  • Simulated experiments of high pressure melt ejection(HPME) are performed to measure the released fraction of corium simulant from the French type PWR cavity. The experiments are carried out on a 1/20th linear scaled model of the Ulchin 1&2 cavity. Water or woods metal and nitrogen is used as simulant of molten corium and steam, respectively. Experimental parameters are water mass, annulus area and breach size. It is shown that only breach size effects is very important while the mass and the annulus area do not affect the released fraction. It is found that the liquid film transport is much more dominant mechanism than the entrainment droplet transport, especially in linear scale down simulated HPME experiment.

수직갱을 이용한 터널내 비정상 압축파의 피동제어 (Passive control of unsteady compression wave using vertical bleed ducts)

  • When a high-speed railway train enters a tunnel, a compression wave is generated ahead of the train and propagates along the tunnel, compressing and accelerating the rest air in front of the wave. At the exit of the tunnel, an impulsive wave is emitted outward toward the surrounding, which causes a positive impulsive noise like a kind of sonic boom produced by a supersonic aircraft. With the advent of high-speed train, such an impulsive noise can be large enough to cause the noise problem, unless some attempts are made to alleviate its pressure levels. For the purpose of the impulsive noise reduction, the present study investigated the effect of a vertical bleed duct on the compression wave propagating into a model tunnel. Numerical results were obtained using a Piecewise Linear Method and testified by experiment of shock tube with an open end. The results showed that the vertical bleed duct reduces the maximum pressure gradient of compression wave front by about 30 percent, compared with the straight tunnel without the bleed duct. As the width of the vertical bleed duct becomes larger, reduction of the impulsive noise is expected to be greater. However the impulsive noise is independent of the height of the vertical bleed duct.

  • At present it has been cleared that even carefully polished surfaces have irregularities on them which are large compared with molecular dimensions by the progress of a scanning electron microscope. When two solids are placed together, the real area of contact is very small, so that the local pressure is high and, in general, exceeds the yield pressure of the metal. Plastic flow of the solid occurs at the summits of the irregularities so that the real area of contact is proportional to the applied load. There is adhesion at local resions of contact and the friction is, in a large measure, the force required to shear them. On this view point, the friction experiment with different specimens which are carbon steel, copper and constantan was attempted to know the characteristics of temperature change in contact with different metals. Various experiments are summerized as follows; 1) With metals of high melting point, momentary 1000 .deg. C may last below $10^{-4}$ of a second. It is thought that above phenomena back up previous adhesion theory in wear. 2) As a general rule, surface temperature in contact with different metals becomes high when the load increases while it is observed that surface temperature decreases when the load increases with shapes of specimens.

기하음향 기법을 적용한 한국형 고속철도 실내소음 저감 방안 (Reducing the Interior Noise of the Korean High-speed Train Using Geometric Acoustic Method)

  • The interior sound pressure level of the Korean high-speed train(KHST) is predicted by geometrical acoustic method. For the Purpose of assuring the prediction of Interior noise of KHST by the geometrical acoustic scheme, calculated sound level values of the Korean train express(KTX) by Identical geometrical method are compared with measured values of KTX prototype vehicle by experiment. Contribution of individual sound source of KHST vehicle Into the interior response positions is calculated and sound sources are classified in influential order. Hence, it is reasonable approach to reduce sound power of most contributing noise source first. Sensitivity of the interior response position's sound pressure level (SPL) with respect to train wall sections' transmission loss are carried on and acoustically sensitive spot is identified, for example window area for passenger cabin case. Those contribution and sensitivity analysis results are suggested to design quieter train efficiently.

  • The capability of pilot injection with small fuel quantity at all engine operating conditions is one of the main feature of the common rail system. The purpose of the pilot injection is to lower the engine noise and to reduce the NOx emissions. This study describes the pilot spray structure characteristics of the common-rail diesel injectors, solenoid-driven and piezo-driven type, with different electric driving characteristics So, three common-rail injectors with different electric current wave were used in this study. The pilot spray characteristics such as spray speed, spray tip penetration, and spray angle were obtained by spray images, which is measured by the back diffusion light illumination method with optical system for high-speed temporal photography. Also the CFD analysis was carried out for fuel behavior under high pressure in between needle and nozzle of solenoid-driven injector to know the condition of initial injection at experiment test. It was found that pilot injection of common-rail system was effected by rate of injection and temperature of injected fuel and electrical characteristic of the driven injector.

