  • A frame rate up-conversion scheme is needed when moving pictures with a low frame rate is played on appliances with a high frame rate. Frame rate up-conversion methods interpolate the frame with two consecutive frames of the original source. This can be divided into the frame repetition method and motion estimation-based the frame interpolation one. Frame repetition has very low complexity, but it can yield jerky artifacts. The interpolation method based on a motion estimation and compensation can be divided into pixel or block interpolation methods. In the case of pixel interpolation, the interpolated frame was classified into four areas, which were interpolated using different methods. The block interpolation method has relatively low complexity, but it can yield blocking artifacts. The proposed method is the frame rate up-conversion method based on a block motion estimation and compensation using the linearity of motion. This method uses two previous frames and one next frame for motion estimation and compensation. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm effectively enhances the objective quality, particularly in a high resolution image. In addition, the proposed method has similar or higher subjective quality than other conventional approaches.

  • We developed a novel frame interpolation method to interpolate a frame between two successive original frames. Using this method, we are able to apply a double-rate driving method instead of an impulse driving method where a black frame is inserted between two successive original frames. The double-rate driving method enables amelioration of the motion blur of LCDs caused by the characteristics of human vision without reducing the luminosity of the whole screen. The image quality of the double-rate driving method was also found to be better than that of an impulse driving method using our motion picture simulator and an actual panel. Our initial model of our frame interpolation method consists of motion estimation with a maximum matching pixel count estimation function, an area segmentation technique, and motion compensation with variable segmentation threshold. Although salt and pepper noise remained in a portion of an object mainly due to inaccuracy of motion estimation, we verified the validity of our method and the possibility of improvement in hold-type motion blurring.

  • In this study, we present a denoising algorithm for high-frame-rate videos in an ultra-low illumination environment on the basis of Kalman filtering model and a new motion segmentation scheme. The Kalman filter removes temporal noise from signals by propagating error covariance statistics. Regarded as the process noise for imaging, motion is important in Kalman filtering. We propose a new motion estimation scheme that is suitable for serious noise. This scheme employs the small motion vector characteristic of high-frame-rate videos. Small changing patches are intentionally neglected because distinguishing details from large-scale noise is difficult and unimportant. Finally, a spatial bilateral filter is used to improve denoising capability in the motion area. Experiments are performed on videos with both synthetic and real noises. Results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms other state-of-the-art methods in both peak signal-to-noise ratio objective evaluation and visual quality.

  • In the existing frame-layer rate control for H.264, buffer status and content complexity are used improperly, causing quality fluctuations of high-motion video at low bit rates and high frame rates (under 19.2 kbps at 30 fps). We propose an enhanced H.264 frame-layer rate control scheme to obtain steady video quality and stable buffer management. Experimental results showed that the proposed scheme performed better than existing schemes.

  • In this paper, we present a frame synchronization scheme for high oversampling rate based QPSK receiver system in the underwater acoustic burst transmission. The proposed frame synchronization scheme determines the frame synchronization by comparing a threshold value with the correlation between the received symbol sequence and rotated 16-symbol length CAZAC sequence, which is made by dividing into two 8-symbol length sequences and then concatenating the latter sequence and the former one. If the correlation value is bigger than the threshold value, the frame detector determines that the frame synchronization is achieved at that sample. Also, the approximated performance of designed frame detector is derived and it is well fit the simulated result.

  • In general, speech coding methods are classified into the following three categories: the waveform coding, the source coding and the hybrid coding. Fast speaking is possible to encode with a few information compared with slow speaking rate. In case of speaking rate, low frequency band is more important than high frequency band while listening. Speech vocoding technique is developing to way with low bit rate and complexity and high sound quality. the CELP type of vocoder support very good sound quality with low bit rate but these vocoders don't consider about the speaking rate. When we consider speaking rate and encode the frame depending on the speaking rate, the bit rate is able to reduce the bit rate than the conventional vocoder. We propose the technique to estimate the speaking rate and applied PSOLA technique in case of the frame of slow speaking rate. As a result of simulation bit rate can be reduced about 300 bps.

  • Conventional inertial measurement units cannot be used in the spinning vehicle with high rotation rate due to gyro's narrow operation range. By the way, angular acceleration can be measured using the accelerometer array distributed in the vehicle. This paper derives a mechanization for the gyro-free INS in the navigation frame, and proposes a gyro-free INS algorithm based on the derived mechanization. In addition, the proposed algorithm is used to estimate angular velocity, attitude, velocity, and position of a spinning vehicle with high rotation rate. A MATLAB-based software platform is configured in order to show validation of the proposed algorithm. The reference trajectory of a spinning vehicle at 3 round per second, 30 round per second are set up, and the outputs of accelerometer are generated when triads of accelerometer are located at the origin and all the axes. Navigation results of the proposed algorithm for the generated output are presented. The results show that the proposed navigation algorithm can be applied to the spinning vehicle with high rotation rate.

  • We developed a novel Fame interpolation method to interpolate a frame between two successive original frames. Using this method, we are able to apply a double-rate driving method instead of an impulse driving method where a black Fame is inserted between two successive original Fames. The double-rate driving method enables improvement to the motion blur of LCDs caused by the characteristics of human vision without reducing the luminosity of the whole screen. Here, we report on the initial model of our frame interpolation method.

  • In this letter, the constant driving power reduction ratio has been achieved for column drivers regardless of the input image by incorporating a new static power reduction scheme into the previous dynamic power reduction method. The measured power reduction ratio is around 50% for a 120 Hz liquid crystal display panel in such cases of still input video and fallback.
