  • This paper presents an implementation of high-dynamic performance control system of Reluctance Synchronous Motor (RSM) drives for an industrial servo system with direct torque control (DTC). The problems of DTC for high-dynamic performance and maximum efficiency RSM drives are the nonlinear variable flux and inductance due to a saturated stator linkage flux and nonlinear inductance curve with various load currents. The accurate estimation of the stator flux and torque are obtained using stator flux observer of which a saturated inductance Ld and Lq can be compensated by using the adapted neural network from measuring the modulus and angle of the stator current. To obtain fast torque response and maximum torque/current with varying load current, the reference command flux is ensured by imposing Ids=Iqs. This control strategy is proposed to fast response and optimal efficiency for RSM drive. In order to prove rightness of the suggested control algorithm, we have some actual experimental system using 6000 pulse/rev encoder at ${\pm}10$ and ${\pm}1500rpm$. The developed digitally high-performance control system are shown some good response characteristics of control results and high performance features using 1.0kW RSM of which has 2.57 Ld/Lq salient ratio.

  • This paper presents a high-performance control system for Reluctance Synchronous Motor (RSM) drives with direct torque control (DTC). The system consist of stator flux observer, rotor position/speed estimator, torque estimator, two hysteresis band controllers, an optimal switching look-up table, IGBT voltage source inverter, and F240/C31DSP controller by using fully integrated control software. The stator flux observer is based on the combined voltage and current model with stator flux feedback adaptive control that inputs are current and voltage sensing of motor terminal with estimated rotor angle for wide speed range. The rotor position is estimated by the observed stator flux-linkage space vector. The estimated rotor speed can be determinated by differentiation of the rotor position used only in the current model part of the flux observer for a low speed operating area. To prove the suggested control algorithm, we have a simulation and testing at actual experimental system. The developed digitally high-performance position sensorless control system are shown a good motion control response characteristic results and high performance features using 1.0Kw RSM.

  • A hgih efficiency and good dynamic performance drive system of an induction motor is presented in this paper using vector control technique. If the induction motor is driven under light loads with rated flux, the iron loss is excessively large compared with the copper loss, resulting in poor motor efficiency. High efficiency drive of an induction motor can be achieved by adjusting the flux level which leads the total motor loss to be a minimum value. Generally reducing the flux degrades the dynamic performance, but the dynamic performance of the proposed system is also maintained high. If the d-axis is coincident with rotor flux phasor in synchronous rotating reference frame, the stator current can be decoupled as flux component and torque component. At steady state, the developed motor torque is proportional to the product of the flux and torque component. The combination of the two components minimizing the motor loss could be found with numerical method. As the procedure to obtain the optimal combination is too hard, it is found experimentally. The system block diagram is suggested for maximum efficiency control. The proposed system is studied through digital simulation and verified with experiment. The experimental results show the possiblity of a high efficiency drive with good dynamic performance of maximum efficiency control.

  • This paper presents an implementation of digital high-performance speed sensorless control system of an induction motor drives with Direct Torque Control(DTC). The system consists of closed loop stator flux and torque observer, speed and torque estimators, two hysteresis controllers, an optimal switching look-up table, IGBT voltage source inverter, and TMS320C31 DSP controller board. The stator flux observer is based on the combined current and voltage model with stator flux feedback adaptive control for wide speed range. The speed estimator is using the model reference adaptive system(MRAS) with rotor flux linkages for speed turning signal estimation. In order to prove the suggested speed sensorless control algorithm, and to obtain a high-dynamic robust adaptive performance, we have some simulations and actual experiments at low(20rpm) and high(1000rpm) speed areas. The developed speed sensorless system are shown a good speed control response characteristic, and high performance features using 2.2[kW] general purposed induction motor.

  • Nocolok brazing requires flux at the joining area and low-concentration flux is uniformly spreaded to products to be brazed in a chamber. However high-concentration flux needs to be applied only to a necessary spot. In general, high-concentration flux is manually applied for conventional brazing furnaces, resulting in low production efficiency and harmful environments for workers due to particles and heat etc. Therefore an economical and efficient automatic spreading system needs to be developed. In this study, an efficient automatic spreading system of high-concentration flux was successfully developed and tested with a NBF.

  • The novel integration method with programmable high-pass filter is suggested in order to solve the problem of integration for stator flux estimation in a stator flux oriented direct vector controlled induction motor drive system. The dc offset in a pure integrator is eliminated using high-pass filter with fixed time constant, and then time constant of programmable high-pass filter is controlled with a inverter frequency for integration in a wide frequency range, considering phase lag and attenuation due to both the hardware low-pass filter and high-pass filter. The proposed method is verified with the experimental results implemented by 32-bit DSP.

  • A high speed motor has been generating a lot of attention due to its performance-more light, thin, short, compact than ordinary motors. But they have low efficiency with high frequency power source because of the iron losses which may produce too much heat as well as the copper losses occurred in the rotor windings. The Halbach array can generate the strong magnetic field systems without additional magnetic materials, therefore the iron losses can be removed. In this paper, the Halbach array is applied to the field system for the high speed motor, and three dimensional FEM is used to analyze the field of the Halbach array considering with the leakage flux. The measured values of flux density are also compared with the FEM analysis. And the magnetic characteristics of the Halbach array field system are compared with those of the conventional field systems such as slot-iron type, PM-iron type. Consequently, it is confirmed that the Halbach array field system is more suitable to the high speed motor because it has high flux density, sinusoidal flux distribution than others.

  • The magnetically levitated system technology is highly expected to contribute the new transportation system of the 21st century with its high velocity operation, better riding comforts, friendliness to environment and saving of maintenance labour. Its development has been completed in low speed and in high speed application. In 2005, the Transrapid with 430 km/h speed will go into operation between Berlin and Hamburg[1]. In the year 2000, the realization of JR-Maglev will be basically evaluated for commercial operation[2]. In korea, maglev test vehicle with magnet for levitation and single sided linear induction motor for propulsion is under test at 1 [km] test track in KIMM.[3,4] Here, a transverse flux linear motor in combination with the levitation and the guidance leads to a considerable high power density and high efficiency simultaneously. The designed and measured performance of transverse flux linear motor for maglev system revealed a great potential of system mass reduction.
