Prediction of aerodynamic coefficients of streamlined bridge decks using artificial neural network based on CFD dataset

  • Aerodynamic force coefficients are generally obtained from traditional wind tunnel tests or computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Unfortunately, the techniques mentioned above can sometimes be cumbersome because of the cost involved, such as the computational cost and the use of heavy equipment, to name only two examples. This study proposed to build a deep neural network model to predict the aerodynamic force coefficients based on data collected from CFD simulations to overcome these drawbacks. Therefore, a series of CFD simulations were conducted using different geometric parameters to obtain the aerodynamic force coefficients, validated with wind tunnel tests. The results obtained from CFD simulations were used to create a dataset to train a multilayer perceptron artificial neural network (ANN) model. The models were obtained using three optimization algorithms: scaled conjugate gradient (SCG), Bayesian regularization (BR), and Levenberg-Marquardt algorithms (LM). Furthermore, the performance of each neural network was verified using two performance metrics, including the mean square error and the R-squared coefficient of determination. Finally, the ANN model proved to be highly accurate in predicting the force coefficients of similar bridge sections, thus circumventing the computational burden associated with CFD simulation and the cost of traditional wind tunnel tests.

  • 대구지하철 방화사건 이후 방재시설이 많이 개선되었지만 아직 인명안전에 대한 확실한 대안을 제시하지 못한 상태이다. 본 논문은 전동차 화재 시 인명안전의 보장을 입증하는 방안에 대하여 정량적으로 평가한 논문으로 화재 열차가 터널 내에 정차할 경우를 가정하여 시나리오를 구성하고, 최악의 시나리오에 대한 가상 화재 및 피난시뮬레이션 기법을 활용하여 대피안전성을 평가하였다. 평가결과 현행 지하철 터널구조하에서의 인명안전을 확보하기 위해 승강장(스크린 도어 설치)에서는 터널상부에서 승강장 천정부를 연결하는 제연환기구(덕트 포함)를 설치할 경우, ASET시간을 연장할 수 있기 때문에 대피안전성 확보가 가능하다. 또한 터널중앙 환기구에서는 배기통과 완전히 분리된 별도의 특별 피난계단을 연결하여 설치하여야만 터널 중앙환기구를 통하여 대피하는 승객의 대피안전성의 확보가 가능한 것으로 입증 제시한바, 실물화재실험의 수행없이 가상화재시뮬레이션에 의하여 대피안전성을 정량적으로 입증하였다.

  • Compared with other transport means, safety and timeliness are the merits of railways. Unexpectedly when accident happens, much time and human strength are required to cope with the accident. And for swift recovery, systematic rehabilitation is needed. Recently using MTS(Moving picture Transmission System), we can perform accident rehabilitation and recording work efficiently. MTS is the device that transmits continuous picture information from accident field to control center. We are developing the appropriate system to railway situation to make use of the existing information communication technology, processing technology of video-tex, super high speed transmission technology through fiber-optic, copper cable and network description of information Technology, etc. If these communication-based can technologies are applied to railway system, railway managers can control the accident by inspecting the picture of accident field and can contribute to the safe train operation and the improvement of railway management. In this paper, we investigate the connecting methods when optical fiber is used for moving picture data transmission of train accidents, and its problems. And, we validate MTS's performance through about 28km section of field test.

팬터그래프와 전차선간 최소 이선아크 지속시간에 따른 이선율 변화량 분석 (Analysis of Percentage of Arcing between Pantograph and Overhead Contact Line as a Function of Duration of Arc)

  • Quality criteria for interaction between a pantograph and overhead contact wire is a most important requirement to assess of the performance for the current collection system. Interaction performance between pantograph and catenary system is subject to approval by the infrastructure manager when a new design and contraction of overhead contact line and pantograph are installed. Among the various performance, percentage of arcing at maximum line speed is a simple test method compared with contact force of pantograph due to direct sensing of pantagraph, calibrations, installations of train, and etc. On the other hand, percentage of arcing is need to reliable arcing detector and general requirements with accordance with EN 50317. In this paper, percentage of arcing are investigated on the function of duration of arc and proposed which is satiable of percentage of arcing. As a results, we proposed which duration of arcs are unsuitable from infrastructures point of view as performance testing for quality of current collection.

  • The purpose of this study is to set up an acoustic prediction technique and to perform the IL test of scale down noise reducing device for the development of the noise reducing device as the development of 400km/h class high speed train. First of all, the IL prediction of noise reducing device was performed with the 2D BEM method. And the noise test of scale down noise reducing device in anechoic chamber was performed for the verification of acoustic prediction technique and IL performance evaluation. As the results, the acoustic prediction technique for the development of noise reducing device was verified because the averaged IL difference between prediction and test is in 2dB(A). And the measured IL value of noise reducing device is less than 2dB(A), and additional IL with polyester absorption material is increased about 0.5dB(A).

  • Considering the dynamic performance and stability of railroad vehicles has begun to grab the attention because of developing the high speed train recently. A development based on an analysis of dynamics and verification has to be required to study the stability of vehicle performance. Several ways of analysis were using the look-up table to apply the wheel-rail contact characteristics quickly, whereas there is a constraint of the wheelset lateral displacement. In this study, an development of searching the wheel-rail contact position has been provided. The 2-point contact between wheel and rail during the driving condition can be calculated by numerical analysis. Moreover, a reliability is verified by comparing the result with a commercial program.

Performance of Different Sensors for Monitoring of the Vibration Generated during Thermosonic Non-destructive Testing

  • Vibration monitoring is required for reliable thermosonic testing to decide whether sufficient vibration is achieved in each test for the detection of cracks. From a practical point of view, a cheaper and convenient monitoring method is better for the application to real tests. Therefore, the performance of different sensors for vibration monitoring was investigated and compared in this study to find a convenient and acceptable measurement method for thermosonics. Velocity measured by a laser vibrometer and strain provide an equivalent HI when measured at the same position. The microphone can provide a cheaper vibration monitoring device than the laser and the heating index calculated by a microphone signal shows similar characteristics to that calculated from velocity measured by the laser vibrometer. The microphone frequency response shows that it underestimates high frequency components but it is applicable to practical tests because it gives a conservative value of HI.

  • This paper deals with the vibration isolation techniques for a large structure using experimental research. In the case of vibration isolation for the vicinity of a subway or a railroad station, most of vibration isolation techniques using isolation materials with high isolation efficiency only, have been applied. Therefore, the quantitative evaluation and design technologies are required for a vibration isolation of large structures. In this study, firstly, vibration characteristics due to train or subway are analyzed. Secondly, the performance of existing vibration isolation materials such as precision isolation material, elastomer is estimated through the experiments. Thirdly the performance of tire isolation material and its frame is tested and evaluated.

Parameter Estimation of Recurrent Neural Equalizers Using the Derivative-Free Kalman Filter

  • For the last decade, recurrent neural networks (RNNs) have been commonly applied to communications channel equalization. The major problems of gradient-based learning techniques, employed to train recurrent neural networks are slow convergence rates and long training sequences. In high-speed communications system, short training symbols and fast convergence speed are essentially required. In this paper, the derivative-free Kalman filter, so called the unscented Kalman filter (UKF), for training a fully connected RNN is presented in a state-space formulation of the system. The main features of the proposed recurrent neural equalizer are fast convergence speed and good performance using relatively short training symbols without the derivative computation. Through experiments of nonlinear channel equalization, the performance of the RNN with a derivative-free Kalman filter is evaluated.
