Thrust Performance Improvement of a Linear Induction Motor

  • The end effect of a linear induction motor (LIM) has been known for several decades, especially in high speed operation. The exit part of the primary is not dealt as extensively as the entry part because of its minor effect. However, the exit part is one of the keys to weaken the dolphin effect, which occurs in high speed operation. In this paper, the concept of the virtual primary core is introduced, and chamfering of the primary outlet teeth is proposed to minimize the longitudinal end effect at the exit zone. For this, LIM for the high-speed train is designed and analyzed by using finite element method. Results confirm that chamfering can improve thrust performance effectively.

  • This paper is aiming to analyse the prefeasibility study of introduction of high speed rail freight system to transport some parcels for train operation efficiencies. As it does, this system can be meant a kind of multimodal system considering the passenger and freight in the same trainset, simultaneously. First, we implemented the parcel service market survey for customers preference, predicted demand forecast for high speed rail freight, and analysed B/C, NPV, etc.. As the result, this new system is feasible of applying the passenger-freight operation system economically, find the needs such as some revision of motor car for parcel freight transportation at the initial stage.

  • In computer graphics since objects atre constructed by lines and curves, the high-speed curve generator is indispensible for computer aided design and simulatation. Since the functions of graphic generation can be represented as a series of matrix operations, in this paper, two kind of the high-speed Bezier curve generator that uses matrix equation and a recursive relation for Bezier polynomials are designed. And B-spline curve generator is designed using interdependence of B-spline blending functions. As the result of the comparison of designed curve generator and reference [5], [6] in the operation time and number of operators, the curve generator with 1-dimensional systolic array processor for matrix vector operation that uses matrix equation for Bezier curve is more effective.

  • This study analysed testing method for performance verification in the phase of signalling system development for application in the Light Rail Transit(LRT). The main focus in this study therefore includes development of vehicle location detection system by first GPS and analysis of performance verification method by field testing. The comprehensive testing method has been analysed for the signalling system for LRT high speed operation. The signalling system for LRT high speed operation deals with vehicle location identification through vehicle location information using the second GPS and decision for whether the high speed proceed signal and departure inhibition output is feasible or not and for signalling output to the corresponding vehicle.

  • Due to continuous increase of electric power consumption, couple of resolutions for improving accuracy in power system like line separation are being studied. The increase of the power demand can cause problems such as supply difficulties of the electricity and broadband outages, failure, etc. When a fault occurs in the power system, a fault current also increases. Fault current creates problems like reduction of lifespan and failure on the power system. In order to resolve these problems, the reduction of initial fault current using the characteristics of superconducting element was applied to fault current limiter. We applied the system to high speed fault current limiter. We found that the superconducting element effectively reduced initial fault current and the fault current was limited by changing operation of high speed interrupter.

  • When the high speed train (KTX) departs from station in the high-speed line, sometimes on board signal disappears, which causes a hindrance of the operation punctuality, therefore, we have a research objective to verify the causes of hindrance and to find an improvement plan. In the process of research, when train left, we applied sand on the rail to improve adhesive power, whose sand has an effect on the ATC(Automatic Train Control) signal wave.   • We propose, in this paper, a new thinning algorithm and demonstrate Its effectiveness with some concrete experimental results. This new thinning process can solve the problems of disconnectivity and end point reduction explored in one-Pass algorithm Furthermore, this algorithm is proven effective particularly In high speed operation. A processor for this algorithm that is capable of hand-ling Input Image width(between 25 and 4t) bits ) and also operates on pipelining, is implemented and tested. Flexibility and high speed operation of this thinning processor should find excellent applicability in various areas.

  • To predict efficiency of Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors(IPMSM) and to cope with the demagnetization risk of permanent magnets used in the IPMSM, accurate iron analysis of the IPMSM is very important at the motor design stage. In the analysis, we developed a new iron loss model of electrical machines for high-speed operation. The calculated iron loss was compared with the experimental data. It was clarified that the proposed method can estimate iron loss effectively at high-speed operation.

  • The performance improvement in the high speed region for the sensorless based synchronous machine drive is discussed in the paper. Conventional dynamic overmodulation method in the vector controlled AC driver requires some calculation of maximum amplitude of the applying voltage vector to limit its amplitude, which leads to increase the calculation time of microprocessor. For low performance microprocessor, this might be impossible to complete the control loop within limited control time. Thus, to reduce the calculation time, the constantly limited amplitude for applying voltage vector is tried in this paper to drive sensorless based synchronous motor. Certainly, there exists some errors in amplitude and phase angle between inverter voltage and calculating voltage in the sensorless algorithm. But, this errors are too small to prevent the high speed sensorless operation within overmodulation region. The validities of the proposed method is proved by the experimental results.

A Catenary System Analysis for Studying the Dynamic Characteristics of a High Speed Rail Pantograph

  • In this study, the dynamic response of a catenary system that supplies electrical power to high-speed trains is investigated. One of the important problems which is accompanied by increasing the speed of a high-speed rail, is the performance of stable current collection. Another problem which has been encountered, is maintaining continuous contact force between the catenary and the pantograph without loss of panhead. The dynamic analyses of the catenary based on the Finite Element Method (FEM) are performed to develop a pantograph suitable for high speed operation. The static deflection of the catenary, the stiffness variation in contact lines, the dynamic response of the catenary undergoing the force of a constantly moving load and the contact force were calculated. It was confirmed that a catenary model is necessary to study the dynamic characteristics of the pantograph system.
