  • The hipplytid shrimp Lysmata amboinensis (De Man, 1888) is recorded in Korean waters for the first time, based on specimens collected from Jeju-do Island in southern Korea. L. amboinensis is distinguished from L. vittata, previously the only known species of Lysmata in Korea by the color in life. The Korean Hippolytidae now includes 25 species in nine genera.

  • Nine zoeal stages of Lysmata vittata (Stimpson, 1860) are described from laboratory-reared material. The ornamentation of the carapace and the fifth abdominal somite readily distinguish the first zoeas of L. vittata from the two previously known first larvae of Lysmata (L. anchisteus and L. seticaudata). Larval characters of the genus Lysmata are summarized. The setation of 1,2,3(6) on the basis of the second maxilliped indicates that Lysmata is closely related to Exhippolysmata.

  • The first zoeas of Eualus leptognathus are described and illustrated in detail from laboratory-hatched material. Morphological comparison is made with previous description of this species from Japan. Minute rostrum and two anteroventral denticles behind pterygostomian spine on the carapace readily distinguish the first zoeas of Eualus leptognathus from those of Eualus sinensis, the only known zoeas of Eualus from Korean waters.

First Zoea of Heptacarpus rectirostris(Decapoda, Caridea, Hippolytidae) Hatched in the Laboratory, with Notes on the Larval Characters of Heptacarpus (좁은뿔꼬마새우(십각목, 생이하목, 꼬마새우과)의 제1조에아 유생과 좁은뿔꼬마새우속의 유생형질)

  • The first zoeal stage of Heptacarpus rectirostris (Stimpson, 1860) is re-described and illustrated in detail from laboratory-hatched material. The first zoea of H. rectirostris is more closely related to that of H. futilirostris than to H. camtschaticus, H. pandaloides, and H. geniculatus by having the pterygostomial spine and two anteroventral denticles on the carapace. The former two species, however, can be readily distinguished by the presence (H. futilirostris) or absence (H. rectirostris) of the posterolateral spine on the abdominal somites 4-5. A provisional key to the first zoeas of Heptacarpus for which larval studies are known from Korea and adjacent waters is provided. A list of larval descriptions within the Hippolytidae from Korea and adjacent waters is also included.

  • A hippolytid shrimp, Heptacarpus jordani (Rathbun, 1902), is recorded as new to Korean fauna. A redescription of Heptacarpus geniculatus (Stimpson, 1860) is provided. A key to six Heptacarpus species known from Korea is given. The Korean Hippolytidae consists now of 21 species representing nine genera.

  • A hippolytid shrimp, Lebbeus grandimana, is described from the southern part of the East Sea and this is the first record of the species in Korea. The genus Lebbeus of the family Hippolytidae currently comprises four species in Korea. A key to identify the four species of the genus Lebbeus from Korean waters is provided.

  • The decapodid stage of Lebbeus comanthi Hayashi and Okuno and the first zoea of Thor amboinensis (De Man) are described based on laboratory-hatched eggs from females collected from Japan. The decapodid stage of L. comanthi is readily distinguished from that of L. groenlandicus by the carapace without anteroventral denticle and tooth behind rostrum, the absence of the antennal spine, the four-segmented outer flagellum of the antennule, the absence of the palp of the mandible, and the telson with posterior margin con caved medially and without dorsolateral spine. The carapace with anteroventral denticle and the third abdominal somite distinctly curved in lateral view distinguish the first zoea of T. amboinensis from that of T. dobkini Chace and T. floridanus Kingsley. Larval characters of the genus Thor are summarized.

  • Eight zoeal stages and one decapodid of the hippolytid shrimp Latreutes acicularis Ortmann, 1890 are described from laboratory-reared material hatched from egg from ovigerous females collected from Shimoda, Japan. The presence of a minute dorsomedian protuberance on the third abdominal somite, the spinules on the dorsal margin of the fourth and fifth abdominal somites, and a pair of dorsolateral spines on the fourth and fifth abdominal somites readily distinguish the larvae of L. acicularis from those of L. anoplonyx Kemp, 1914 and L. laminirostris Ortmann, 1890, the other two known larvae of Latreutes from East Asia.
