  • This study was conducted to investigate the impact of the anthropogenic factors affecting distribution of the Red-crowned Crane and White-naped Crane wintering in Cheorwon, Korea. Especially, it was investigated that the impact power and its range of the anthropogenic effect to the feeding flock density in cranes due to the paved road, residential area, military facilities and greenhouse density. The Red-crowned Crane and the White-naped Crane showed the similar preference and sensitivity against anthropogenic factors, because correlation of feeding flock density of the Red-crowned Crane and White-naped Crane was similar in the same site. The feeding flock density of the cranes near the residential area was lower than that of area far from the area, and tended to increase within 2.5 km distance. The increasing tendencies of feeding flock density from military facilities and high traffic volume road were similar, but the density in military facilities increased within 0.8 km, and the density from high traffic volume road increased within 2 km. This results suggested that military facilities and the road with high traffic volume made significant influence on foraging densities to the certain range. As the distance from the road with low traffic volume increased, feeding flock density tended to decrease. The area near the low traffic volume road had high feeding flock density because remaining rice grains were preserved by intermittent disturbances in that area. If the density of greenhouse is lower than $40/km^2$, feeding flock density in the low greenhouses density area was higher than high greenhouses density area. However, there was no difference in the feeding flock density if the density of the green houses is higher than $40/km^2$.

  • A variety of researches on the concrete with high volume mineral admixture have increased in recent years. In fact, it is very important to find appropriate replacement ratio of concrete with high volume mineral admixture in order to apply in the field. In this study, compressive strength according to fly ash and blast furnace slag replacement ratio as well as curing temperature was measured in the conditions of obtaining the same workability in order to examine the characteristics of concrete with high volume mineral admixture. In conclusion, it was found that the compressive strength at the age of 3 days decreased by 1.4MPa and the compressive strength at the age of 28 days decreased by 3.8MPa when the fly ash replacement ratio increased by 10%. Also, it was found that the compressive strength at the age of 3 days decreased by 1.0MPa and the compressive strength at the age of 28 days decreased by 0.9MPa when the blast furnace slag replacement ratio increased by 10%. Through the tests, we obtained the basic data for developing the future research on the concrete with high volume mineral admixture for housing structure.

  • It is known that the best way to recycle fly ash is to use in concrete. It is impossible to bury in the ground this fly ash recently, so it is trying to use high volume fly ash concrete. Nevertheless, recent main research topics are focused in the part of material only. However, it is necessary to perform the researches about elasticity modulus, stress-strain relationship and structural behavior. Therefore, in this paper, 18 test members were manufactured with 3 test variables, namely fly ash replacement ratio 0, 35, 50%, concrete compressive strength 20, 40, 60MPa and 2 tensile steel ratio. 18 test members were tested for flexural behavior. From the test results, there were no differences between 35, 50% high volume fly ash cement concrete and ordinary concrete without fly ash (FA=0%). In order to evaluate the HVFAC flexural behavior, Analytical model was proposed and the computer program was developed. There were no differences between test results and analysis results. So, the proposed analytical model was reasonable.

  • When a domestically manufactured floater is used in a general gasoline or LPG car, or a flowmeter is floated long time in the engine oil under above $150^{\circ}C$, the floater will be swelled or its organization will be slackened because weight and volume will be changed due to the osmosis of fuel. In this study, we conducted a research on a manufacturing technique of a foam-floater with the small changse in weight and volume, oil-resistance, and thermal resistance in the high temperature engine oil. When the prepared floater TROF II-3, where Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR) as basic material of the floater was superseded by Hydrogenated Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (HNBR), was floated for 100 h at the engine oil of high temperature ($150^{\circ}C$), the change rates of the weight and the volume were 2.90%, and 2.56%, respectively. These were less than the NBR (TROF I-3) case, where the change rates of the weight and the volume were 10.81% and 3.08%, respectively, Therefore, TROF II-3 was determined to be suitable as an engine-oil floater in high temperature because the change of weight and volume were small, the appearance, and the specific gravity of floater were maintained uniformly in the high temperature.

  • In the present study, we investigated the effects of high forage diets on the volume of udder, hormone level in blood, and lactation characteristics in the Holstein dairy cow. We divided into two groups; high forage diet [HF, concentrate: forage=4:6 n=41] and low forage diet [LF, 6:4 n=21]. Five cows were selected from each group based on their age for measuring the udder volume and the serum levels of estradiol and progesterone. Lactation characteristics were compared between HF and LF. The udder volume was 2.5 fold larger in HF at early gestation (p<0.01), but no difference was noted afterward. For the hormone levels, no significant difference was found between the groups. In HF, milk yield was significantly increased and maintained high longer, while somatic cell count was approximately 50% lower. Meanwhile, the milk fat content was significantly lower in HF during early lactating phase (p<0.001), but there was no difference thereafter. For milk protein and solid content, and MUN, no differences were found between the groups during lactation. Our results indicated that feeding high forage diets to dairy cows can increase milk yield and quality without notable changes in the udder volume and hormone level.

