A Study on the Full Active 4WS Control Method Using Nonlinear Tire Model (비선형 타이어모델을 이용한 완전능동형 4WS 제어방법에 관한 연구)

  • The understeer characteristics of four wheel steering system(4WS system) in a high speed region have a negative effect upon the yaw velocity, leading to a decrease in the handling ability of vehicle. As a result, even if the side slip angle of vehicle can be kept up a minimum, a driver must compensate a decrease in yaw velocity by increasing the steering wheel angle in order to track the desired vehicle path. In this study, to keep the side slip angle of vehicle at zero and achieve a suitable yaw velocity in vehicle motion, a full active 4WS system(FA 4WS system) with actively steerable front and rear wheels is presented based on a nonlinear vehicle model and a model following control of yaw velocity. And the analysis results show the fat that, besides the excellent stability of vehicle, the FA 4WS system is able to realize better handling performance of vehicle than the previous 4WS systems in the high speed region.

  • In this study, the dynamic characteristics of a catenary system and pantograph supplying electrical power to high-speed trains are investigated. One of the most important issues accompanied by increasing the speed of high-speed rail is stabilization of current collection. To stabilize current collection, it is necessary the contact force between the catenary and the pantograph to be kept continuous without loss of contact. The analytical model of a catenary and a pantograph is constructed to simulate the behavior of an actual system. The analysis of the catenary based on the Finite Element Method (FEM) is performed to develop a catenary model suitable for high speed operation. The reliability of the models is verified by the comparison of the excitation test with Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) data of the actual system. The static deflection of the catenary, stiffness variation in contact lines, dynamic response of the catenary undergoing constant moving load, contact force, and each state of the pantograph model were calculated. It is confirmed that a catenary and pantograph model are necessary for studying the dynamic behavior of the pantograph system.

  • Upon investigation of the damaged wheels for high speed train it was determined that the damage was caused by rolling contact fatigue during operation of train. The major problems that railway vehicle system using wheel-rail has to face during operation of railway vehicle are rolling contact fatigue, cracks in wheels, cracks in rails and wheel-rail profile wear. If these deficiencies are not controlled at early stages the huge economical problems due to unexpected maintenance cost in railway vehicle can be happened. Also, If the accurate knowledge of contact conditions between wheel and rail can be evaluated, the damage of wheel can be prevented and the maintenance operation can save money. This paper presents the applicability of electro-magnetic technique to the detection and sizing of defects in wheel. Under the condition of continuous rolling contact fatigue the damage of wheel has continuously monitored using the applied sensor. It was shown that the usefulness of the applied sensor was verified by twin disc test and the measured damaged sizes showed good agreement with the damaged sizes estimated by electro-magnetic technique.

  • High-speed trains with maximum speed of 300km/h, named KTX, have started revenue services since April 2004. Because of the geographical features of Korea a large portion of the 'Kyung-Bu' line is comprised of tunnels, which may cause excessive noise in a vehicle. The KTX interior noise follows in tunnel structure and the place where the quality appears different, the quality against hereupon from the commerce vehicle from the research which it sees it executes and comparison to analyze.

  • The railroad is a means of large transportation which has many latents such as a safety and a regularity. That is a results from various confidential performance tests and evaluations of the system. The railroad system consist of various subsystems - vehicle, power supply, signal, communications, track structures, operations, etc. Among them, as an item of safety evaluation there is a measurement of wheel/rail force, so called a measurement of derailment coefficient. This is a very important item because a derailment of a train will bring about a big accident. Especially it is more important in high speed rail of which operation speed is over two times as fast as existing rail. In this paper, it is introduced to preprocess the wheelset for measuring wheel/rail force of high speed rail, such as to treat a measuring wheelset, its finite element analysis, adhesion of strain gauges and static toad test, running test result of main line.

  • Korean Train Express (KTX) has opened to commercial traffic since 2004 at maximum speed 300km/h, and Korea High-speed Railway (HSR-350x) was developed by Korean government, several institutes, and related companies. HSR-350x is now being investigated its performance and tested at the high speed line. In 2004 December, HSR-350x was run over 350km/h and proved its running performance. In vehicle system, the faster the vehicle runs, the more vibration increases. To improve the riding comfort of high-speed trains, it needs to devise the vibration absorber. In this paper, we propose the installation of the semi-active damper to the power car of HSR 350x and present the specification and the damping characteristics.

  • In the area of wheel on rail vehicle, hunting stability which is generated by lateral motion is one of important characteristics for running safety. It might cause not only oscillation of vehicle but also derailment in an unstable area of the high speed. A Maglev vehicle is usually controlled the voltage to maintain the air gap between electromagnet and track. However, in Maglev system, an occurrence possibility of hunting motion could be high, because Maglev vehicle is not controlled directly lateral force between electromagnet and track in the curved guideway. In this paper, running safety is evaluated when Maglev vehicle run on guideway at high speed according to installment of damper between maglev vehicles and bogies, and to analyze the effect of it. Also, the parametric study is carried out for selecting effective lateral damper properties through the simulation. To accurately predict the running safety, 3d multibody dynamics models which are included air spring, guideway conditions and irregularities profile are used. With the results acquired, suggestions were made whether to adopt the damper and how to optimize the damping characteristics.
