is about a $0.5^{\circ}C$ difference between the deep subsurface prediction (16m - 60m), with this equation, were expected to have model this Non-Homogeneous Soil Temperature phenomenon properly. So, it has been shown that a prediction of non-homogeneous soil temperature variation influenced by solar radiation can be achieved with a model.

  • Two-phase pressure drop experiments were performed during flow boiling to deionized water in a microchannel having a hydraulic diameter of $500{\mu}m$. Tests were made in the ranges of heat fluxes from 100 to $400kW/m^2$, vapor qualities from 0 to 0.2 and mass fluxes of 200, 400 and $600kg/m^2s$. The frictional pressure drop during flow boiling is predicted by using two models; the homogeneous model that assumes equal phase velocity and the separate flow model that allows a slip velocity between two phases. From the experimental results, it is found that the two phase multiplier decreases with an increase in mass flux. Measured data of pressure drop are compared to a few available correlations proposed for macroscale and mini/microscale. Among the separated flow models, the correlation model suggested by Lee and Garimella predicted the frictional pressure drop within MAE of 47.2%, which is better than other correlations.

  • In this paper, we applied the shape parameters of the exponentialized exponential life distribution widely used in the field of software reliability, and compared the reliability properties of the software using the non-homogeneous Poisson process in finite failure. In addition, the average value function is also a non-decreasing form. In the case of the larger the shape parameter, the smaller the estimated error in predicting the predicted value in comparison with the true value, so it can be regarded as an efficient model in terms of relative accuracy. Also, in the larger the shape parameter, the larger the estimated value of the coefficient of determination, which can be regarded as an efficient model in terms of suitability. So. the larger the shape parameter model can be regarded as an efficient model in terms of goodness-of-fit. In the form of the reliability function, it gradually appears as a non-increasing pattern and the higher the shape parameter, the lower it is as the mission time elapses. Through this study, software operators can use the pattern of mean square error, mean value, and hazard function as a basic guideline for exploring software failures.

  • This paper discusses the lateral behavior of single and group piles in homogeneous and non-homogeneous(two layered) soil. In the single pile, the model tests were conducted to investigate the effects on ratio of lower layer height to embedded pile length, ratio of soil modules of upper layer to lower layer, boundary rendition of pile head and tip, embedded pile length, pile construction condition, ground condition with saturate and moisture state in Nak-Dong river sand. Also, in the group pile, the model tests were to investigate the effects on spacing-to-diameter ratio of pile, pile array, ratio of pile spacing, boundary condition of pile head and tip, eccentric load and ground condition. The maximum bending moment and deflection induced in active piles were found to be highly dependent on the relative density, pile construction condition, boundary condition of pile head and tip. Based on the results obtained, it was found that the decrease of lateral bearing capacity in saturated sand was in the range of 31% - 53% as compared with the case of dry sand. Also, in the group pile, a spacing-to-diameter of 6.0 seems to be large enough to eliminate the group effect for the case of relative density of 61.8%, and 32.8%, and then each pile in such a case behaves essentially the same as a single pile. In this study, the program is developed by using the modified Chang method which used p - y method and the exact solution of governing equation of pile and it can be used to calculate the deflection, bending moment and soil reaction with FDM in non-homogeneous soil. In comparing the modified Chang method with field test results, the predict results shows better agreement with measured results in field tests.

  • Image depth estimation is a technology that is the basis of various image analysis. As analysis methods using deep learning models emerge, studies using deep learning in image depth estimation are being actively conducted. Currently, most deep learning-based depth estimation models are being trained with clean and ideal images. However, due to the lack of data on adverse conditions such as haze or fog, the depth estimation may not work well in such an environment. It is hard to sufficiently secure an image in these environments, and in particular, obtaining non-homogeneous haze data is a very difficult problem. In order to solve this problem, in this study, we propose a method of synthesizing non-homogeneous haze images and a learning method for a monocular depth estimation deep learning model using this method. Considering that haze mainly occurs outdoors, datasets mainly containing outdoor images are constructed. Experiment results show that the model with the proposed method is good at estimating depth in both synthesized and real haze data.

  • Cavitating flow simulation is of practical importance for many engineering systems, such as marine propellers, pump impellers, nozzles, injectors, torpedoes, etc. The present work has focused on the simulation of cavitating flow past cylinders with strong side flows. The governing equation is the Navier-Stokes equation based on the homogeneous mixture model. The momentum and energy equation is in the mixture phase while the continuity equation is solved liquid and vapor phase, separately. An implicit dual time and preconditioning method are employed for computational analysis. For the code validation, the results from the present solver have been compared with experiments and other numerical results. A fairly good agreement with the experimental data and other numerical results have been obtained. After the code validation, the strong side flow was applied to include the wake flow effects of the submarine or ocean tide.
