태양전지용 실리콘 제조를 위한 슬래그 이용 야금학적 정련연구 (Metallurgical refining study for production of solar grade (SoG) silicon by synthetic slag)

  • In this study, metallurgical grade (MG) silicon with 99% purity produced by arc furnace process was systematically investigated for slag refining. The most problematic impurities to remove from MG silicon are boron (B) and phosphorus (P). To remove B and P from MG-silicon, we used synthetic slag in the molten state. MG-silicon with synthetic slag of CaO, $SiO_2$, and $CaF_2$ was melted using by high-frequency induction furnace with electrical output of 50kW. Specimens prepared by various refining process conditions(holding time, mixture ratio) were inspected by combined analysis of ICP-MS and XRF. With this approach, B has been reduced to <5ppm, P to <1ppm and other impurities to 0.1~0.2% except for Calcium. Calcium has been increased from 17ppm to 1500ppm. Problem of calcium contamination will be resolved by additional refining processes.

  • Ultra high carbon steel (Fe-1.4%C) was prepared by means of a high frequency induction furnace. The preferred nucleation site of martensite was observed. The changes of hardness and impact thoughness due to tempering temperatures, and the spheroidization of cementite by controlled -rolling were also studied for the steel. The preferred nucleation site of martensite in the ultra high carbon steel is prior austenite grain boundary. The hardness of the steel is slightly increased up to about $300^{\circ}C$, and then decreased with further tempering temperature. However, the impact energy keeps a almost constant value, independent of the tempering temperature. The spheroidization of cementite is accelerated as the reduction in thickness per rolling pass is increased and the number of the rolling passes becomes greater.

  • 야금학적 방법을 통한 태양전지용 실리콘 제조를 위하여 아크로(Arc furnace)에서 제조된 용융 상태의 금속급 실리콘을 슬래그와 직접 반응시켜 불순물을 제거하는 공정에 관한 연구를 수행하였다. 이를 위해 아크로와 고주파 유도용해로(High-frequency induction furnace)를 이용하여 금속급 실리콘을 제조와 정련 특성 실험을 수행하였다. 본 연구에서 금속급 실리콘을 제조하기 위한 장비로 150kW급-DC 아크로와 300kW급-AC 아크로를 사용하였다. 원재료로 규석, 코크스(Cokes), 숯, 그리고 우드칩(Wood chip)을 실험 비율에 맞춰 아크로 내부에 장입하고, 이를 용융환원 방법을 통해 반응을 시켰다. 이때 생산된 금속급 실리콘의 순도는 약 99.2~99.8% 이었으며, 원재료의 순도, 장입 비율 및 아크로 운전 특성에 따라 편차가 있다. 아크로에서 생산된 금속급 실리콘의 경우 인(phosphorus), 붕소(boron)를 다량 함유하고 있고, 이를 제거하기 위하여 50kW급 고주파 유도용해로 장비를 사용하여 슬래그 정련 실험을 수행하였다. 슬래그 정련시 사용한 성분은 SiO2, CaO 그리고 CaF2 이며, 금속급 실리콘과 슬래그의 질량비 및 반응 시간에 따른 실리콘 불순물 특성을 평가하였다. 실험결과 인과 붕소는 각각 1 ppm 이하, 5 ppm 이하 였으며, 칼슘을 제외한 대부분의 금속 불순물의 경우 0.1~0.2% 임을 확인하였다.

  • Thd specimens were melited in high frequency induction furnace. The samples for measurements were prepared by machining cylinder of 9.5mm diameter and 15mm height. These samples were then hot-pressed according to strain rate ( .epsilon. ). These samples were decanned and cut out, and subsequently heat treated at 1000 .deg. C for 4hours. These were investigated for the change of microstructure, domain pattern, X-ray diffraction and magnetic properties. The stress distributions in the specimens during compressing process were calculated by a finite element method program(SPID). The calculated stresses were effective stress( .sigma. $_{eff}$), compressive direction stress( .sigma. $_{z}$), and shear stress( .tau. $_{rz}$ ).   • In this thesis, we fabricate a zero-magnetostrictive amorphous ribbon measure the impeadance effect, and then Investigate possibility as a sensor material. $Co_{72.5}$F $e_{0.5}$M $o_{2}$ $B_{15}$ S $i_{5}$ is used as composition of specimen alloy. We first melt the specimen in high frequency induction furnace and then rapidly quench it by using single roll technique. As the result, we obtain a ribbon where thickness is 12${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, width is 1mm and length is 93mm. Consequently, it is proved through this study that zero-magnetostrictive amorphous ribbon can be used as an excellent magnetic sensor material.rial.l.

Effect of Flux on the Recovery Behavior of Valuable Metals during the Melting Process of Aluminum Can Scrap

  • This study investigated the effect of flux type and amounts on recovery behavior of aluminum alloy during the melting process of Al can scrap. The heat treatment was conducted to remove the coating layer on the surface of can scrap at 500℃ for 30 min. The molten metal treatment of the scrap was performed at 750℃ in a high-frequency induction furnace with different flux types and amounts. It was observed that the optimum condition for recovery of Al alloy was to add about 3 wt.% flux with a salt and MgCl2 mixing ratio of 70:30 during melting process. The mechanical properties of recovered Al alloy were about 254.8 MPa, which is similar to that of the virgin Al5083 alloy.

