This study explores the education of historic preservation in the United States. The research examined its history and philosophical and practical approaches within the American urban context, from its historical backgrounds to evolving social perspectives. This case study is to help collegiate educators in understanding the principles of American architectural heritage conservation and why it has been developed in specific directions and, ultimately, to assist in designing preservation education programs for different local contexts. Historic preservation in the United States has been integrated into the architecture and urban planning field as a sustainable development approach incorporating physical, social, and economic matters. First, this study explored the development of the preservation profession, policies, and education since the 1930s. Second, the researchers investigated the three fundamentals of historic preservation, such as authenticity, documentation, and community engagement. Lastly, this research discussed that American preservation deals with living communities and seeks interdisciplinary approaches. The understanding of historic preservation pedagogy from these multiple perspectives would hopefully provide a guide to developing cultural heritage education programs.

The Oriental White Stork (Ciconia boyciana) and the Crested Ibis (Nipponia nippon) are wetland species listed as "Endangered" on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. The two species were once common on the Korean peninsula, but have experienced a severe population reduction in the past decades. Currently, they are officially extinct in Korea. At present, reintroduction programs to release the birds to the wild are in progress in Korea as well as in Japan. In this study, we surveyed the historic breeding sites of the two species using the literature and face-to-face interviews with local people as a step toward determining appropriate breeding habitats for reintroduction. We found 26 historic breeding sites for the Oriental White Stork in Chungcheong-do and Gyeonggi-do, but did not find any breeding sites for the Crested Ibis. These findings suggest that the Oriental White Stork was resident, while the Crested Ibis was a winter visitor to Korea. Based on these results, we discuss the possibilities for successful reintroduction of the two species in Korea.

A historic urban landscape has to be preserved wholly, not only as a cultural heritage site, but also as an environment and a neighborhood. However, cultural heritage sites have their own unique social-commercial environments, and these are not easy to integrate during the preservation process even though they are located in the same area. To examine ways of overcoming the difficulty in integrating the preservation of heritages, this study analyzes the historic urban landscape preservation of St. Augustine, Florida in the United States. The preservation of St. Augustine's historic urban landscape can be identified by its unique system of government-academy cooperation. For integrated preservation of the historic landscape of St. Augustine, Florida's state government owns the properties, which are not designated but have a heritage value, and are located next to the nationally designated heritage sites. The properties receive trust administration by the University of Florida. This cooperation between the government and the university can benefit both stakeholders. To the government, the relationship gives the benefit for professional, long-term management for the properties and their environments. To the university, the cooperation provides a place for practical education, funding, and opportunities for research and management. The government-academy cooperation model argued for this study can be applied to many Korean historic cities' urban landscape preservation planning.

수학사의 교육적 연구를 비판적으로 분석해 보고, 교사 및 교사교육자를 대상으로 하여 실시한 설문조사와 면담결과를 통해 수학사를 교육적으로 활용하고자 할 때 해결되어야 할 문제점을 찾아보고자 하였다. 수학학습에 대한 흥미와 학습동기 유발을 넘어서 수학사를 통해 수학적 개념의 진정한 의미와 그 핵심적인 관점의 이해를 심화시킨다는 측면에서 볼 때 수학사의 교육적 이용에 대한 연구 결과와 교사의 수학사에 대한 인식에는 만족스럽지 못한 측면이 있으며, 교사 교육기관에서의 수학사 교육은 수학사의 개관에 그치고 있어 충분하지 못하며, 학교수학에 대한 역사 발생적 자료의 개발, 나아가 역사 발생적 교재구성에 대한 연구가 절실히 요구된다.