  • Various researches on the application of polymer dispersions to the cement mortar and concrete have been carried out in many countries like America, Japan and Germany and so on due to their high performance and good modification effect. PAE of polymer dispersion widely used in situ was employed that the high flowability may be induced in the cement mortar. In order to investigate the modification of cement mortar with high flowability by PAE and fracture mode of adhesive strength properties in tension of that, experimental parameters were set as PAE solid-cement ratio(P/C) and cement: fine aggregate(C:F) and the experiments such as unit weight, flow, consistency change, crack resistance and segregation that inform on the general properties have been done. Adhesion in tension is measured with a view to comprehending the properties and fracture mode in tensile load. Consistency change of cement mortar modified by PAE did grow better as the ratio of PAE solid-cement increased and was much superior to that of resin based flooring such as polyurethane and epoxy which recorded the loss of consistency in 90 min. after mixing. Adhesive strength in tension increased with continuity during curing period and showed the maximum in case of C:F=1:1 and P/C=20%.

  • Mesoporous carbon nanofibers as electrode material for electrical double-layer capacitors(EDLCs) are fabricated using the electrospinning method and carbonization. Their morphologies, structures, chemical bonding states, porous structure, and electrochemical performance are investigated. The optimized mesoporous carbon nanofiber has a high sepecific surface area of $667m^2\;g^{-1}$, high average pore size of 6.3 nm, and high mesopore volume fraction of 80 %, as well as a unifom network structure consiting of a 1-D nanofiber stucture. The optimized mesoporous carbon nanofiber shows outstanding electrochemical performance with high specific capacitance of $87F\;g^{-1}$ at a current density of $0.1A\;g^{-1}$, high-rate performance ($72F\;g^{-1}$ at a current density of $20.0A\;g^{-1}$), and good cycling stability ($92F\;g^{-1}$ after 100 cycles). The improvement of the electrochemical performance via the combined effects of high specific surface area are due to the high mesopore volume fraction of the carbon nanofibers.

  • Linear interpolation is a basic sampling method for volume visualization. This method generates good images but sometimes it is inferior to our high expectation because it is encouraged to produce high quality images in the medical applications. In this paper, B spline based tri-cubic interpolation is used for the re-sampling step. The conventional B spline is an approximation method which does not cross control points so that we moved the control points and the curve crosses the original control points. In the rendering step, the empty space leaping is applicable to increase rendering speed. We have to calculate the maximum and minimum values for each block to detect empty space. The convex hull property of B spline enables the values of control points to be used as the maximum and minimum values. As a result, tri-cubic interpolated volume rendering is possible in interactive speed.

  • Objective: The primary objective of this study was to perform a retrospective evaluation of the radiological and pathological features influencing the formation of peritumoral brain edema (PTBE) in meningiomas. Methods: The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and pathology data for 86 patients with meningiomas, who underwent surgery at our institution between September 2003 and March 2009, were examined. We evaluated predictive factors related to peritumoral edema including gender, tumor volume, shape of tumor margin, presence of arachnoid plane, the signal intensity (SI) of the tumor in T2-weighted image (T2WI), the WHO histological classification (GI, GII/GIII) and the Ki-67 antigen labeling index (LI). The edema-tumor volume ratio was calculated as the edema index (EI) and was used to evaluate peritumoral edema. Results: Gender (p=0.809) and pathological finding (p=0.084) were not statistically significantly associated with peritumoral edema by univariate analysis. Tumor volume was not correlated with the volume of peritumoral edema. By univariate analysis, three radiological features, and one pathological finding, were associated with PTBE of statistical significance: shape of tumor margin (p=0.001), presence of arachnoid plane (p=0.001), high SI of tumor in T2WI (p=0.001), and Ki-67 antigen LI (p=0.049). These results suggest that irregular tumor margins, hyperintensity in T2WI, absence of arachnoid plane on the MRI, and high Ki-67 LI can be important predictive factors that influence the formation of peritumoral edema in meningiomas. By multivariate analysis, only SI of the tumor in T2WI was statistically significantly associated with peritumoral edema. Conclusion: Results of this study indicate that irregular tumor margin, hyperintensity in T2WI, absence of arachnoid plane on the MRI, and high Ki-67 LI may be important predictive factors influencing the formation of peritumoral edema in meningiomas.

  • The flexural performance of amorphous steel fibers having environmental and economy benefits due to relatively short manufacturing process were evaluated as well as that of hooked steel fibers by varing fiber length and volume fraction. Fiber lengths were 10 mm, 20 mm, 30 mm and fiber volume fractions were varied from 0.3% to 1.2%. Test results with flexural performance showed that mixing design needs to be careful because of relatively high volume of amorphous steel fiber compared to hooked steel fibers. High flexural strength was obtained from both longer fiber length and higher volume fraction. Residual strength and toughness of amorphous steel fiber were similar to that of hooked steel fiber, even though rapid dropping of applied load right after concrete matrix breaking. It can be judged that relatively high ability of energy dissipation around first cracking area relatively overcome rapid dropping of loading.
