  • An active-C biquadratic filter structure is proposed which consists of only seven OTAs and two grounded capacitors. The proposed circuit can simultaneously realize lowpass, bandpass and highpass transfer functions without changing circuit topology. This technique provides many advantages which include low passive and active sensitivities and, moreover, its Q-factor is electronically tunable and separately from the tuning of the natural angular frequency ${\omega}_o$. PSPICE simulation results are obtained that confirm the theoretical analysis.

  • Any mechanical system has a natural oscillation which can be excited, and the earth is no exception. The earth can oscillate in an indefinite number of normal modes of oscillation, rather like a giant bell. The various free modes are generally sparated into two categoridal modes and toroidal modes. Clearly the toroidal modes will produce no perturvation of the gravity field and no vertical acceleration on the surface of the earth. Hence only spheroidal modes can be detected with a gravimeter. EarthTide gravimeter was installed at AIMST in order to observe free modes of the earth. Eight major earthquakes including chinese earthquake (magnitude 7.3) with free oscillations of the earth are observed during one year (1998. 8. 1∼1999.7.31). And then the earth tides components were eilminated from earthquake records using a numerical Butterworth highpass filter. Spectral analysis of gravity readings repersent that 48 observations of shheroidal modes. The relationships between instrumental observations and theoretical predictions based on the Gutenberg earth model agree well those resulting from free oscillation in Korea.

  • In this paper, CMOS analog filters for use in the Analog front End of digital subscriber loop(DSL) chip set are proposed. Designed filters contain receiver continuous-time filters which are composed of lowpass and highpass functions. And their cutoff frequency are 138H1z and 1.1MHz respectively. A low-voltage gm-c integrator is improved and used to design filters. Desisned filters are verified by HSPICE simulation with the 0.25${\mu}m$ CMOS n-well parameter.

  • Evoked Potentials signals occur as a result of neuroelectric responses of the brain to sensory stimulation. In this paper, to analysis such signals we utilize a time-frequency analysis technique called wavelet transform. The wavelet analysis is performed based on a single prototype function, which can be thought of as a bandpass filter. Because the wavelet transform in a fine temporal analysis decomposes time-varying signals in EP into a dilated lowpass and a contracted highpass components, EP signal fetures can be obtained and analysed quantitatively at the levels of resolution. In the results, we analyze the VEP signal with the wavelet transform.

  • This paper investigates the soundness of porcelain insulators associated with the acoustic emission (AE) technique. The AE technique is a popular non-destructive method that measures and analyzes the burst energy that occurs mainly when a crack occurs in a high-frequency region. Typical AE methods require continuous monitoring with frequent sensor calibration. However, in this study, the AE technique excites a porcelain insulator using only an impact hammer, and it applies a high-pass filter to the signal frequency range measured only in the AE sensor by comparing the AE and the acceleration sensors. Next, the extracted time-domain signal is analyzed for the damage assessment. In normal signals, the duration is about 2ms, the area of the envelope is about 1,000, and the number of counts is about 20. In the damage signal, the duration exceeds 5ms, the area of the envelope is about 2,000, and the number of counts exceeds 40. In addition, various characteristics in the time and frequency domain for normal and damage cases are analyzed using the short-time Fourier transform (STFT). Based on the results of the STFT analysis, the maximum energy of a normal specimen is less than 0.02, while in the case of the damage specimen, it exceeds 0.02. The extracted high-frequency components can present dynamic behavior of crack regions and eigenmodes of the isolated insulator parts, but the presence, size, and distribution of cracks can be predicted indirectly. In this regard, the characteristics of the surface crack region were derived in this study.

  • In this paper, we designed and fabricated a ultra-wideband(UWB) bandpass filter with a good performance of a stopband, and a notched band in passband. The transformed equivalent circuit of the highpass filter was realized by distributed element. A wide-passband with 3-dB fractional bandwidth of more than 100 % was achieved by using optimum response of the HPF. For improving lower and upper stopband characteristic, a cross coupling between feed lines was employed, which was analyzed by desegmentation technique. In order to reject interference of Wireless LAN and Hyper LAN(5.15~5.825 GHz), the narrow notched(rejection) band was realized by a spurline. The fabricated BPF indicated the passband from 3.1 to 10.55 GHz and the flat group delay of less than 0.94 ns over the entire passband except the rejection band. The filter shown sharp attenuation both inside and outside the band and notched band from 5.2 to 6.12 GHz.

  • This paper proposes efficient VLSI architectures for computation of the 2- D discrete wavelet transform (DWT). The two proposed VLSI architectures for the 2- D DWT are constructed based on block-based computation Each $M{\times}N$ ($N{\times}M$) block DWT is performed along the row (column) direction simultaneously, where M and N denote the number of filter taps and the number of columns (rows), respectively The proposed architectures compute the lowpass and highpass output sequences of the 1 - DWT along the row and column directions using a single architecture In alternate clock cycles Therefore the extra processing units required for the proposed architectures are much smaller than those of the conventional architectures They are modeled In very high speed Integrated circuit hardware description language (HIDL) and Simulated to show their functional validity.