CRITICAL FLOW EXPERIMENT AND ANALYSIS FOR SUPERCRITICAL FLUID

  • The use of Supercritical Fluids(SCF) has been proposed for numerous power cycle designs as part of the Generation IV advanced reactor designs, and can provide for higher thermal efficiency. One particular area of interest involves the behavior of SCF during a blowdown or depressurization process. Currently, no data are available in the open literature at supercritical conditions to characterize this phenomenon. A preliminary computational analysis, using a homogeneous equilibrium model when a second phase appears in the process, has shown the complexity of behavior that can occur. Depending on the initial thermodynamic state of the SCF, critical flow phenomena can be characterized in three different ways; the flow can remain in single phase(high temperature), a second phase can appear through vaporization(high pressure low temperature) or condensation(high pressure, intermediate temperature). An experimental facility has been built at the University of Wisconsin to study SCF depressurization through several diameter breaks. The preliminary results obtained show that the experimental data can be predicted with good agreement by the model for all the different initial conditions.

  • A numerical simulation has been carried out for three-dimensional turbulent flows around an Ahmed body. The Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equation is solved with the SIMPLE method in general curvilinear coordinates system. Several k-.epsilon. turbulence models with two convective difference schemes are evaluated for the performance such as drag coefficient, velocity and pressure fields. The drag coefficient, the velocity and pressure fields are found to be changed considerably with the adopted k-.epsilon. turbulence models as well as the finite difference schemes. The results of simulation prove that the RNG k-.epsilon. model with the QUICK scheme predicts fairly well the tendency of velocity and pressure fields and gives more reliable drag coefficient. It is also demonstrated that the large difference between simulations and experiment in the drag coefficient is due to relatively high predicted values of pressure drag from vertical rear end base.

방전극 형상 및 여과재에 따른 정전 여과집진장치특성에 관한 연구 (Investigation of Characteristics of Electrostatic Bag Filter with Discharge Electrode Shapes and Filter Properties)

  • In this study, the characteristics of electrostatic bag filter to overcome the main problems such as the high pressure drop and low collection efficiency for submicron particles are investigated with the experimental parameters. Especially, the experiment is carried out focusing on collection efficiency and pressure drop change mechanism as a function of discharge electrode shapes and filter properties, including the applied voltages, filtration velocities and particle concentrations, etc . Results show that the collection efficiency is improved over 30% for the fine particle below 1 pm and pressure drop reduction ratio (PDRR) increases in the following order 4 mm screwy > 4 mm square > 4mm round discharge electrodes . For the filter properties, Nomex is more effective than PE under the influence of electrostatic force. Applying 30 kV for a screwy discharge electrode, higher overall collection efficiency is maintained in spite of the increment of filtration velocity over four times (8 m/min) in comparison with that of 2 m/min and PDRR are highly shown over 80o1o with various filtration velocities, 5, 8, 11 m/min.

과급 LPLi 엔진의 공연비 변화에 따른 출력성능 및 배기특성에 관한 연구 (The Study of Engine Output and Emission Characteristics according to Air Fuel Ratio far a Supercharged LPLi Engine)

  • For the purpose of obtaining a fundamental data which is needed to develope the port injection type charged LPLi engine system, we manufactured intake port injection system of liquid charging LPG and modified heavy duty single cylinder LPLi engine from heavy duty diesel engine. Engine output and emission characteristics were analyzed under variable air/fuel ratio and charging pressure. Since LPG is consisted of propane and butane, we investigated combustion characteristics using this two kinds of fuel. From the result of charging engine performance test, engine torque increase about 30% ∼ 40% with 0.3bar charging pressure. In low speed condition, as charging pressure increase, combustion stability improve ill lean bum condition, but, in high speed condition, combustion stability make worse in lean bum condition. We know that engine output decreased rapidly from the condition of air excess ratio 1.3. In addition, we measured emission characteristics under the lean bum and charging condition. From this experiment, we found that CO emission is out of the question in the range from stiochiometric to lean burn and charging condition, but charging pressure has influence on HC emission.

유동분위기에서 메탄올의 연소특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Combustion Characteristic of the Methanol Fuel in a Turbulence Mixture)

  • The experiment was performed by using the condenser discharge ignition device in a constant volume combustion chamber for high pressure, equivalent to the TDC of spark ignition engine, which makes the forced turbulent field possible. The conclusions obtained under various initial pressures, initial temperatures, and turbulent conditions of the methanol-air mixture are as follows : As initial pressure, initial temperature of the mixture, and the ignition energy increase, the inflammability limit expands, but the lean inflammability limit decreases as turbulence intensity increases. Combustion duration is shorter in the case of the lower initial pressure, the higher initial temperature, an equivalence ratio of 1.1-1.2, and even though turbulence intensity increases up to optimum value. Maximum combustion pressure increases in turbulent ambience under the same mixture condition, only in the case each optimum turbulence intensity exists under every condition. As the turbulence intensity increases .tau.$_{10}$ proportion increases while the .tau.$_{pr}$ proportion decreases....
