Geosynthetics are widely used in different ways such as reinforcement of structures in road, railway, harbor and dam engineering, drainage, separation and erosion prevention. They are especially applied to reinforced retaining wall and slope or ground reinforcement. Recently, geosynthetics reinforced pile supported (GRPS) embankment was developed to improve stability and construability of embankments in railway engineering. Extension strains are usually measured by strain gauges adhered to geosynthetics to evaluate the stability of geosynthetics. However, the measurements are influenced by manufacturing method and stiffness of geosynthetics and also adherence of strain gauge. In this study, wide-width tensile strength tests were performed on three types of geosynthetics including geogrid, woven geotextile and non-woven geotextile. During the test, strains of geosynthetics were measured by both video extensometer and strain gauges adhered to the geosynthetics and the measured results were compared. Results show that the measured results by strain gauges have high reliability in case of large stiffness geosythetics like geogrid and woven geotextile, whereas they have very low reliability for small stiffness geosythetics like non-woven geotextile.
Over the last few decades, many researches have been conducted in order to find solution to the problem of corrosion in steel reinforced concrete. As a result, methods such as the use of stainless steel bars, epoxy coatings, and concrete additives, etc., have been tried. While effective in some situations, such remedies may still be unable to completely eliminate the problems of steel corrosion. Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) elements are appealing as reinforcement due to some material properties such as high tensile strength, low density, and noncorrosive. However, due to the generally lower modulus of elasticity of FRP in comparison with the steel and the linear behavior of FRP, certain aspects of the structural behavior of RC members reinforced with FRP may be substantially different from similar elements reinforced with steel reinforcement. This paper presents the flexural behavior of one-way concrete slabs reinforced with FRP bars. They were simply supported and tested in the laboratory under static loading conditions to investigate their crack pattern and width, deflections, strains and mode of failure. The experimental results shows that behavior of the FRP reinforced slabs was bilinearly elastic until failure. Also, the results show that the FRP overreinforced concrete beams in this study can be safe for design in terms of deformability.
In recent years, the availability of high-strength reinforcing and prestressing steels leads us to build economically and efficiently designed concrete structural members. One of critical problems faced to the structural engineers dealing with these types of structural member is controls of crack width that is used as a criterion for the serviceability in the limit state design. Especially, flexural cracking must be controlled to secure the structural safety and to improve the durability as well as serviceability of the load carving members. The proposed method utilizes the results of pure tension test in which tensile loads are applied both side of specimen, done by Ikki. The bond characteristics of deformed reinforcing bar under pure tension is considered by the area of concrete and rib area. The results of proposed method are compared with the test data and the results show that the proposed method can take into account the dimensions, variation of sectional properties, and direction of reinforcing and gives more accurate maximum bond stress and corresponding relative slip than the existing methods. the characteristics of bonding is considered by using dimensionless slip magnitude and effective reinforcement ratio. The validity of the proposed equation is verified by test experimental data.
Aggregate resources in Korea are expected to run out owing to an increase in development demand and construction investment. Recycled concrete aggregates (RCA), extracted from waste concrete, have a lower quality than natural aggregates. However, RCA can produce concrete similar in quality to the normal concrete by aggregate pretreatment, use of admixtures, and quality control. RCA are most suitable for use in precast concrete products such as sidewalk blocks and revetment blocks. Herein, the feasibility of producing revetment blocks using recycled aggregate concrete (RAC), similar in quality to normal concrete, was analyzed. The amount of RCA was varied, and moderate high early strength cement and steam curing were used to produce the concrete test blocks. In the block test, the load resistance characteristics of the blocks were evaluated to determine optimal RAC and glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) rebar compositions. Thus, the variable that reduced the cement content was determined at the same level as that of natural aggregate concrete by the control of steam curing. In the concrete block test, although this depends on the reinforcement ratio, the RAC block exhibited the same or better performance than a normal concrete block. Therefore, the low quality of RCA in RAC is no longer a problem when concrete mixing and curing are controlled and appropriate reinforcement is used.

