  • This paper deals with overvoltage stresses in the field circuit of synchronous machine connected to HVDC terminal. A load rejection of the HVDC may cause generator in the station to become self-excited, resulting in a severe system overvoltage. This paper shows that violent field current oscillations can be produced by resonance between the machine inductance and the terminal capacitance. As most conventional excitation system do not allow reverses current, new topology of excitation system to allow reverse current is proposed. the proposed system can limit the rate of rise of terminal voltage during conditions of self excitation. Apart from these simulations, the nature(Magnitude and frequency) of the field transient state is explained mathematically. Finally, the EMTDC program is used for the simulation studies.

  • This paper describes the experience gained from the treatments for prevention of blade failure occurred in the low-pressure turbine. Some cracks due to high cycle fatigue were found at the blades in low-pressure turbines after long time operation. Such failure was mainly caused by the resonance of the blade with the vane passing frequency excitation. If a natural frequency of the blade exists near the excitation frequency, a resonant vibration can occur and leads to a large amount of stress which may cause fatigue failures in turbine blades. To avoid the resonance of the blade, some modifications have been performed and full-scaled mockup testing has been done to confirm the verification for modification. Test result shows that enlarging the span cover is very useful to change the natural frequency of the grouped blades effectively.

초음파 진동절삭기의 펄스폭변조 가진 특성 (Characteristics of Pulse Width Modulation(PWM) Excitation of Ultrasonic Elliptical Vibration Cutting Device)

  • To obtain an elliptical trajectory at the cutting edge during elliptical vibration cutting, sinusoidal voltage excitations of two piezoelectric actuators have commonly been used. In this study, PWM excitation, which is relatively simple to generate, was employed and its characteristics were investigated. In experimental and analytical analyses, we found that for PWM excitation, the integer-multiple frequencies of the excitation voltage distorted the shape of the elliptical trajectory, whereas at a duty ratio(DR) of 50%, the distortion of the elliptical trajectory was minimized due to disappearance of the first overtone. When the magnitude of the maximum excitation voltage was maintained at the same level for both PWM and sinusoidal excitation, PWM (DR=50%) excitation produced a greater vibration amplitude than sinusoidal excitation but resulted in more rapid saturation of a high-frequency power amplifier.

  • This study investigates the structural characteristics of oil-free, gas beam foil journal bearings (GBFJBs) for use in high speed motors. Mathematical modeling was carried out, and reaction force modeling for static load was performed to predict the structural characteristics of the GBFJB. Mathematical modeling and reaction force modeling for static load are performed to predict the structural characteristics of GBFJBs. The reaction force of the test bearing against static loads was measured during experiments and compared with the predicted results. The measured experimental data reveal the nonlinear stiffness characteristics of the GBFJB against varying displacement and agree well with the predictions. Dynamic load tests using an exciter allow to identify the vibration characteristics of the GBFJB. Test results show that the vibration displacement, dynamic force, and acceleration measured on the test bearing are most dominant at the applied dynamic load (synchronization) frequency. Futhermore, the test results show that the hysteresis area recorded during the dynamic tests increases with the excitation amplitude and frequency, and that the beam stick phenomena occurr at high excitation frequencies. The single degree of freedom (DOF) vibration model aids to identify the stiffness and damping coefficient of the GBFJB, which decrease as the excitation frequency increases.

점용접 표준시편에 대한 가속내구시험법의 적용 (Application of Accelerated Vibration Testing to Spot-welding Specimen)

  • It is advantage of accelerated vibration testing to compress service exposures to operating vibration into a reduced laboratory test by increasing the amplitude or frequency of the applied input excitations. This paper proposes an accelerated test method to estimate the high-cycle fatigue life under random excitation. The method consists of conducting a test with amplified input excitation and extrapolating linearly the lift in the accelerated condition into the real lift in field condition. The extrapolation is carried out applying the high-cycle irregular excitation fatigue theory including the rainflow counting, Miner’s damage accumulation rule, and Goodman’s mean stress correction. As a verification, those estimated lift is compared with that acquired by experiment f3r the simple case of spot welding specimen with good agreement. This testing procedure will provide an useful scheme that can reduce testing period associated with developing time schedule of new product.

압력진동에 대한 액체 로켓엔진의 음향 응답의 민감도에 관한 수치적 연구 (A Numerical Study on Sensitivity of Acoustic Response to Pressure Oscillations in Liquid Rocket Engine)

