Simultaneous tidal current observation at five or seven stations on the channel near Incheon Habour was conducted at neap, mean and spring tides during the period of August 16 to August 27, 1976 and the characteristic of tidal currents with each tide was studied by the analysis of these data. Times of slack refer to the times of high and low waters at neap, mean and spring tides seem to be small. Times of maximum current refer to the times of high and low waters at the mean tide tends to appear earlier than that of the neap tide and later than that of the spring tide. The velocity ratio of maximum ebb current to maximum flood current at the mean tide has larger value than that of neap tide and has smaller value than that of spring tide. The current velocity ratio of spring tide to neap tide and to mean tide are approximately 1.8 and 1.3, respectively.

Changes in tides and tidal currents in Chonsu Bay caused by the construction of Seosan A and B reclamation regions have been investigated using a depth-integrated two-dimensional tidal model. Three water level recorders were deployed for about one month and used for the specification of the open boundary condition. The computed currents were found to be in a good agreement with the measurements at two stations within Chonsu Bay. Comparison of the absolute velocities computed with the conditions before and after the embankment clearly shows that the reduction in tidal current amplitude is evident throughout the bay and the magnitude of the reduction increases to the north. Calculation shows that the embankment has advanced the time of drying at the northern part of the bay by about 51 minutes and has increased the exposure time by about 23 minutes. The high water time has advanced by about 1 hour, lowering the high water level by about 15 cm.

During our observations of changes in halophyte distribution in Hampyeong Bay over a period of five years, we found that the distribution area showed a maintenance for Phragmites communis community, a tendency of gradual increase for Zoysia sinica community, gradual decrease for Suaeda maritima community, and disappearance for Limonium tetragonum community during the studied period. The Phragmites communis community stably settled in areas adjacent to land and appeared not to be significantly affected by physical factors (such as tides and waves) or disturbances caused by biological factors (such as interspecific competition). Among studied species, germination time was shown to be the fastest for Suaeda maritima. In addition, this species showed certain characteristics that allowed it to settle primarily in new habitats formed by sand deposition as its growth was not halted under conditions with high amounts of sand and high organic matter content. However, in areas where Zoysia sinica and Suaeda maritima resided together, the area inhabited by Suaeda maritima gradually decreased due to interspecific competition between the two species. This was believed to be the result of a sharp decrease in the germination of Suaeda maritima since May, while the germination of Zoysia sinica was continuously maintained, indicating that the latter had an advantage in terms of seedling competition. In the case of the Limonium tetragonum community, its habitat was found to have been completely destroyed because it was covered by sand. The study area was confirmed to have undergone a large change in topography as tides and waves resulted in sand deposition onto these lands. Hampyeong Bay is considered to have experienced changes in halophyte distribution related to certain complex factors, such as changes in physical habitats and changes in biological factors such as interspecific competition.
Vertical and horizontal distributions of chemical oceanograthic parameters were measured in Jinhae Bay in July, 1983. On the Masan-Gadeog section, high amounts of dissolved nitrates, ammonia, chlorophylla-a, and particulate carbon and nitrogen were observed in waters with low salinity. In the inner Masan Bay, high concentrations of dissolved ammonia and phosphates were shown. The C/N ratio in the surface waters was higer in the outer bay. Concentrations of dissolved inorganic nitrogen and phosphates in the surface waters seemed to be sufficient for red tides to occur.

Cochlodinium polykrikoides red tides have caused great economic losses in the aquaculture industry in many countries. To investigate the roles of metazooplankton in red tide dynamics of C. polykrikoides in the South Sea of Korea, the abundance of metazooplankton was measured at 60 stations over 1- or 2-week intervals from May to November 2014. In addition, the grazing impacts of dominant metazooplankton on red tide species and their potential heterotrophic protistan grazers were estimated by combining field data on the abundance of red tide species, heterotrophic protist grazers, and dominant metazooplankton with data obtained from the literature concerning ingestion rates of the grazers on red tide species and heterotrophic protists. The mean abundance of total metazooplankton at each sampling time during the study was 297-1,119 individuals $m^{-3}$. The abundance of total metazooplankton was significantly positively correlated with that of phototrophic dinoflagellates (p < 0.01), but it was not significantly correlated with water temperature, salinity, and the abundance of diatoms, euglenophytes, cryptophytes, heterotrophic dinoflagellates, tintinnid ciliates, and naked ciliates (p > 0.1). Thus, dinoflagellate red tides may support high abundance of total metazooplankton. Copepods dominated metazooplankton assemblages at all sampling times except from Jul 11 to Aug 6 when cladocerans and hydrozoans dominated. The calculated maximum grazing coefficients attributable to calanoid copepods on C. polykrikoides and Prorocentrum spp. were 0.018 and $0.029d^{-1}$, respectively. Therefore, calanoid copepods may not control populations of C. polykrikoides or Prorocentrum spp. Furthermore, the maximum grazing coefficients attributable to calanoid copepods on the heterotrophic dinoflagellates Polykrikos spp. and Gyrodinium spp., which were grazers on C. polykrikoides and Prorocentrum spp., respectively, were 0.008 and $0.047d^{-1}$, respectively. Therefore, calanoid copepods may not reduce grazing impact by these heterotrophic dinoflagellate grazers on populations of the red tide dinoflagellates.
The contents of inorganic conservative constituents in Nagdong River water were determined at Mulgeum where the intake station for Busan city water is located. Samples were taken at intervals of one hour from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at spring and neap tides of every month from January 1979 to April 1980. Annual ranges and means of the chemical constituents were as follows: electrical conductivity $99-912\mu\mho/cm,\;200\mu\mho/cm;$ chlorides 6.0-256 ppm, 17.2 ppm; sulfates 4.1-37.9 ppm, 23.5 ppm; calcium 4.2-28 ppm, 13 ppm; magnesium 2.2-23 ppm, 5.6 ppm; sodium 5,0-126 ppm, 14 ppm; and potassium 1.2-10.8 ppm, 2.6 ppm respectively. At several times in this period, the concentrations of chloride ion exceeded 150 ppm that is the criteria for drinking water. The chloride ion concentration was higher at spring tides than that at neap tides and the contents of inorganic conservative constituents were higher in winter than those in summer. The chloride ion concentration showed the highest value at Mulgeum about 4 hors after the high water in Busan harbour.

