This paper deals with the history of one of the well-known and historically important problems in probability, "Gambler's ruin". This problem was first solved by Pascal and Fermat and published by Huygens in 1657. It was studied and extended by many probabilists in early years and thus, it became an important problem in probability history, introducing many new concepts. We would like to introduce the problem in detail to readers and share the ideas on how new problems are developed, relating to old problems.

In this paper, we study the long-time dynamical behavior for the extensible suspension bridge equations with past history. We prove the existence of the global attractors by using the contraction function method. Furthermore, the regularity of global attractor is achieved.

1650년대에 파스칼과 페르마가 주고 받은 편지에서 시작된 확률 연구가 하위헌스, 베르누이, 라플라스 등의 연구로 이어지는 과정에서 당시의 법률적인 사고가 어떤 역할을 하였는지 살펴보았다. 이 연구에서 살펴 본 바에 따르면 초기 확률 연구에서 '기댓값'과 '확률'이라는 새로운 용어와 개념이 생기는 데에는 '공정한 거래', '확실성의 정도'와 같은 법률적인 사고가 큰 역할을 하였던 한편, 19세기 이후 센서스를 비롯한 통계조사가 활발해지면서 거꾸로 통계가 사회적, 법률적 사고방식에 영향을 미치기도 하였다.

Parrondo paradox is a counter-intuitive phenomenon where two losing games can be combined to win or two winning games can be combined to lose. When we trade stocks with a history-dependent Parrondo game rule (where we buy and sell stocks based on recent investment outcomes) we found Parrondo paradox in stock trading. Using stock data of the KRX from 2008 to 2010, we analyzed the Parrondo paradoxical cases in the Korean stock market.

As teachings that use the ICT are more popular, many studies on the dynamic geometry environment(DGE) are under way. An important factor emphasized in the studies is to practical use learning activities of learners. In this study, we first define the learning history data in DGE. Second we develop a prototype of the DGE that is able to collect and analyze the learning history data automatically. The environment enables not only to grasp leaning history but also to create and manage new learning objects.

본 논문에서는 수학을 기반으로 한 데이터베이스의 지식탐사 절차를 통하여 데이터의 선택, 정제, 통합, 변환, 축소, 데이터 마이닝 기법의 선택과 적용 및 모형의 평가에 관한 개념과 방법론을 소개하고 수학의 한 분야로서 통계학의 역할과 적용방법에 관하여 연구하고자 한다. 또한 오늘날 관심이 대상이 되고 있는 데이터 마이닝의 역사와 수학적 배경, 통계 및 정보 기술을 이용한 데이터 마이닝의 주요 모델링 기법, 실용적 응용 분야 및 적용 사례 그리고 데이터 마이닝과 통계의 차이점에 관하여 조사하고 논하고자 한다.

최근 통계적 소양, 추론, 사고에 중점을 둔 통계 교육의 필요성이 강력하게 제기되었다. 특히 통계 교육의 목적으로서 통계적 소양의 중요성이 주목을 받고 논의되고 있다. 이에 따라 선행연구를 중심으로 통계적 소양에 대해 고찰하고자 한다. 그동안 논의되었던 통계적 소양의 정의, 구성요소를 살펴본다. 그리고 학교 수학교육과정에서 통계교육의 목적을 살펴보고, 통계적 소양의 측면에서 우리나라의 통계 교육을 위한 시사점을 생각해 본다.

A manufacturing execution system in the process according to automation system of installation management has been growing interest about effective system design and effective system manage. In this paper, we propose an ubiquitous Manufacturing Execution System based on RFID/USN for checkup monitoring and history management of installation in manufacturing execution systems. For this, we design and implement installation history and statistics management system based on RFID grafting RFID for efficient installation equipment history and statistics management of ubiquitous Manufacturing Execution System, and was implemented checkup monitoring system based on USN using temperature sensor, humidity sensor, hydraulic pressure sensor for failure prevention of ubiquitous Manufacturing Execution System. And proposed ubiquitous Manufacturing Execution System is implemented based on JSP for access through Web in real time.

Hjort (1990)가 제안한 베타과정은 베이지안 생존분석 또는 사건사 분석에서 널리 쓰이는 사전분포이다. 본 논문은 베타과정에 대한 최신 이론과 이를 기반으로 하는 베이지안 생존자료분석 방법을 주로 다룬다. 구체적으로는 베타과정의 생성법, 사후 분포, 대표본 이론, 베이지안 계산법, 혼합베타과정 등을 소개하기로 한다.

최근 국내에서 통계학 전공자들뿐만 아니라 일반인들도 읽을 수 있는 통계학 책이 많이 출판되는 현상은 대단히 반가운 일이다. 그 책들 가운데에는 국내 저자가 쓴 것보다는 번역서가 더 많은데, 번역도서의 양적인 팽창은 한편으로 그 책들이 번역되어야할 이유가 과연 무엇인가라는 질문을 비롯해서 번역의 질적인 면을 검토할 필요성도 제기한다. 이 글에서는 지난 2003년에 나온 번역서 네 권을 대상으로 그 책들에 담긴 색인과 참고문헌, 통계학 이론과 통계학 용어, 그리고 통계학의 역사에 대해 중점적으로 살펴보았다. 또한 그 책들을 소개하는 일간신문의 신간소개나 서평 기사들도 검토하였다. 결론적으로 이 글의 진단은 번역서들에서 보게 되는 많은 문제점들이 통계학과 거리가 먼 번역자들이 그 책을 옮겼기 때문에 생긴다는 것이다. 따라서 국내의 통계학 전문가들이 일반 대중을 위한 통계학 책의 필요성, 번역 작업이 갖는 의미, 번역할 책의 선택에 대해 좀더 활발하게 토론하고 무엇보다 직접 번역 작업에 참여할 필요가 있겠고, 나아가 일반 한국 사람을 대상으로 한국어로 된 훌륭한 통계학 책을 쓰는 작업에도 더 적극적일 필요가 있겠다.