본 연구는 효과적인 학습 환경을 제공하기 위한 방안으로 가상현실 기술을 이용한 역사 학습 콘텐츠구현을 목표로 한다. 교육학적 관점에서 역사학습은 시대적 사실들을 역사적 상황 속에서 이해하고 구성 해나가는 역사적 맥락의 사고력이 중요하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 다양한 유물 및 유적을 통한 역사적 사실이나 정보뿐만 아니라 시대적인 상황을 이해하고 상상력을 동원한 이해가 가능하도록 그 시대의 자연 환경 및 주거 환경을 함께 구현하여 제시한다. 또한 가상환경에서 다양한 정보를 수집할 수 있도록 역사교육에 관한 정보를 다양한 유형의 멀티미디어 콘텐츠로 제작하여 구성주의 학습요소를 고려하여 상호 연결함으로써 학습자가 주도적으로 학습을 수행할 수 있도록 유도한다. 본 시스템에서 사용자는 가상세계의 3차원 환경과 자유로운 상호작용을 통해 학습자의 판단 및 선택에 따라 스스로 정보를 구성해 나가는 것이 가능하다. 이로써 학습자는 가상공간에서의 경험학습을 통해 과학적 사고력과 상상력을 동원하여 적극적으로 학습에 참여하게 된다.

본연구는 한국에서도 이제 지속가능한 발전과 역사문화환경의 관계를 설정하려는 노력이 필요하다는 인식을 토대로 이와 관련되는 사례를 영국을 중심으로 분석하였다. 이러한 분석에 의하면, 지속가능한 발전을 위한 환경 사회 경제적 목표의 통합을 위해서는 지속가능성의 전체론적인 입장은 불가피한 것이다. 앞으로 한국에서도 이러한 전체론적 입장을 유산 또는 문화재 관리의 실제에 침투시키는 것이 중대한 도전이 되어야 할 것이다. 지속가능성은 단순히 물리적 자원에만 적용되는 원리가 아니라 역사환경의 보호에 통합적으로 접근하는 원리로 삼아야 한다. 역사환경의 관리는 우선적으로 지방의 생활을 반영하고 삶의 질을 향상시키며 지방의 정체성, 다양성, 생기를 배양하는데 목표를 두어야 한다. 그러면서도 동시에 재생이 불가능한 유산 자산을 최대한 보호하며 유산자산의 집단적 책무를 발전시키는데 목표를 두어야 한다. 그리고 끝으로 역사환경을 포함한 유산을 보전하는 목표를 지속가능한 발전이라는 목표와 통합시키는 정책의 견실한 골조를 구축해야 한다.

증명 학습에 있어서 많은 어려움이 특히, 증명이 도입되는 중학교 기하 단원의 학습에서 야기되고 있으며, 무엇보다도 많은 학생들이 증명의 의미를 이해하지 못하는 것은 간과하기 어려운 문제점이다. 본 고에서는 기하의 역사 발생적 단계에 따른 증명의 의미 지도가 증명 지도 개선을 위한 하나의 방안이 될 수 있음을 밝히고자 하였다. Branford가 제시한 바와 같이 역사-발생적 전개를 통하여 증명의 의미를 지도하는 방안을 모색해 보고자, Euclid원론이 성립하기까지의 기하의 역사적 발달 과정과 병행하여 실험적, 직관적, 과학적 단계를 거쳐 발전되어 온 증명의 발생 과정을 살펴보고 지도 과정을 분석해 보았다. 그리고 실험적, 직관적 증명 단계를 거쳐 수학적인 증명을 도입하는 지도 과정에 따라 삼각형의 내각의 합에 대한 명제의 증명 지도를 중학교 1학년 학생들을 대상으로 실시해 보았다. 본 고에서는 그러한 결과를 통하여 역사-발생적 접근이 학생들에게 증명의 의미를 이해시키는데 큰 도움이 된다는 것을 확인하였다.

본 연구는 중학교 3학년을 대상으로 Branford의 역사 발생적 기하교육을 활용하여 피타고라스 정리의 증명을 실제로 지도하여, 사례연구 과정에서 나타나는 학생들의 인식의 변화를 살펴보고, 이러한 방법이 학생들의 인식 변화에 어떠한 도움을 주는지에 대해 알아보고자 하였다.

It has been determined that two-way evacuation routes that connect houses to evacuation sites should be developed to protect residents of historic preservation areas from future disasters. These routes are required because traditional buildings and other historic spatial elements are located close to each other. It is important to understand residents' perceptions of evacuation routes that connect their houses to temporary safe places to develop evacuation system strategies that include effective two-way evacuation routes. This paper describes a procedure used to construct a two-way evacuation route database designed to preserve two study areas that was based on an interview survey conducted with area residents. The resulting database contained residents' perceptions of evacuation routes. The database contains categorized spatial problems related to these routes that can be used for future research.