  • The study was carried out to examine in more detail metallurgical and mechanical properties of brazed joints of diamond cutting wheel. In this work, shank(mild steel) and sintered bronze-base tips were brazed with three different filler materials(W-40, BAgl and BAg3S). The machine used in this work was a high frequency induction brazing equipment. The joint thickness, porosities and microstructure of brazed joints with brazing variables(brazing temperature, holding time) were evaluated with OLM, SEM, EDS and XRD. Bending(torque) test was also performed to evaluate strength of brazed joints. Further wetting test was performed in a vacuum furnace in order to evaluate the wettability of filler metals on base metals9shank and tips). The brazing temperature had a strong influence on the joint strength and the optimum brazing temperature range was about $700~850^{\circ}C$ for the bronze/steel combinations. The strength of the brazed joint was found to be influenced by the three factors : degree of reaction region, porosity content, joint thickness. The reaction region was formed in the bronze-base tip adjacent to the joint. The reaction region resulted in a bad influence on the strength due to the formation of Cu5.6Sn, CuZn4, $\beta(CuZn)$ and CdAg, etc. Porosities increased as brazing variables(brazing temperature, holding time) increased, and the brazed joints with porosities of less than about 3-5% had an optimum strength for the bronze-base tip.

고주파 가열 장비를 활용한 터빈로터 휨 교정수식모델 개발 (Development of Turbine Rotor Bending Straightening Numerical Model using the High Frequency Heating Equipment)

  • The turbine rotor, one of the main facilities in a power plant, it generates electricity while rotating at 3600 RPM. Because it rotates at high speed, it requires careful management because high vibration occurs even if it is deformed by only 0.1mm. However, bending occurs due to various causes during turbine operating. If turbine rotor bending occurs, the power plant must be stopped and repaired. In the past, straightening was carried out using a heating torch and furnace in the field. In case of straightening in this way, it is impossible to proceed systematically, so damage to the turbine rotor may occur and take long period for maintenance. Long maintenance period causes excessive cost, so it is necessary to straighten the rotor by minimizing damage to the rotor in a short period of time. To solve this problem, we developed a turbine rotor straightening equipment using high-frequency induction heating equipment. A straightening was validated for 500MW HIP rotor, and the optimal parameters for straightening were selected. In addition, based on the experimental results, finite element analysis was performed to build a database. Using the database, a straightening amount prediction model available for rotor straightening was developed. Using the developed straightening equipment and straightening prediction model, it is possible to straightening the rotor with minimized damage to the rotor in a short period of time.

SiCp/Mg-Al 복합재료의 조직에 미치는 용융가공의 영향 (Influence of Melt Processing Factors on Microstructures of SiCp/Ma-Al Composites)

  • Mg-9wt.%Al and Mg-9wt.%-1.6wt%Zn/SiCp(particle size $40{\mu}m$) metal-matrix-composite specimens were manufactured by rheo-compocasting method, known for its effect of improving the wettability. The ceramic reinforcement particles(SiCp) were dispersed in the semi-solid magnesium alloy matrix slurry being vigorously stirred in a high frequency induction furnace under inert atmosphere. A microstructural study of the dispersed particles in the specimens, prepared under different conditions as regards the time(10min, 20min, 30min) and temperature of the stirring, was made with the aid of optical microscope and SEM. The effect of superheating was also observed. It is revealed that 30 minutes' stirring time of the semi-solid at 40% solid fraction temperature(Mg-9wt.%Al : $590^{\circ}C$, AZ91 : $576^{\circ}C$), as determined by the lever rule, gives a satisfactorily uniform distribution of the particles. The superheating is observed to enhance further the uniformity.

치과용 Co-Cr 합금의 제성질에 미치는 Boron과 Silicon의 영향 (Effect Boron and Silicon on Various Properties of Dental Cobalt-Chromium Alloys)

  • This paper aims to investigate the effect of B and Si upon the mechanical properties, microstructure and corrosion resistance of Co-Cr base alloy. Ten groups of alloy ingot ingot with various contents of B and Si were remelted by high frequency electrical induction furnace and cast into tensile specimen of ADA Specification No. 14 Tensile and hardness test were carried out by Amsler and Rockwell hardness tester(R-30N), respectively. The microstructures of specimen were observed by SEM. The results obtained are summarized as follows : 1. As B content is increased, tensile strength, yield strength and Rockwell hardness number(R-30N) are also increased significantly, while the elongation is decreased significantly. 2. As Si contect os increased, no significant chang in tensile strength is noticed, yield strength is slightly decreased, but Rockwell hardness number(R-30N) is moderately in creased, Elongation marks maxium value with 1% Si content while with more than 1% Si it is decreased. 3. As B content is increased corrosion resistance is decreased and is at best with 1.5% B content. Corrosion resistance is increased with the increase of Si content and the alloys with Si over 3.0% showed corrosion resistance. 4. As B content increased, precipitates are increased in number at grain boundaries. The grain size tends to become coarse with the increase of Si content. 5. Co rich-Cr alloy is present through matrix whereas at the grain boundaries Cr base precipitates are primarily formed.
