Stage-level reconfigurable chip multiprocessor (CMP) aims to achieve highly reliable and fault tolerant computing by using interwoven pipeline stages and on-chip interconnect for communicating with each other. The existing crossbar-switch based stage-level reconfigurable CMPs offer high reliability at the cost of significant area/power overheads. These overheads make realizing large CMPs prohibitive due to the area and power consumed by heavy interconnection networks. On other hand, area/power-efficient architectures offer less reliability and inefficient stage-level resource utilization. In this paper, I propose a hierarchical multiplexing interconnection structure in lieu of crossbar interconnect to design area/power-efficient stage-level reconfigurable CMP. The proposed approach is able to keep the reliability offered by the crossbar-switch while reducing the area and power overheads. Experimental results show that the proposed approach reduces area by up to 21% and power by up to 32% when compared with the crossbar-switch based interconnection network.

With the increase of portable system and high-density IC, power consumption of VLSI circuits is very important factor in design process. Power estimation is required in order to estimate the power consumption. A simple and correct solution of power estimation is to use circuit simulation. But it is very time consuming and inefficient way. Probabilistic method has been proposed to overcome this problem. Transition density using probability was an efficient method to estimate power consumption using BDD and Boolean difference. But it is difficult to build the BDD and compute complex Boolean difference. In this paper, we proposed Propowest. Propowest is building a digraph of circuit, and easy and fast in computing transition density by using modified COP algorithm. Propowest provides an efficient way for power estimation.

Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) offers the advantages of simple and robust motor construction, high speeds and high efficiencies over a wide operating range of torque and speed, excellent controllability. However, SRM has the disadvantages of high current harmonics, and low power factor because of a capacitor filter is inserted in the power converter and inductance of SRM is high, it has pulse waveform of current. This paper deals with an energy efficient converter fed SRM system with the reduced harmonics and improved power factor and with higher efficiency. The validity of the proposed scheme is verified via experiment. We are implemented the proposed control system using 80C196KC micro-controller.
This paper covers switched reluctance generator (SRG) and its comparison with induction and synchronous machines for distributed generation. The SRG is simple in design, robust in construction, and fault tolerant in operation; it can also withstand very high temperatures. However, the performance and cost of the SRG power electronics driver are highly affected by the topology and design of the converter. IGBT and MOSFET based converters are not suitable for very high power applications. This paper presents thyristor-based resonant converters which are superior candidates for very high power applications. Operations of the converters are analyzed and their characteristics and dynamics are determined in terms of the system parameters. The resonant converters are capable of handling high currents and voltages; these converters are highly efficient and reliable as well. Therefore, they are suitable for high power applications in the range of 1MW or larger for distributed generation.

A new magnetic ballast was designed and developed to get high luminous efficiency. The core material of new magnetic ballast was G-9 and its shape of core is modified. The diameter of the coil was upgraded to 0.5[mm], and a new power-saving circuit was designed for the semiconductor ignition starter. The experimental results of the ballast showed reduction of the electric loss in the magnetic ballast about 1.7Watt (0.5[%]). The luminous efficiency was increased by 6.2 lm/Watt (7.6[%]) and the ballast efficiency factor(BEF) of 1.09(7.6[%]). The prototype was tested through national standard testing procedure. A high efficient energy-using equipment (the second grade in the efficiency of energy consumption) was certified. The saving power of 1.7[W] was shown by lighting appratus for fluorescent lamps. The result will be used for the high efficient magnetic ballast technology.nology.
With the recent advances in Micro Electro Mechanical System (MEMS) technology, low cost and low power consumption wireless micro sensor nodes have become available. However, energy-efficient routing is one of the most important key technologies in wireless sensor networks as sensor nodes are highly energy-constrained. Therefore, many researchers have proposed routing protocols for sensor networks, especially cluster-based routing protocols, which have many advantages such as reduced control messages, bandwidth re-usability, and improved power control. Some protocols use information on the locations of sensor nodes to construct clusters efficiently. However, it is rare that all sensor nodes know their positions. In this article, we propose another cluster-based routing protocol for sensor networks. This protocol does not use information concerning the locations of sensor nodes, but uses the remaining energy of sensor networks and the desirable number of cluster heads according to the circumstances of the sensor networks. From performance simulation, we found that the proposed protocol shows better performance than the low-energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH).
The probabilistic production simulation of power system generally has been used to formulate a reasonable power production plan or generation planning. It integrates the convolution process of a generating unit's random outage(FOR) with equivalent load duration curve(ELDC), and provides the reliability indices of power system. This paper presents the reliability characteristics of power system reflected on demand side management and proposes the modified ELDC representation technique due to the high-efficient end-use diffusion among the customers. Load reductions are simulated from the multi-state deconvolution process with the saved capacity of end-use. Case study shows the computed reliability from the power system production simulation incorporated with DSM planning scheme.
Differential power processing (DPP) systems are among the most effective architectures for photovoltaic (PV) power systems because they are highly efficient as a result of their distributed local maximum power point tracking ability, which allows the fractional processing of the total generated power. However, DPP systems require a high-efficiency, high step-up/down bidirectional converter with broad operating ranges and galvanic isolation. This study proposes a single, magnetic, high-efficiency, high step-up/down bidirectional DC-DC converter. The proposed converter is composed of a bidirectional flyback and a bidirectional isolated switched-capacitor cell, which are competitively cheap. The output terminals of the flyback converter and switched-capacitor cell are connected in series to obtain the voltage step-up. In the reverse power flow, the converter reciprocally operates with high efficiency across a broad operating range because it uses hard switching instead of soft switching. The proposed topology achieves a genuine on-off interleaved energy transfer at the transformer core and windings, thus providing an excellent utilization ratio. The dynamic characteristics of the converter are analyzed for the controller design. Finally, a 240 W hardware prototype is constructed to demonstrate the operation of the bidirectional converter under a current feedback control loop. To improve the efficiency of a PV system, the maximum power point tracking method is applied to the proposed converter.

An alternative to the nuclear and fossil fuel power is renewable energy technologies (hydro, wind, solar and ocean), and the research about the highest efficiency machinery have been processed. The high-power LED is the representative one among those. In this paper, a high efficiency lighting system using a battery charged with solar or wind power is proposed for a high power LED. And a new efficient converter called 'Back-boost' is proposed. The validity of the lighting system scheme is verified by experimental results based on a laboratory prototype.
An Internet of Things (IoT) is a system where various "things" are connected to each other via a wired/wireless network, and where information is gathered, processed, and interchanged/shared. One of the important actors in IoT is a mobile IoT device (such as a smartphone or tablet). These devices tend to consume a large amount of power in order to provide various high performance application services; however, as the devices cannot be supplied with power all the time, efficient power management is necessary. Power management of mobile IoT devices involves complex relationships between various entities such as application processors (APs), HW modules inside/outside AP, operating systems, mobile IoT platforms, and applications. In order to develop power-efficient mobile IoT devices, a method is needed to systematically analyze these relationships and manage power based on a clear understanding of them. To address this problem, software engineering principles for the development of power-efficient mobile IoT devices are presented in this paper. The feasibility of the proposed principles have been validated in the domain of smartphone camera power management.