This study investigate the characteristics of tidal constituents, and long-term mean sea level oscillations at Incheon bay. For this, the conditions of three tide stations around Incheon bay have examined, and carried out harmonic analysis on water level data for periods of about 40 years(1960~2007). Four major tidal constituents($M_2$, $S_2$, $K_1$, $O_1$) of each tide station showed tendency that change over the 18.61year lunar node cycle, and the type of tide at three stations is mainly semi-diurnal tides. And also, the past monthly tidal modulations are especially sensitive to the cumulative year of water level data in accuracy of tidal prediction. In case that regard the detached data at three tide stations as a single time series data of 40 years, the results of analysis on a single time series, long-term mean sea level oscillations and modulations of tidal datum at tide stations appears with a range of about 10cm, respectively. In addition, the predicted tides at the Inchcon harbor by global and regional tide models of OSU(Oregon State University) based on various satellite altimetric(Topex Poseidon, Topex Tandem, ERS, GFO) data are compared with the observed tides by KHOA(the Korea Hydrographic and Oceanographic Administration). The results show that the high resolution regional model is a quite good agreement at coastal shallow water region.
Using a sledge net, the benthic amphipods were taken over one cycle of the neap and spring tides in January 1993 at the sandy shore surf zone of Dolsando, southern Korea. From these samples, we investigated the diel and tidal effects on the intraspecific zonation of Pontogeneia rostrata. The density of p. rostrata was higher during neap tide than spring. Of three categories (adult males and females and juveniles), juveniles and males attained to its highest density during neap and spring tides, respectively. Length- frequency data show that the high mortality of juveniles seemed to occur in winter. In the surface at night, it is significant that juveniles were significantly more abundant during neap tide than spring, whereas both adult males and females were more abundant during spring tide than neap. This suggests that the vortical migration patterns of juveniles and adults vary with the type of tides. During flood of spring tide, more than $90\%$ of population collected at the area above the mean sea level (MSL) were adults. With a decrease of female/male ratio, size of males increased there but that of female did not change, indicating an active migration of large males. This behavior can provide an extension of distribution area far large males, and also give a competitive advantage to large male against small one for mate and feeding. Although adult p. rostrata was collected at 100 cm above MSL at night during spring tide, a major portion of population as usually present on the shore below MSL. The center of zonation was restricted from 50 cm to 250 cm below MSL.
The Asan Bay, which has semi-diurnal tide with macro-tidal range, is affected by both freshwater discharge from the sluice gates in the sea dikes and tidal seawater inputs from the Yellow sea. Understanding water quality change in response to tides is important since tides can impact the short-term variations in physical and chemical water properties as well as the response of biological properties. The diel variations in water quality were seasonally investigated at 2 hour intervals from a fixed station in the Asan Bay. In the results, water temperature and salinity consistently fluctuated in phase or out of phase with tidal height. Especially salinity was positively correlated with tidal height. The concentrations of total suspended solids were higher in the bottom water than in the surface and fluctuated greatly over the tidal cycle recording higher values at low tide than at high tide. Nitrite+nitrate levels also fluctuated out of phase with tidal height and correlated negatively with tidal height. Other nutrients also showed a similar pattern. The pattern was distinct in July when freshwater was discharged before the field sampling. The concentrations of organic materials, total nitrogen and total phosphorus greatly fluctuated over the tidal cycle and were generally out of phase with tidal height. Most materials except particulate organic forms were correlated with salinity indicating that freshwater inputs were sources for the materials similarly to the dissolved inorganic nutrients. The results suggest that water quality (except dissolved oxygen and pH) and nutrients including organic materials was largely affected by tides in the Asan Bay.

Until 2016, before discussions on the restoration of brackish water of the Nakdong River Estuary started in earnest, the downstream water level was predicted using the data of existing tide level observatories (Busan and Gadeokdo) several kilometers away from the estuary. However, it was not easy to carry out the prediction due to the dif erence in tide level and phase. Therefore, this study was conducted to estimate tide prediction more accurately through tidal harmonic analysis using the measured water level affected by the tides in the offshore waters adjacent to the Nakdong River Estuary. As a research method, the storage status of observation data according to the period and abnormal data were checked at 10-minute intervals in the offshore sea area near the Nakdong River Estuary bank, and the observed and predicted tides were measured using TASK2000 (Tidal Analysis Software Kit) Package, a tidal harmonic analysis program. Regression analysis based on one-to-one comparison showed that the correlation between the two components was high correlation coef icient 0.9334. In predicting the tides for the current year, if possible, more accurate data can be obtained by harmonically analyzing one-year tide observation data from the previous year and performing tide prediction using the obtained harmonic constant. Based on this method, the predicted tide for 2022 was generated and it is being used in the calculation of seawater inflow for the restoration of brackish water of the Nakdong River Estuary.
