Structural modeling of $\beta$-galactosidase from L. lactis ssp. lactis 7962 has shown that the residues Cys-472 and His-509 are located in the wall of the active-site cavity. To examine the functions of Cys-472 and His-509, we generated five site-specific mutants: Cys-472-Ser, Cys-472-Thr, Cys-472-Met, His-509-Asn, and His-509-Phe. $\beta$-Galactosidase substituted at Cys-472 with Met or His-509 with Phe had <3% of the activity of the native enzyme when assayed using ONPG as substrate. The other mutants Cys-472-Ser, Cys-472-Thr, and His-509-Asn had ca. 10-15% of the native enzyme activity. The V$_max$ values of the five mutated enzymes were lower (60-7,000-fold) than that of native enzyme. These results show that the catalytic ability of $\beta$-galactosidase is significantly affected by mutations at Cys-472 or His-509.

In this study a total of 27 stream sites, at 1 km intervals, were monitored for simple physicochemical water characteristics, land coverage patterns, and stream environment characteristics using the Habitat-riparian Indexing System (HIS), in the Yangsan Stream. The HIS has been tested in previous research, resulting in some identification of advantages in the application to the stream ecosystems data. Even though reliable stream environment characterization was possible using HIS, there was no information about the application of this tool to present continuity of environmental changes in stream systems. Also the necessity was raised to compare the results of HIS application with land coverage information in order to provide useful information in management strategy development. The monitoring results of this study showed that changes of environmental degradation were well represented by HIS. Especially, stream environment degradation due to construction was relatively well reflected in the HIS monitoring results, and the main causality of Yangsan Stream degradation was expansion of the urbanized area. In addition, there were significant relationships between the HIS scores and land coverage information. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare appropriate options in controlling or managing the expansion of the industrialized areas in this stream basin in order to improve the stream environment. For this purpose, ensemble utilization of HIS results, water quality, and geographical information, resulting in integration with remote sensing processes can be possible.

Rupture or laceration of the aorta is a more common result of nonpenetrating traumatic injury than is generally appreciated. If the lesion is promptly diagnosed, a appropriate surgical treatment may be life-saving. Diagnosis may be difficult and at times the rupture may remain clinically silent for variable period.< A 34 - year old male patient had sustained steering wheel injury to his chest during automobile accident 8 weeks prior to admission. The diagnosis of traumatic aneurysm of the aorta was delayed as he was asymptomatic. Surgical repair of false aneurysm of the descending aorta was successfully performed by partial cardiopulmonary bypass through the femoral artery and vein.

For the last decades, criticism on Frankenstein has tried to make a link between Victor's Creature and Rousseaurean "man in a state of nature." Like the Rousseaurean savage in a state of animal, the monster has only basic instincts least needed for his survival, i.e. self-preservation, but turns into a civilized man after learning language. Most critics argue that, despite the monster's acquisition of language, his failure in entry into a cultural and linguistic community is the outcome of a lack of sympathy for him by others, which displays the stark existence of epistemological barriers between them. That is to say, the monster imagines his being the same as others in the pre-linguistic stage but, in the linguistic stage, he realizes that he is different from others. Interpreting the Rousseaurean idea of language, which appears in his writings, as much more focused on emotion than many critics think, I read the dispute between Victor and his Creature as a variation of parent-offspring conflict. Shelley criticizes Rousseau's parental negligence in putting his children into a foundling hospital and leaving them dying there. The monster's revenge on uncaring Victor parallels the likely retaliation Rousseau's displaced children would perform against Rousseau, which Shelley imaginatively reproduces in her novel. The conflict between the monster and Victor is due to a disrupted attachment between parent and child in terms of Darwinian developmental psychology. Affective asynchrony between parent and child, which refers to a state of lack of mutual favorable feelings, accounts for numerous dysfunctional families. This paper shifts a focus from a semiotics-oriented perspective on the monster's social isolation to a Darwinian perspective, drawing attention to emotional problems transpiring in familial interactions. In doing so, it finds that language is a means of communicating one's internal emotions to others along with other means such as facial expressions and body movements. It also demonstrates that how to promote emotional well-being in either familial or social relationships entirely depends on the way in which one employs language that can entail either pleasure or anger on hearers' part.

The trend of organogenesis in Xenopus presumptive ectoderm was studied by combined dose of activin A and IGF-1(insulin-like growth factor-1). In reference study of Asashima and his colleagues, the inductive patterns of various organs were reported with activin, the potent mesoderm inducing factor. In present study, the inducing pattern was cleared with combined-dose of concentration 1-100 ng/ml activin A and IGF-1. In addition, the result from single treatment of activin A was compared with former study. As a result, eye was differentiated in 5-20% of explants at 10 and 50 ng/ml concentrative combination of activin A. Otic vesicle was appeared in the entire concentrative combination of IGF-1. Pronephric duct was induced 19-38% of explants at the concentration of activin A 100 ng/ml by adding IGF-1. The comparison of single treatment of activin A was showed some difference in dose-dependent inducing pattern.

