Exploratory Study on the Success Factors of Rehabilitation Medical Device Cluster

  • Purpose - As Korea is reaching a post-aged society, the number of chronic illness is increasing, and the demand for rehabilitation medical device is growing. Although there is high potential for the growth in rehabilitation industry, because most of the related companies in Korea are relatively small, lacking capital or R&D resource, it is difficult for them to create an innovative product, and currently most of the high-tech equipments are imported. Therefore a medical device cluster, where business, research, medical institutes and universities may work cooperatively to enhance research development and solve issues is necessary for future development. Research design, data, methodology - In this method we have done a literature review of the rehabilitation industry and industrial cluster. Based on the studies, we have conducted an exploratory factor analysis by studying examples of foreign and domestic medical clusters and drawing success factors in forming a medical cluster. Next based on the studies we have conducted a survey to domestic medical device companies to find their difficulties and needs to form a successful medical device cluster. Results - This paper provides both theoretic review on success factors of forming a medical device cluster and practical analysis using case study and survey. Conclusion - The significance of this paper is that based on the literature review, we have compared actual examples of domestic/foreign medical clusters and drawn difference and coincidence between literature and actual cluster success factor. We were also able to conduct a survey on actual medical device companies and through the results we were able to search difficulties and necessities of medical device companies.

  • An old castle in a tranquil setting. At first glance, no-one would suspect that this was the backdrop for the research and services centre providing expertise from all areas of the textile-clothing supply chain, textile care and other associated sectors. The Hohenstein Institutes are a modern communications centre with the latest research equipment where highly qualified scientists carry out their research and exchange knowledge. This combination of high-calibre staff and the philosophy of the unity of research, training and application have guaranteed the Hohenstein team of their position as an internationally respected institution offering high levels of expertise in all areas of the textile-clothing chain. At the beginning of the 21st century, the team of scientists at Hohenstein made the research and development of high-tech textile and garment innovations their number one priority. They recognise a rapidly developing market for "intelligent textiles" and "Smart Clothes" capable of adapting their function to the existing environmental conditions. Clients for the research projects, which are often carried out in conjunction with other institutions and industry, are research associations, federal ministries, the European Union and numerous leading companies both in Germany and abroad. The Hohenstein Institutes dispose of four international offices at the moment: in Turkey (since 1996), USA (since 1999), Lima (since 2002) and Mexico (since 2003).

Lightweight Floor Systems for Tall Buildings: A Comparative Analysis of Structural Material Efficiencies

  • Typical floor systems in contemporary tall buildings consist of reinforced concrete or composite metal deck over framing members and account for a majority of the structural weight of the building. The use of high-density materials, such as reinforced concrete and steel, increases the weight of floor systems, reducing the system's overall efficiency. With the introduction of high-performance materials, mainly mass timber products, and fiber-reinforced composites, in the construction industry, designers and engineers have multiple options to choose from when selecting structural materials. This paper discusses the application of mass timber and carbon fiber composites as structural materials in floor systems of tall buildings. The research focused on a comparative analysis of the structural system efficiency for five different design options for tall building floor systems. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) method was adopted to develop a simulation framework, and parametric structural models were simulated to evaluate the structural performance under specific loading conditions. Simulation results revealed the advantages of lightweight structural materials to improve system efficiency and reduce material consumption. The impact of mechanical properties of materials, loading conditions, and issues related to fire engineering and construction were briefly discussed, and future research topics were identified in conclusion.

  • Gu-mi hydrogen fluoride leak accident in 2012 was amplified social anxiety for chemical accidents. To relieve these anxieties Off-site Risk Assessment was introduced in 2015. Off-site Risk Assessment is targeted at most chemicals, and most of the high-pressure-toxic gases which are mainly used in high-tech industries such as semi conductor, display, Photovoltaic panels industry are included in the substance of the Off-site Risk Assessment. Since Korean companies occupy a high market share in high-tech industries, high pressure-toxic domestic gas consumption is constantly increasing. Accordingly, it is expected to increase the possibility of accidents. In accordance with the circumstances, this study was to conducted Consequence Analysis(CA) about high pressure-toxic gases those are high demand in domestic. CA was used for ALOHA developed by US EPA & US NOAA and the CA result of Arsine was the largest at 4,700 m. CA results are expected to be utilized for determining the effective Safety distances when high pressure-toxic gas leak.

