  • The fire damage of building wouid effect on the safety of structure. When the reinforced concrete structure is heated by high temperature due to the fire, the structural resisting-force will be decreased. In a way, it is a requirement to use high strength concrete for high rise building. Particularly, fire resistance properties of high-strength concrete is more important than normal strength concretes. The fire outbreak of a high strength concrete by sudden temperature rise is a main problem, and causes crack by thermal stress, loading to the deterioration of the durability. In this study, normal and high strength mortar were exposed to a high temperature environment. And than fundamental data for the character change of concrete heated highly were presented by measuring compressive strength of concrete with polypropylene and vinylon fiber, before and after heating. As the results, it is proven that high strength mortar with polypropylene and vinylon fiber for prevents deterioration of durability by fiber.

  • Recently, advanced countries assessment the risk of fire to prevent large-scale damage to high-rise buildings, In addition, performance-Based design, which is a fire risk assessment, is being conducted in Korea to prevent massive damage to high-rise buildings. However, unlike advanced countries, fire risk assessment in Korea is subject to fire risk assessment only for objects subject to consent from fire-fighting facilities such as building permits, When building engineers and fire-fighting engineers assessment the risk of fire, It has always been discussed because the results vary depending on which part of the evaluation is focused between economic feasibility and safety. Therefore, in this study, we would like to propose a fire risk assessment process suitable for domestic conditions by comparing the process of performance-based design, which is a domestic fire risk assessment, and the process of Iso/TC 16732 which is an overseas fire risk assessment.

  • Recently, increases of population density due to the industrialization in the metropolitan cities has caused the high-density and integration of life environment. Then various high-rise buildings are constructed for accommodation. However, high-rise building fires can cause high casualties due to increases of smoke spread velocity through the vertical shaft. In this study, the new program based on the enthalpy conservation for analysis of energy transfer for smoke control system, CAU_ESCAP, was developed. CAU_ESCAP was validated by comparing with the result of ASCOS. The characteristic of smoke control was analysed by using CAU_ESCAP for high-rise building fires.

  • This study is a basic research study to establish an effective evacuation guidance system in case of fire in high-rise and underground-linked complex buildings. As a result of the analysis of overseas cases, it is judged that it is necessary to develop an evacuation guidance system using artificial intelligence.

  • This thesis analyzed the evacuation problem when fire breaks out in the super-high-rise buildings and proposed the refuge areas as a method of seeking for the residents' safety and considered its necessity. And drew out the factors which should be considered to prepare refuge area standard, and demonstrated those drawn factors for solution one by one and then proposed as the refuge standard.

  • When big fire in high rise building and multiplex happens, the needs for high prevention system of disaster are being increased for getting the real-time scene state, quick lifesaver, and safe life security. In this paper the proposed evacuation guidance algorithm which analyzed the feature and danger of fire in high rise buildings, gave simplicity and scalability. Our research shows as fire and disaster occur in high rise buildings we construct sensor networks and sense realtime location information on fire alive people, and the situation information for fire instructed quick and safe escaping route by using mesh routing algorithm scheme relative to exit sign.

  • The fact that the major cases of life casualties are from smoke in the fire accidents and the expected steep increase of skyscrapers, huge spaces, multiplexes and huge scaled underground spaces demand establishment of efficient smoke countermeasure. The architectural factors affecting the pressure field of building should be examined for the successful design and operation of smoke management system and the stack effect is one of the important factors. The field experiments on stack effect in stairwells of high-rise building with regard to open/close condition of door are carried out to evaluate the features of pressure applied to door between each compartments, i.e, stair, lobby and accommodation. The procedures and results of experiments are presented.

  • Recently, construction projects are gradually becoming high-rise and large-scale, and furthermore, the use of new buildings is emerging through the deepening of the underground. In this situation, a lot of fire damage has occurred in recent years, mainly in buildings and tunnel structures. In particular, damages caused by fires during large-scale construction projects such as freezing warehouse accidents are increasing. In this situation, in Korea, it is still trying to secure safety from human fire through the administrative system divided into the building law and the fire law, but it is being developed in a negative direction rather than a positive direction. The fire risk is getting bigger even when the road is not maintained. In this current situation, it is considered that the development of a Korean integrated life safety code centering on the consciousness base of Koreans will be necessary, and in particular, the ease of revision will also be needed by promoting the integrated safety code rather than current laws and regulations. This is a summary of the future tasks.

  • The effects on the performance of natural smoke exhaust ventilators installed in high-rise buildings were analyzed depending on the wind velocities and smoke temperatures using CONTAMW tool. The results showed that the smoke exhaust ventilators can maintain given performances in such conditions as low smoke temperatures and low wind velocities. However, high smoke temperatures and high wind velocities can prevent the smoke ventilators to exhaust smokes from the fire room. Significant changes in stack effects in high-rise buildings can also occur with the opening of smoke ventilators in the fire floor.

  • The recent tragic outbreak of fire at the Grenfell Tower in the United Kingdom compels all branches of government to reexamine and reassess the safety measures against fires in high-rise buildings from a broad perspective. Accordingly, this study examined what problems stem from the current evacuation codes by comparative analysis of the high-rise apartment evacuation codes that range over various individual laws before introducing a new evacuation code. The outcome of this study can be utilized as basic data for amending the existing evacuation codes for high-rise buildings. The codes related to high-rise building evacuation include the Building Act, the Housing Act, the Skyscraper Disaster Management Act, and the Fire-Fighting System Act. Some local governments have also drawn up their own codes and put them into practice. Comparative analysis of the major evacuation codes has helped identify a variety of problems, such as different codes being applied to each individual law and ordinance, the use of additional codes other than the provisions of laws and ordinances, and the in effectiveness of evacuation codes. Most of these problems occur when diverse codes are applied to a single building, which means that cooperation among the relevant ministries is urgently needed to improve the related codes in the future.
