Arthritis of hip joints deteriorates the quality of life in ankylosing spondylitis (AS) patients. Secondary to the articular inflammatory process, the shortened hip-girdle muscles contribute to the decreased joint mobility which may lead to the functional impairment. As the limitation of range of motion (ROM) usually progress slowly, clinicians regard it as a chronic condition and prescribe long-term therapy. However, by short-term intensive multimodal treatment, a 20-year-old man diagnosed as AS with severely limited hip joint ROM who relied on crutches doubled the joint angle and could walk independently only within 2 weeks. The combination included intra-articular steroid injection, electrical twitch obtaining intramuscular stimulation, extracorporeal shock wave therapy, heat, manual therapy, and stretching exercises. The management focused on the relaxation of hip-girdle muscles as well as the direct control of intra-articular inflammation. Hereby, we emphasize the effectiveness of intensive multimodal treatment in improving the function even within a short period.

This study deals with the vibration ride quality for passenger car when running on straight highway at the speed of 70km/h. Ten accelerations were measured at four positions, three axes each at the feet, hip, and head, and one axis at the back. Five seats that have different static sponge stiffness were used, and two subjects were participated. These accelerations were analyzed to produce the ride values such as component ride value and overall ride value. It was hard to see the difference of ride value by the change of sponge stiffness. However we could rank the ride quality by the total vibration exposed to passengers. From the transfer function between the hip and the foot, the fundamental mode was observed to be around 5.8Hz. Also the transfer function between the head and hip was studied. The optimal damping ratio of the seat was calculated according to the seat natural frequency with human weighting filter which makes the optimal damping ratio different from that without weighting filter.
Antagonists of the d -opioid receptor are effective in overcoming resistance against analgesic drugs such as morphine. To identify novel antagonists of the d -opioid receptor that display high potency and low resistance, we performed 3D-QSAR analysis using chemical feature-based pharmacophore models. Chemical features for d -opioid receptor antagonists were generated using quantitative (Catalyst/HypoGen) and qualitative (Catalyst/HipHop) approaches. For HypoGen analysis, we collected 16 peptide and 16 non-peptide antagonists as the training set. The best-fit pharmacophore hypotheses of the two antagonist models comprised identical features, including a hydrophobic aromatic (HAR), a hydrophobic (HY), and a positive ionizable (PI) function. The training set of the HipHop model was constructed with three launched opioid drugs. The best hypothesis from HipHop included four features: an HAR, an HY, a hydrogen bond donor (HBD), and a PI function. Based on these results, we confirm that HY, HAR and PI features are essential for effective antagonism of the d -opioid receptor, and determine the appropriate pharmacophore to design such antagonists.

Case of patients with weakness in cardiopulmonary system, other ambulatory function is normal, but oxygen supply function is problem. So they need reduce energy consumption for gait by assistance system. In this study, we designed and developed walking assistant device which helps flexion and extension of hip joint for cardiopulmonary patients. There are two motors, each at the left and right side of pelvis, providing torque to the hip joint. The target angle of the flexion and extension in the hip joint is set according to the normal gait. As a result, reduction of energy consumption was 14.8% by gait assistive device.
A 3-year-old, 26 kg, castrated male Chow Chow was presented for assessment of weight-bearing lameness of the left hind limb. The patient had a history of triple pelvic osteotomy on the left side to correct hip dysplasia 2 years prior to his presentation of clinical signs and underwent total hip replacement on the right coxofemoral joint 1 year later. Upon physical examination, pain and crepitus were noted on the left hip joint during extension. Radiological examination revealed coxofemoral joint subluxation and moderate degenerative bone changes on the left hip joint and pelvic axis, which relates to acetabular angles that were changed after triple pelvic osteotomy (TPO). Preoperative computed tomography was used for 3-dimensional printing to establish an accurate surgical plan. The changed angles of the acetabulum after TPO were evaluated, and rehearsal surgery was performed using a 3-demensional printing bone model. Three months after the THR surgery, the function of the affected limb had improved, with no lameness. Complications, such as luxation and implant failure, were not observed until 6 months after the operation. Accurate evaluation of acetabulum angles and rehearsal surgery using a 3D-printed bone model is effective for total hip replacement after unsuccessful TPO.

