The orthopteran insects of Jejudo are revised. Key to the Korean orthopteran taxa including Tetrigidae species are given.

Herein, 15 species of the ground beetles are reported from Jejudo. Of these, 4 species, Bradycellus subditus (Lewis,1879), Colpodes rubriolus Bates, 1883, Pentagonica angulosa Bates, 1873, and Porotachys recurvicollis(Andrewes, 1925) are listed for the first time from the Korean Peninsula. The Korean tachyine species are briefly discussed.

Two species new for Korea, Scolopocryptops nigrimaculatus Song, Song and Zhu, 2004 and Scolopocryptops mushashiensis Shinohara, 1984 are reported from South Korea. The Korean occurrance of S. nigrimaculatus is the first record of the species outside China, while S. mushashiensis has been known only form its type locality in Japan till now.

This paper is concerned with the development of a simple digital stethoscope system for diagnosis of cardiac disorders. This system consists of an electronic stethoscope, IC sound recorder and a notebook computer. The cardiac sound is easily acquired by the electronic stethoscope and then recorded in IC memory stick so that the digital cardiac signal can be simply transmitted to the computer for signal display, disease diagnosis, and personal history record. A software is built with functions displaying the sound graphically and replaying the sound clearly. Further, a neural network recognition system for automatic diagnosis of cardiac disorders is also added to the software.

Five species in the genus Thalia of the family Salpidae are described: Thalia cicar van Soest, 1973, Thalia democratica (Forskal, 1775), Thalia orientalis Tokioka, 1937, Thalia rhomboides (Quoy and Gaimard, 1824), and Thalia sibogae van Soest, 1973. All of these species are new to the Korean fauna. A key to the Korean Thalia species is provided.

A book of brief records of open heart surgery underwent between 1959 and 1982 at Seoul National University Hospital was recently found. The book was hand-written by the late professor and cardiac surgeon Yung Kyoon Lee (1921-1994). This book contains valuable information about cardiac patients and surgery at the early stages of the establishment of open heart surgery in Korea, and at Seoul National University Hospital. This report is intended to analyze the content of the book.

China has countless ancient books that contain thousand years of continuously recorded history across every generation. It is essential to organize the ancient cultural literature in order to better communicate. The study of ancient Chinese literature recently has become a subject of priority. Shi-Ji, one of the representative documents, is used for record keeping because of its experience with ancient Chinese historic materials and artifacts. This draft of Shi-ji is based on ancient Chinese research methods with the purpose to explore the character, phonology, syntax, exegesis and collation of historical value.

Colonial ascidian, Eusynstyela monotestis (Tokioka, 1953), is newly reported from Korean waters. The specimens of E. monotestis examined in this study were collected at subtidal zone of Beomseom, Munseom, Seopseom and Chagwido in Jeju-do by SCUBA diving. The genus Eusynstyela Michaelsen, 1904 is also new to Korean waters and it is distinct from other genera by having branchial sac with folds, longitudinal stigmata, hermaphrodite gonads on both sides, 1-2 male follicles in each gonad and body wall with endocarps. Eusynstyela monotestis is distinct from other species by having gonad with only single male follicle. In this paper, detailed descriptions and photographs of Eusynstyela monotestis (Tokioka, 1953) are provided.

We have known that "Chimgudaeseong(鍼灸大成)" had been written by Yanggyeju(楊繼洲) in Myeong(明) Dynasty. And it had been the only text book of acupuncture & moxibustion for 300 years. This book is composed of 10 chapters dealing almost all the medical theories of that times. This book is so enormous that it is hard to understand essential ideas of author. The reading medical records is one of the best way to develop one's abilities of curing a disease without clinical practice. so we can't help dealing with medical records, because it is one of important method of understanding Oriental Medicine. On this study, we investigate a objective method on understanding medical records in "Chimgudaeseong(鍼灸大成)".