  • The sizes of cryogenic vessels and storage tanks are becoming bigger due to strong demands from semiconductor and LCD industry as well as high-tech electronic industry. Conventional level and pressure gauges used for cryogenic vessels were analog types which made exact measurement difficult for the remained quantity at lower levels due to their poor accuracy. In this study, a design for a digital type gas level gauge which can measure the pressure and level inside of the cryogenic liquefied gas storage tanks has been proposed by using a differential pressure sensor, in which the measured data are monitored by a host PC and are transferred to a mobile printer for data confirmation at local station.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to analyze and illustrate Amazon's business strategies and its success in terms of its distribution strategy and business practices. Research design, data, and methodology - This is an analytical case study that examines Amazon's business strategies to demonstrate the importance of technologies to the success and sustainability of its organization. Results - The analysis indicates that the business strategies, including technology, distribution infrastructure, and customer service, are the most vital factor for the success and rise of Amazon, and these strategies have separated Amazon from its competitors in both e-tail and brick and mortar retail industries. Conclusions - Given Amazon's continued growth that came with its constant strive for delivery and cost efficiency, technology innovation, and customer satisfaction, it was inevitable that Amazon would eventually venture into different types of businesses. The previous and current Amazon's business strategies demonstrate that Amazon will continue to focus on developing and implementing new and creative strategies to separate itself from the rest of the retail and e-businesses. Furthermore, retail businesses in the most high-tech countries in the world, including Japan, Korea, and Russia, may have to adopt business strategies that are similar to those of Amazon to maintain their competitiveness.

  • The purposes of fire investigation are to identify and analyze the causes of fire and, using the results in promoting fire fighting policies, ultimately to prevent fires caused by similar causes and to protect people's life and properties from fire. However, although the patterns of fire are getting more diverse and complicated with the rapid development of industry, complicated with the rapid development of industry, fire fighting organizations are continuing traditional superficial fire investigation without operating a fire investigation department for the reason of insufficient manpower, equipment and budget, losing public confidence. Thus, the present study purposed to propose plans to improve the technicality of fire investigation and win public confidence in fire investigation. First, the technicality of fire investigation should be improved by operating a department and personnel exclusively for fire investigation. Second, fire investigation should be more scientific and precise using high tech fire investigation equipment. Lastly, responsible fire fighting administration should be realized through statistical analysis of the causes of fire and computerization. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the safety and security of our society.

Through this study on utilization of de facto standards for national standards, it is researched that major de facto standards bodies status and domestic industrial fields which need utilization of de facto standards for national standards. Through overseas Case, effective usage of de facto standards will be obtained.

Electrical Properties of Conductive Nickel Powder-Epoxy Resin Composites (전도성 니켈분말-에폭시수지 복합체의 전기적 특성)

  • The conductive polymer composites have attracted considerable attention in the field of industry due to their electrical properties. To understand electrical properties of the composites, their volume specific resistance was measured. Electrical conductivity results showed percolation phenomena. Percolation theories are frequently applied to describe the insulator-to-conductor transitions in the composites composed of conductive filler and insulating matrix. It was found that the percolation threshold strongly depends on the aspect ratio of filler particles. The critical concentration of percolation formed is defined as the percolation threshold. The purpose of this study was to examine electrical properties of the epoxy resins filled with nickel. The sample was prepared using vehicle such as epoxy resin replenished with nickel powder, and the evaluation on their practical use was performed in order to apply them to electric and electronic industry as well as general field. The volume specific resistance of epoxy resin composites was 4.666~13.074 when using nickel powder. Weight loss of the conductive composites took place at $350^{\circ}C{\sim}470^{\circ}C$.

  • The finance-investment industry is currently focusing on research related to artificial intelligence and big data, moving beyond conventional theories of financial engineering. However, the case of equity optimization portfolio by using an artificial intelligence, big data, and its performance is rarely realized in practice. Thus, the purpose of this study is to propose process improvements in equity selection, information analysis, and portfolio composition, and lastly an improvement in portfolio returns, with the case of an equity optimization model based on quantitative research by an artificial intelligence. This paper is an empirical study of the portfolio based on an artificial intelligence technology of "D" asset management, which is the largest domestic active-quant-fiduciary management in accordance with the purpose of this paper. This study will apply artificial intelligence to finance, analyzing financial and demand-supply information and automating factor-selection and weight of equity through machine learning based on the artificial neural network. Also, the learning the process for the composition of portfolio optimization and its performance by applying genetic algorithms to models will be documented. This study posits a model that the asset management industry can achieve, with continuous and stable excess performance, low costs and high efficiency in the process of investment.