Purpose: To investigate the results of treatment of reverse oblique trochanteric fractures with compression hip screw. Methods: We reviewed the results of 12 cases of reverse oblique trochanteric fracture treated with compression hip screw from January 2000 to December 2006 which could be followed up for more than 1 year. The mean follow up period was 26 months (15~40). The mean age was 48 years old. Injury mechanism was composed of 6 cases of traffic accident and 6 cases of fall down. 8 persons were man. We investigated the union time, degree of neck-shaft angle change, amount of sliding of compression hip screw, complications, functional and clinical results. Results: 10 cases were united and the mean union time were 5 months (3~8). The mean neck-shaft angle change was 3.5 degrees (0~12). The amount of sliding of compression hip screw was 8.9 mm (2~24). There were six coxa vara, six leg due to coxa vara shortening, two nonunion, and one superficial infection. Unsatisfactory results of Jensen's social function score and Parker and Palmer's mobility score were studied. Conclusion: The results of treatment of reverse oblique trochanteric fractures with compression hip screw were relatively unsatisfied.

This study suggests the design of the functionally gradient composite, [0/90/0/core]$_s$ cross-ply laminate, to prevent stress concentration induced from the difference of rigidity between the bone and the artificial hip joint and to reinforce the wear property of the surface and the expectation of their mechanical properties. First, the four-point bending test is done about wet bones and dry bones to know the mechanical properties of the cortical bones. In result, the wet bone shows the viscoelastic behavior and the dry bone shows the elastic behavior. Moreover, we expect the properties of the proposed gradient composites as a function of carbon fiber volume fraction in each layer to apply Halpin-Tsai equation, CLPT(classical laminate plate theory), and Bernoulli beam theory etc. and decide the thickness ratio of each lamina in order to match Young's modulus of the anisotropic cortical bone with the proposed gradient composites.
This study held physical measurement for male subjects in their 20s living in Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province in China, showing the biggest market in men's clothes. Their representative lower body types with average shapes and sizes were chosen so as to develop men's slacks patterns with better dimension fitness. The following are the results of the analysis: 1. Slacks patterns were made based on the mean measurement values of 5 people, who were closest to the representative body types, from the index*absolute group of 47 people. The dimensions of application for slacks pattern-making were 77cm(omphalion waist circumference), 91cm(hip circumference), and 103cm(slacks length). 2. For the comparison of high-fitness and more-room pattern dimensions, 5 styles of slacks were made: Korean, Chinese, British, Japanese, and industrial. In the dressing fitness tests, industrial patterns had excellent appearance and Japanese ones had the best function. 3. Based on the analysis results of slacks pattern comparison, the target slacks were experimentally made and received superior evaluation points to the compared slacks patterns in two times of evaluation for appearance and function. 4. The final slacks pattern in this research had the following dimensions: front waist circumference: W(1-2cm with room included)/4-1cm, back waist circumference: W/4+1cm, front hip circumference: H(9$\sim$10cm with room included)/4-1cm, back hip circumference: H/4+1cm, crotch length: H/4-1.5cm, hip length: crotch length-H/12, front crotch extension: H/16-1.5cm, back crotch extension: H/8+3cm, knee line: 33cm below crotch line, front tuck amount: 4cm, back dart amount: 2.5cm(center) and 1.5cm(side), and back dart length: 10cm (center) and 6cm(side).

In cementless total hip replacement(THR), an initial stability of the femoral component is important to long term fixation of femoral stem. The intial stability has close relationship with the relative displacement of prosthessis and sponge bone at the proximal of femur. After implantation of the proshesis, the surrounding bone is partially shielded from load carrying and starts to resorb. Stress shielding is the cause of the loss of proximal bone. Assessing stress distribution of femur is important to predict stress shielding. The initial stability and the stress shielding were investigated for two loading conditions approximating a single leg stance and a stair climbing. Three types of stems were studied by the finite element method to analyze the biomechanical effects of distal filling of cementless femoral stems. Three types of stems empolyed are a distal filling stem, a distal flexible stem, and a distal tapered stem.

This paper deals with the whole-body vibration and ride quality evaluation in the vertical direction. The responses of the floor, hip, back, and head in four subjects were measured for various seats when the floor was excited by random vibration with r.m.s of 1.2m/s2 in the vertical direction. In the transmissibility between the hip and floor, the fundamental mode is observed at 4.4 Hz. In the transmissibility between the head and floor, the fundamental mode at 4.4Hz and the second mode at 7.6Hz are observed. It is shown that the head motion is 41% larger than the hip motion and the response of female subject is larger than that of male subject. The response without backrest also was compared with that with backrest. From these human responses ride quality of five seats were evaluated by the ride value such as transfer ration having frequency weighting function is the statistical sense. It is observed that the seat having high damping property can reduce the most acceleration exposed to hip in the statistical sense for all ride valves, while the seat having different seat spring doesn't show statistical difference.
