  • This study aims to draw out planning principles and structure of Iksan imperial capital city in late Baekje, especially in view of the relationship among imperial capital city planning area, skeletal axis and the location of royal castle. With site survey and analysis of historical records, old maps, topographical maps, archeological excavation data, land registration map of 1915, some significant inferences were drawn out. Firstly from the point of topological conditions, the contiguous line of a stratum from Mireuk mountain(彌勒山) to Wangkung-ri castle(王宮里遺蹟) and two waterways made a topological axis of Iksan Imperial capital city. Secondly district of Iksan imperial capital city can be deduced to the inner area north to Kummado soil wall(金馬都土城), south to the confluence of Iksan river(益山川) and Busang river(扶桑川), west to Okum mountain fortress(五金山城) and Galjeon river(葛田川), east to line near to eastern wall of Jesuksa temple(帝釋寺). Iksan ssang-reung(益山雙陵) was located outside western boundary line of capital city. Thirdly axis from Wangkung-ri castle to northern Kummado soil wall made a skeletal axis of city structure. It got through northern lowland along Buk river(北川) between Yonghwa(龍華山) and Mireuk mountain. Fourthly the location of royal palace can be deduced to the north part of the city around Kumma town area along the planning principle of northern royal palace.

  • This study considered the factors of city brand reinforcement and city revitalization through a case study of two cities that were successful in revitalizing using a brand strategy. World leading cities are securing city competitiveness through the culture resources, particularly traditional culture, as a key asset to highlight the cities' uniqueness in increasing their value. The Confucianism influence on Korean traditional culture has a valuable content like etiquette, ritual ceremony, food, education, etc. as well as culture heritage in historical architecture. Therefore, it can be used as the city's assets to promote it worldwide. On the other hand, there is difficulty in preserving most Confucianism culture content and the intangible cultural properties have been neglected. This needs to be applied actively to be used on a city brand strategy. This study reviewed the successful case of Andong city in Korea and Qufu city in Sandong, China and suggests ways of raising the cities' brand power.

  • The present study was aimed to estimate the urban sprawl in a historical city of India using series of satellite data between 1968 and 2005(37 years) and GIS. The total area of the Tiruchirappalli city was 1991.96 ha during 1968 and it was expanded into 4335.98 ha(117.67%) during 2005. The average growth rate per year was 63.35 ha. This 117.67% growth was at the cost of agriculture land(97.81%) and water body(2.19%). The satellite data used in this study were found to be good source of information for this kind of analysis and further studies are need to estimate the impact of this city expansion on agriculture yield and ground water.

  • This paper employs a relatively new technique of Artificial Neural Network (ANN) to forecast water demand of Daegu city. The ANN model used in this study is a single hidden layer hierarchy model. About seventeen sets of historical water demand records and the values of their socioeconomic impact factors are used to train the model. Also other regression and time serious models are investigated for comparison purpose. The results present the ANN model can better perform the issue of urban water demand forecasting, and obtain the correlation coefficient of $R^2$ with a value of 0.987 and the relative difference less than 4.4% for this study.

  • While the existing feng-shui is largely approached architecturally and geographically as positive place and negative place, the study is characterized by approaching and analyzing poong-soo environmentally. The theory of Eco-city as one of modern-city theories is worthy of studying by analyzing the merits and demerits of it and combining it with poong-soo and making a new alternative theory. Theory of Natural Energy and principle of Natural Balance. Thus, poong-soo ideas can be an important view of nature in analyzing the theory of Eco-city which is coming to the front these days. In particular, we try to make use of poong-soo as a basic theory for a city planning and design by studying and analyzing and combining the merits and demerits of Eco-city with poong-soo and presenting a new alternative method of a stable and balanced "refined city development". On the other hand, we connect 'theory with practice(or experience)' by covering all spaces variably from minimum unit space to city-space from the standpoint of poong-soo. But, problem of the Theory of Eco-city from the view of poong-soo are too artificial and theoretical, even if ideal. Conversely, from the view of Eco-city, the possibility of the practicability of Korean poong-soo is judged to be high. we can tell that among capital cities applied by poong-soo, historical cities like Beijing in China, Seoul in Korea and Tokyo in Japan are poong-soo cities in accordance with the requirements of Eco-city.

  • This project provides designs for renewal of the surrounding environment related to old fountains typically located in cities. In many cities, the fountain element has bee located with a strategic position in the city. Located in the central area of Cheongju, the Sajik Fountain Fountain has significant position in the local city. However, due to changes in the surrounding area and the old-fashioned form of the fountain, it has not contributed substantially to the cityscape. Including the historical Seomoon Bridge and Moosim-Cheon(stream) as Wooam-San(mountain) setting, the surrounding environment of our planning site appear to be a locally important place. In respect to building with a broad function, landscape designers focused on the reconsideration of symbolization as landmark, of the image of Cheongju city, of recognition by removing the horizontal line and of the substantial civil´s use rate. Achieved by working with a sculptor, a new function, the main facility, is managed sculpturally and imaged in a drop of water representing clear, fresh Cheongju city. This plan introduces the image of Wooam-San, Moosim-Cheon(stream), Sangdang-SanSung(A mountain fortress) and elicit a sense of peace, symbolic of Cheongju. The significance of this project is that as the current cities are increasingly developed, small areas left alone in city are reconsidered and offered to the public as efficient, resting and active outdoor space.

  • With the continuous expansion and updating of modern cities, the historical and cultural space of ancient city is under increasing impact from the expansion of modern cities. At present, the regeneration and protection of the ancient city has achieved remarkable results together with poor results. Based on this background, this paper has revealed the power operation behind the space production of three regenerated ancient cities with 'spatial practice', 'representation of space' and '"representation of space' as the framework to, and pointed out the influence of stake holders on space shaping and analysis on the construction of regeneration model. From the perspective of specific materials, society, power, and culture, this paper has analyzed the methods of regeneration construction of Wuzhen ancient city, and provided new methods and reference values for how to regenerate and protect ancient cities. Based on these studies and analysis of the regeneration issues in ancient cities and villages, other historical cultural areas, the paper has indicated that it is necessary to coordinate with the government to clarify the issue of property rights, as well as planners and managers, to activate the regional culture and integrate it with modern culture.