  • 로켓엔진에서 발생하는 음향 불안정성의 정성적 경향성을 파악하기 위해 축대칭 연소실에서의 음향파 응답 특성을 수치해석적으로 조사하였다. 주로 작동조건의 변화와 외부교란의 가진 주파수 변화에 따른 응답 특성을 계산하였다. 외부교란으로 연소실 입구부분의 전압이 정현파 형태로 섭동하도록 인위적으로 부여하였다. 음향 응답의 정성적 경향성이 유지되는 범위내에서, 분무 연소과정에 수반되는 여러 가지 물리 화학적인 과정들을 단순화하였다. 먼저, 주어진 작동조건에서 정상상태의 연소장을 구하고, 다음 단계로 압력섭동에 대한 연소장의 거동을 시간의 경과에 따라 구하였다. 작동조건의 변화에 따른 음향파 응답의 계산 결과, 반응 지역에서 약한 강도의 화염이 형성되는 경우 민감한 응답이 나타나 불안정안 압력분포를 나타냈다. 또한, 가진되는 압력 섭동의 주파수에 따라 응답 특성이 변하였고, 특히 높은 가진 주파수의 압력 섭동에 대해서 불안정한 응답이 나타났다. 해석 결과로 나타난 거시적 현상의 이해를 돕기위해, 기존의 화염소 모델을 채택한 음향파 응답 연구 결과와의 상관성을 찾아 본 해석 결과를 분석하였다.

비정상 유동의 메탄/공기 혼합기 반응안정성 효과 연구 (Combustion Stability and the Properties of Methane/Air Mixture Subjected to Unsteady Flow Fluctuations)

  • Flame extinction and the chemistry of stoichiometric methane/air mixture were investigated numerically in the PSR(perfectly stirred reactor). For the study, PSR code was modified to be possible to unsteady calculation, and the sinusoidal fluctuation was subjected to the residence time. In the region of residence time far from the extinction limit, combustion mode was strongly dependent on the frequency. The low frequency excitation provided the quasi-steady behavior on the temperature and the concentrations of related species, but small variation of temperature was observed under high frequency. In the region of residence time near the extinction limit, the mixture subjected above 1 KHz was still reacting even though extinction had to be occurred under quasi-steady concept. The attenuation of extinction limit resulted from that chemical time was comparable to the flow time. The mean mole fractions of both NO and CO were almost same regardless of imposed frequency. However, the average mole fraction of $C_2H_2$ was decreased as increasing frequency, which implies that soot yield might be reduced at the higher frequency of flow excitation. The result provides the basic concept for flame stabilization, and it will be used to design a mild combustor.

혼합 다중대역 여기모델에 기반한 저 전송률 음성 부호화기의 설계 (Design of a Low Bit-rate Speech Coder Based on Mixed Multi-band Excitation Model)

  • 다중대역 여기부호화 (MBE: multi-band excitation) 음성 부호화기는 고조파 대역별로 유/무성음 판단을 수행함으로써 한 프레임 내에서 유성음과 무성음이 혼합되는 경우를 잘 모델링할 수 있다. 하지만 같은 주파수 대역에서는 유성음 성분과 무성음 성분이 공존할 수 없다. 또한 유/무성음 판단 과정에서 경험에 의한 임계치와의 비교 과정이 필요하므로 원음 스펙트럼과 합성음 스펙트럼간의 오류가 큰 경우가 발생하는 단점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 모든 주파수 영역에서 유성음 성분과 무성음 성분이 혼합되는 것을 허용하는 혼합다중대역 여기 부호화 (MMBE: mixed multi-band excitation) 음성 모델을 제안하고, 모델 파라미터인 주파수 영역 혼합함수를 임계치와의 비교없이 효과적으로 추정할 수 있는 방법을 제시한다. 제안한 음성 모델을 적용한 2.6 kbps 음성 부호화기를 구현해 본 결과, 2.9 kbps의 전송률을 갖는 MBE음성 부호화기에 비해서 낮은 전송률에서도 더 우수한 합성음 음질을 가지는 것으로 나타났다.

  • 동기발전기 출력전압은 여자시스템의 계자전류 제어에 의해 일정하게 유지된다. 고주파 PWM 컨버터(전류제어 모드 buck 컨버터) 형태의 여자시스템은 부하변동이 발생하였을 때 동기발전기의 계자전류를 제어하게 된다. 이 논문은 정상상태 및 과도상태에서의 안정화를 개선하기 위하여 여자시스템의 설계 및 실험에 대해 다루었다. 시뮬레이션 및 실험 결과는 제안된 여자시스템이 50[kW] 동기발전기의 DVR에 의해 응답시간이 개선되었음을 보여주었다.

  • A cylindrical permanent magnet inside the four-phase permanent magnet (PM) stepping motor is employed as the rotor. The stator has four teeth around, which its coils are wound. The mode of excitation can be classified into 3 modes: single-phase excitation, two-phase excitation and ministep excitation. The ministep drive is a method to subdivide one step into several small steps by means of electronics. The paper presents the programmable ministep technique drive. This technique decodes the results obtained from the counter to locate the data in Read Only Memory (ROM). The Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) is transformed to binary file and saved to the ROM. The experiment is performed with the four-phase PM stepping motor and drives from a two-phase programmable sinusoidal ministep signal, instead of square wave. The results show that the performances of the proposed programmable ministep technique drive have high efficiency, smooth step motion, and high speed response. Moreover, the resolution of sinusoidal ministep signal can be controlled by the input frequency (f command).