본 논문의 목적은 고려 말에 삶을 영위한 민사평(閔思平, 1295~1359)의 현실인식을 고찰하는 데 있다. 민사평은 당시 여러 학자들과 활발한 교섭을 통해 학문적 교류가 가능했다. 그는 21세 때 과거시험에 합격한 후 여러 관직을 수행해 오면서 행동이 바르고 지조가 변하지 않았다. 민사평은 이제현, 백문보, 이색 등과 자주 만남을 가지며 생각을 주고 받았다. 가끔 백문보는 모여서 술 마실 때 함께하지 않은 적이 없었다. 이색은 민자평이 현묘한 시법을 깨달은 자라고 높게 평가한 바 있으며, 그의 시는 후세까지 계속 전해질 것이라고 확신하였다. 민사평이 활동했던 시대는 고려 말로서 국내외적으로 매우 혼란스러웠던 때였다. 국외적으로 고려 말은 당시 빈번했던 왜구와 흉노의 침입으로 인해 피폐해진 국토와 고통 받는 백성들로 온 나라가 불안정했다. 국내적으로는 당시 위정자들의 부패와 백성들의 고통이 심각했다. 그는 당시 백성들의 궁핍한 생활상을 비판적으로 언급하며 애민적 현실인식을 보였다. 그는 의리가 없는 삶은 정상적인 삶이 아니라고 주장하였다. 만약 욕심이 있다면 부귀영화도 언젠간 쇠퇴할 것이라고 지적하였다. 그는 당시 백성의 심정을 깊이 동정하고 그들의 입장을 대변하여 구제될 수 있기를 희망하였다. 여기서 민사평의 애민적 현실인식이 분명하게 드러나고 있음을 살필 수 있었다.

This is a case report on a deep vein thrombosis(DVT) patient whose pain, numbness, and swelling in the left leg have been decreased with Korean Medicine. The 59 year-old male patient who was diagnosed with DVT and showed the classic symptoms of DVT(pain, numbness and swelling in the left leg). Although he was treated with medication(100mg of aspirin, 20mg of rivaroxaban) for five weeks, his symptoms did not improved. Then, he was gaven Sunkihwalhyul-tang three times a day and Jungsongouhyul pharmacopuncture once a day for two months. Conservative therapy including leg elevation and an elastic stocking was co-administered. During our treatment period, the size of the thrombus in the left external iliac vein was decreased according to sonography compared with the pre-hospital's sonography, and the patient felt his symptoms had improved. This case report suggests Korean Medicine may play a role in improving the deep vein thrombosis symptoms.

The purpose of this study was to explore how job characteristics, housework factors (reciprocity) and family characteristics influence the health status of a husband and wife. To do this, the study used the ordered probit estimation model. The results of this study were as follows: the status of the husband's health was perceived to be slightly better than that of the wife. age, the husband's job satisfaction and wife's future job prospects were found to impact upon the health status of both the husband and the wife. In addition, the health of the husband was found to be significantly influenced by household income and his wife's perceived fairness of housework. On the other hand, the influencing factors upon the health status of the wife were her education, child caring responsibilities, her husband's future job prospects, as well as the flexibility of her work schedule and hours of work.

웹 프로토콜인 HTTP은 이전 상태 정보를 저장하지 못하는 stateless 특성을 해결하기 위해서 쿠키(cookie)가 제안되었다. 그러나 쿠키는 평문 형태로 전송이 되며, 사용자 컴퓨터에 일반 텍스트 형태로 저장된다. 따라서, 공격자에게 쉽게 노출되어 쿠키 파일의 복사, 수정이 가능하여 보안적인 안전성에 심각한 위험이 존재한다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 쿠키의 보안 문제를 해결하기 위해서 공개키 인증서 기반의 새로운 보안 쿠키를 설계한 후 이를 구현하였다. 제안된 보안 쿠키는 사용자와 웹 서버간의 상호 인증 및 사용자 정보의 기밀성 및 무결성을 제공한다. 또한 웹 서버의 사용자 관리에 따른 부가적인 관리비용을 최소화시키기 위해 사용자 관리 정보를 보안 쿠키에 포함시킬 수 있다. 부가적으로 제안 방안의 성능 평가를 위해 기존의 HTTP 환경에서의 보안을 위해서 널리 사용되고 있는 SSL과의 수행 시간을 비교 분석하였다.
