The major shortcoming of concrete in most of the applications is its high self-weight and thermal conductivity. The emerging trend to overcome these shortcomings is the use of foam-concrete, which is a lightweight concrete consisting of cement, filler, water and a foaming agent. This study aims at the development of a cost-effective high-volume fly-ash foam-concrete insulation wall cladding for existing buildings using natural fiber like rice straw in different proportions. The paper reports the results of systematic studies on various mechanical, acoustic, thermal and durability properties of foam-concrete with and without replacement of cement by fly-ash. Fly-ash replaces 60 percent by weight of cement in foam-concrete. The water-solid ratio of 0.3, the filler ratio of 1:1 by weight, and the density of 1100 kg/㎥ (approx.) are fixed for all the mixes. Rice straw at 1%, 3% and 5% by weight of cement was added to improve the thermal and acoustic efficiency. From the investigations, it was inferred that the strength properties were increased with fly-ash replacement up to 1% rice straw addition. In furtherance, addition of rice straw and fly-ash resulted in improved acoustic and thermal properties.
This research aimed to investigate the influence of high-volume mineral admixtures (MAs), i.e., fly ash and slag, on the hydration characteristics and microstructures of cement pastes. Degree of cement hydration was quantified by the loss-on-ignition technique and degree of pozzolanic reaction was determined by a selective dissolution method. The influence of MAs on the pore structure of paste was measured by mercury intrusion porosimetry. The results showed that the hydration properties of the blended pastes were a function of water to binder ratio, cement replacement level by MAs, and curing age. Pastes containing fly ash exhibited strongly reduced early strength, especially for mix with 45% fly ash. Moreover, at a similar cement replacement level, slag incorporated cement paste showed higher degrees of cement hydration and pozzolanic reaction than that of fly ash incorporated cement paste. Thus, the present study demonstrates that high substitution rates of slag for cement result in better effects on the short- and long-term hydration properties of cement pastes.
This study evaluated durability through measurement of substituted test piece's pH degree and experiments of neutralization. Comparing and evaluating cared test piece's pH degrees which we got before the neutralization and after the neutralization. After evaluating neutralization depth through neutralization, evaluating neutralization properties by Fly Ash replacement ratio. pH degree was decreased by cement replacement ratio of Fly Ash. And in the case of substitution of the same amount of Fly Ash, fine aggregate replacement ratio was increased. When the test piece, which had been cared in high temperature, was promoted to neutralization, Among the test piece which was replaced with Fly Ash 40%, the test piece which has high rate of fine aggregate proved opposition of neutralization Through the test, Ⅰ summarized that the test piece cared in high temperature was mostly effected by compress strength, the test piece cared in low temperature was mostly effected by pH degree.
This paper presents results of research performed to identify optimum mix proportions for production of flowable fill with high volume fly ash content. The fly ash used in this study met the requirements of KS L 5405 and ASTM C 618 for Class F material. Tests were carried out on concrete designed to have 10 ~ 15kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ compressive strength at the 28-day age with fly ash contents of approximately 280kg/㎥. Slump was held at 25$\pm$1cm for all mixtures produced compressive strengths at 28 days were found to range from 5.03 to 13.69kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$.
The effect of fly ash to prevent detrimental expansion due to alkali -silica reaction was investigated through the ASTM C 1260 method that is one of the most commonly used method because results can be obtained within about 16 days. Reactive aggregate used is a netamorphic rock and sedimentary rock. The replacement proportions of portland cement by fly ash were respectively 0, 5, 10, 15, 25 and 35 percent. Expansion of mortar bars due to alkali-silica reaction decreased with the increase of fly ash content. The results show that the expansion due to alkali-silica reaction is dramatically reduced in the presence of high volume fly ash. When the fly ash content examine from all angles (strength and a flow), the replacement proportions of fly ash is about $25\%$ in order to control on expansion.
Recently, the coal-ash production has been increased by increase of consumption of electric power. So it is important to secure a reclaimed land from pollution and develop practical application of coal ash. This is an experimental study to compare and analyze the properties of concrete using high volume of coal ash (including fly ash and bottom ash) as a part of fine aggregate. For this purpose, the mix proportions of concrete according to replacement ratio of coal ash (10, 20, 35, 50%) were selected. And then air content, slump, setting time, bleeding content, chloride content, compressive strength and carbonation test were performed. According to test results, it was found that the bleeding content of concrete using the coal ash decreased according to increase of replacement ratio. And the chloride content of concrete using the bottom ash as a part of fine aggregate increased as the replacement ratio of bottom ash increased, but it is satisfied with the total chloride content of concrete recommended by KCI - $0.3kg/m^3$ below. Also, the compressive strength of concrete using the bottom ash was similar to that of plain concrete(BA 0) after 28days of curing and the carbonation depth of concrete increased as the replacement ratio increased. However, the carbonation depth of concrete using the fly ash decreased as the replacement ratio of fly ash increased.
To study of binder and fine aggregate a lot of replacement fly-ash concrete, initial characteristics, standard environment of curing temperature $20^{\circ}C$, hot-weather environment, cold weather environment of curing temperature $5^{\circ}C$. Flash concrete tested slump, air contest, setting and Hardening concrete valuated setting period of form, day of age 3, 7, 28 compression strength in sealing curing. Underwater curing specimen compression strength of age 3. 7, 28day used strength change accordingly fly-ash concrete curing temperature. Purpose of study is consultation materials in field that variety of fly-ash replacement concrete mix proportion comparison and valuation. (1) Setting test result, fly-ash ratio of replacement higher delay totting time. Same volume of fly-ash ratio of replacement is lower fly-ash ratio of replacement fine aggregate delay setting time. Setting test in curing temperature $35^{\circ}C$ over twice fast setting in curing temperature $20^{\circ}C$ and all specimen setting delay in curing temperature $5^{\circ}C$. F40 specimen end of setting about 30 time. (2) Experiment result age 28day compression strength more fisher plan concrete then standard environment in curing temperature $20^{\circ}C$, cold weather environment in curing temperature $5^{\circ}C$, most strength F43 is hot-weather environment in curing temperature $35^{\circ}C$ replacement binder 25%, fine aggregate 15%. (3) Hot-weather environment replacement a mount of fly-ash is a same of plan concrete setting period of form. Age 28day compression strength replacement a mount of fly-ash more hot-weather concrete then plan concrete.