This paper conducts an evaluation of the structural performance of the lap splice detail of SD700 headed bar experiment for developing an RC beam with different depths joint details. The experiment variable is lap splice length, yield strength, and end anchorage of main reinforcements. For all specimens, a headed bar was applied to the main reinforcement of the beam with low depth (B2), and the beam with high depth (B1) was applied to the main reinforcement with two splice methods: straight headed bar and 90° hooked-headed bar. The experimental results were that specimens of applying SD500 and SD600 had the results of flexural fracture at the lap splice location, which maximum load was similar. For specimens of appling SD500, the 90° hooked-headed bar of B1, suppressed horizontal cracks in the lap splice section compared to the straight headed bar. Specimens of applying an SD 700 headed bar had the results of brittle anchorage failure. In addition, maximum load was increased with the lap splice length increasing. For specimens of applying SD700 headed bar, test for test maximum load/theoretical load for test development length/design development length were estimated to be 1.30~1.48 for the ACI 318-19 equation, and 1.14~1.30 for the KDS-2021 equation. Thus, ACI 318-19 equation had conservatively greater safety factors as estimated development lengththened.
Underground structures, such as compacted sand piles applied as soft ground countermeasures, are analyzed for settlement and stability by the composite ground design method. The basic principle of the composite ground design method is the arching effect. The reinforcing effect of the pile is evaluated as the stress-distribution ratio. When applying grouting piles with elastic properties using the ground reinforcement method, the existing stress-distribution ratio was only considered when the pile was installed. This study shows that the method of applying the stress-distribution ratio applied in previous studies should be changed when the ground reinforcement pile is installed at an arbitrary location in the ground without raising it to the ground surface. When high strength jet routing is applied, the stress-distribution ratio (n) to the in-situ ground generally ranges from 30 to 50. However, if the pile is located far from the surface and the depth goes down to the boundary depth of the stress sphere, the stress-distribution effect rapidly decreases, and the stress-distribution ratio converges to 1.5.

Researches and studies which have been conducted so far on external confinement of long span concrete columns have mainly concentrated on concentric loading. But, long span bridge concrete columns over the sea are mainly subjected to concentrated axial load, and at the same time lange amount of moment by eccentric load. This paper experimentally investigates the performance of externally confined high-strength concrete columns subjected to loading mechanism and evaluates the effectiveness of two confinement materials carbon fibre and high performance glass fibre. Twelve short columns with the same dimensions were cast and tested Six columns were reinforced with hoop bars, the remaining six columns were reinforced with spiral bars and wrapped with three layers of carbon failure and high performance glass FRP sheets. Test variables considered were the shape of internal reinforcement and strengthening materials according to loading location. The experimental results showed that eccentric load could obviously lower down the maximum failure load of FRP-confined concrete columns, compared with the columns under concentric load. And compared with the carbon FRP-confined reinforced concrete columns, high performance glass FRP-confined columns displayed a higher load capacity and ductility, when tested both concentrically and eccentrically.
If cement can be manufactured with industrial byproducts such as granulated blast furnace slag, phosphogypsum, and waste lime instead of clinker, there would be many advantages, including maximum use of these industrial byproducts for high value-added resources, conservation of natural resources and energy by omitting the use of clinker, minimized environmental pollution problems caused by CO2 discharge, and reduction of the production cost. By this reason, in this study, mechanical behavior tests of non-burnt cement concrete were performed, and elasticity modulus and stress-strain relationship of non-burnt cement concrete were proposed. 6 test members were manufactured and tested according to reinforcement ratio and concrete compressive strength. By the test results, there was no difference between ordinary concrete and non-burnt cement concrete of flexural behavior. In order to verify the proposed non-burnt cement concrete model, nonlinear analytical model was derived by using strain compatibility method. By the results of comparison between test results, ordinary concrete model and proposed model, The proposed model well predicted the flexural behavior of non-burnt cement concrete.

If cement could be manufactured with industrial byproducts such as granulated blast furnace slag, phosphogypsum, and waste lime rather than clinker, there would be many advantages, including the maximization of the use of these industrial byproducts for high value-added resources, the conservation of natural resources and energy by omitting the use of clinker, the minimization of environmental pollution problems caused by $CO_2$ discharge, and the reduction of the production cost. For this reason, in this study, mechanical behavior tests of non-sintered cement concrete were performed, and elasticity modulus and stress-strain relationship of non-sintered cement concrete were proposed. Nine test members were manufactured and tested according to reinforcement ratio and concrete compressive strength. According to the test results, there was no difference between general cement concrete and non-sintered cement concrete in terms of flexure and shear behavior.
The aim of this study is to analyze the mechanical characteristics and settlement feature of the composite ground with structural form changes. The laboratory model test is a soil tanker to be contained with clay and grid form improved soil, which is conducted in total 9 case with the uniaxial compressive strength of improved soil and replacement ratio of improved soil. The numerical analysis for variation of stress distribution ratio with depth was performed in the same conditions which are the laboratory model test. As a result, stress distribution ratios in mid and high replacement ratio are increasing and settlement is decreasing, except low replacement ratio. This study is presented for form effect ratio and settlement reduction factor with change of structure form, which is able to be helpful in further research and reference for change of structural forms at composite ground.
